In coop my teammates diligently mark as many hostiles as possible before going in, whereas in single player I use automatic marking to progressively reveal nearby enemies. Comprehensive target marking is useful for a tactical overview but down on the ground you must contend with dozens of overlaid enemy markers visible from potentially hundreds of metres away! It makes it very difficult at a glance to determine one from another and sifting through the clutter to identify those that represent a more immediate threat is a cumbersome experience that breaks the flow of a swift and slick infiltration.
With the addition of a slider or a drop down menu in the HUD options (or even just a field accepting integers within a limited range), players could define for themselves the range at which these markers appear. The further addition of a hotkey to toggle this filter would give players the flexibility to see everything or declutter the HUD on the fly.
Great, yeah. We could also solve world hunger by eradicating humanity.Originally Posted by Hotbirt Go to original post
EDIT - Perhaps I'm being too hasty. Are you trying to be funny or have you genuinely misunderstood the problem? It's not that all those enemy markers offend my sight, the problem is the difficulty in visually sifting through them to identify the ones that are closest. The size difference between them is indistinct. The existing system could benefit from greater clarity or the outright masking of distant markers. Removing them all entirely does nothing to address the problem and just puts the player at even greater disadvantage.
