ZhanHu has finally been released for every player to use.
2 weeks have passed in total, and the problems regarding this new hero are already piling up.
Even though in my purely personal opinion ZhanHu's kit makes him the most balanced Y3 hero (maybe even a little bit mediocre) his basic feats, especially the T1 and T2, need to be tweaked somehow: either as cool down time being increased or damage reduced.
Leaving his special abilities behind, ZhanHu has a big issue regarding his hitboxes both offensively and defensively speaking:
On the defensive side, I have personally withnessed how some attacks even if they appear out of range (e.g Berserker zone attack or Conq neutral bash) can still connect with ZhanHu during a dodge as if the character hitbox didn't move in time or resulted bigger than how it should be.
ZhanHu I.-frames are also troublesome, kinda like Tiandi, meaning that they are instantly removed if you are launching any sort of attack.
Moreover his heavy-dodge attack does guarantee the enemy a light parry riposte somehow.
On the offensive side, ZhanHu attacks often fail to connect: this fact has been pointed out by many streamers and even youtubers like for example Freeze, whose video is linked here: https://youtu.be/JAaFi61o4p4
In particular his right side unblockable heavy often phases through enemies or is too high to connect with an enemy dodging becoming completely useless.
The top heavy unblockable has also some issue, for example if the enemy early-dodges backward you can see the blade passing through leaving him unscated.
Yet somehow the top heavy unblockable is able to penetrate solid objects dealing damage to enemies on the other side, for example in the case of barrels or poles.
In Freeze's video he was able to record a similar problem with his zone attack.
So many issues were found in the time it took to reach REP 2 with the character... I really wonder how was it possible to not find such problems in the testing phase of development, if it has ever been a testing phase...
I don't know if its the bugs with him but he feels really bad. If I had to use one word to describe him it would be "limited". Zone is easy to punish, side dodge is easy to punish, finishers in chain are easy to punish...heck even his lights are easy to punish. He basically has to mix up into GB often for any hope. His "superior block bash" skill doesn't seem worth the risk and timing. And that's really all there is to him. The marching fire characters seem way more deep/flexible and interesting (well minus nuxia but at least she has a truly unique mechanic). This one by comparison just feels half baked and safe development wise. On the flip he's fun to fight cause its pretty much EZ wins with any other character....i'm sure no one has mastered him yet but even still theres not a lot of options to begin with so not sure how far you can really take this character. He also looks cool so at least that...just wish he was a bit more fun to play. If anyone was playing him and not having a rough time i'd suggest they try shaolin/tiandi or kensei and they'll have a much better experience. Hopefully the bugs get fixed and hopefully that makes him better.
Yep, his zone is easily punishable and can't really be used as recovery cancel. On that note I guess the devs see that attack mostly for 4v4 scenarios (Just like LB's long arm is nearly useless in 1v1).
About his chains being punishable, it's true what you said but his chains situation is kinda like aramusha's (while being a bit better due to having unblockables): you gotta bamboozle your opponent.
