Few things I hate more in this game than "defend" missions

    Hey everyone,
Even with all the glitches, bugs, and mtx issues with this game, the thing I hate the most are any mission where I have to defend a person/thing. Particularly ones where it's "sneak in and do this thing" and then suddenly it's defend it while waves of enemies come in. It would be better with a squad, but it's still a nuisance and I hate it. Rant over. wa rego check
I spent the better part of an hour trying to do a side mission where you hack an open computer in the middle of a base, followed by 3 cars of enemies instantly rolling up on it and forcing you to fight 1v10 or lose the OBJ because they destroy it while you get a grasp on the situation.

Use mines and put them at every avenue of approach towards your objective and that will take care of alot of the bad guys for you so you have a fighting chance to defend the objective.

    The trick is:

Whenever there is a faction mission that has you hack a computer, there is always a gattling-turret vehicle parked nearby. Just hold off on hacking, look at the possible routes the enemy reinforcements can drive in, and park the vehicle as ideally as possible (near the computer). Then rehearse running from the computer to the "gunner" access side of the vehicle. Then you hack the computer, and run to the gunner access side, and get in, and now you have a Gattling gun to face the reinforcements. Usually, you'll have to fire on two fronts, but they rarely arrive on two fronts at the same time. The Gattling gun takes a second or two to down an enemy, it's not instantaneous like the .50 caliber sniper rifle.

Even if you cannot find a Gattling-turret vehicle parked nearby, the computer will be located near a road (for the reinforcements to drive in). Just ambush an enemy vehicle patrolling that road, and you'll get a Gattling vehicle. If it's a minor road, you can always go to a major road nearby, get a Gattling vehicle by killing the occupants, and drive it back to the computer.

    Cheese it!

Take a helo (missile lock version) with you to the base land near the camp. Clear the camp with the helo or get out & clear it on foot.
Ultimately you don’t want the helo destroyed while clearing the base as you want to use it once you’ve started the hack. You’ll cheese the vehicles as they approach. If you’ve cleared the base via foot go grab your helo & park as close as you can to the terminal hack. Activate the terminal then jump in & wait for the waves.
If you lose your helo while clearing the base fast travel to the nearest bivi to get another but. Be sure when you leave the bivi you click, leave now to ensure the base doesn’t re-spawn. Fly back & you’ll be able to continue clearing the base from where you left it.

    DrUNkenj4Gs (the poster above):
Once they approach, the enemy will open fire full-auto on the computer to destroy it. So you cannot leave the base to get another helicopter and come back. The computer will have been destroyed already, and mission failed.

The only hassle is clearing out the area the computer is in. Once you've done that it's easy.

Enemies always come from the same direction/area. Best way to find out is sneak in and hack the computer and try to stay alive long enough to see where enemies drive or fly in. (Also never know might turn out to be a mission without defend)

Now when you do clear the base just get your rocket launcher out and face the area that the enemies will spawn. Vehicles are an easy target to destroy. (You can even set a C4 charge at spawn point for 1st kill) Helos can be a bit tricky depending on the nearby tree foliage but shouldn't be too hard. Also lay mines strategically so they dont blow each other up in case you miss.

    Hasn't failed me yet.

Assault Class, Benelli M4, Guerilla, Feel No Pain and Cold Heart perks. Your problems are forever solved. The Benelli M4 will one shot any human target, including the heavies that take several hits from a 50cal sniper rifle. The named perks make you nigh on invincible so long as you keep shooting guys.

That is pretty much how I roll up on faction missions now. I don't even pretend to go in tactical. Walk right in the front and shoot the first guy I see in the face. Then I stack up the bodies. In Wildlands shotguns were limited in range. My longest kill shot with Benelli so far was 240m. I know that using it is really arcadey, as you basically have a shooting gallery, but hey... sometimes I just want to clear the missions.

Yes, this is why if you use my suggested method you don’t access the hack until you’ve got your helo in position, as close as possible to the terminal or have fast travelled to the nearest bivi for another one.

Defend missions aren't anywhere near as annoying as Azrael drones/Helicopters spawning on top of you every 5 minutes when you're trying to explore. Makes me just want to quit playing. I'm sick to death of having to prone camo every 5 minutes.
