    Being an efficient Gunsmith

    Community,

Been playing a few hours and not sure I get the whole weapon inventory and gunsmithing thing. Please bear with me as I describe the process and perhaps other players can correct me as it goes. I want to be effective and efficient here. I actually enjoy recreational target shooting in real life and do my own real-world gunsmithing.... so I am enjoying this aspect of Breakpoint... even if it is a "gamified" version of a real life hobby.

    A few points of clarification:
    1. In order to use a weapon you must have it in your active inventory that is shown on your "loadout" screen.
    2. You gather these weapons from fallen enemies, crates, mission rewards, purchasing in the shop, or paying Skell Credits to have them made from blueprints that I have found.
    3. My strategy is to only play with a few weapons, constantly equipping the highest level one in my inventory. I dismantle all other weapons for parts.
    4. The weapons I "keep" I am constantly trying to upgrade to Mk2 and Mk3.
    5. The only reason I have two of the same weapon in my inventory is if I have two configurations I want to swap to.... like an SMG with an ACOG for medium range and an SMG with a dot configured for close quarters.
    6. I don't want to miss an opportunity and destroy an excellent weapon that I should "keep" in order to Gunsmith it to Mk3, especially when I don't have the blueprint I don't have another way to get the weapon..

    A few other things.
    1. I haven't done much purchasing of weapons from the shop, so perhaps I am missing some key knowledge because of that.
    2. Can you even purchase a purple weapon?
    3. Can you purchase and dismantle, over and over, purple weapons in order to get High-end weapon parts I need to upgrade OTHER weapons to Mk3 ?
    4. Do enemies eventually start dropping purple weapons so I can get High-end weapon parts?
    5. Is "selling" useless gear I pick up from fallen enemies, crates, mission rewards is a great way to get Skell credits needed for weapon purchases and vehicle purchases? Seems so to me.

On sort of a side note whilst I have your attention....
I got myself into a bad situation where I ran out of ammo during a mission. Going into loadout and selecting another weapon didn't seem to give me much ammo! I got out of the situation and completed the mission... but do I have that right? When you can't get to a Bivouac and you can't collect ammo from fallen enemies... you can really get into a bad ammo situation.

That last comment on running out of ammo got me thinking.....

The original Ghost Recon had a mission "Complete M10 Vilnius in Firefight on Veteran using only N. Tunney with the Bizon 9mm and M136 kit." It was difficult to complete that challenge because you really had to manage your ammo usage. You only had 300 rounds and in those days you couldn't pick up fallen weapons. The Bizon had horrible accuracy and very weak stopping power. Great stuff in those days....

In the next game I hope the ammo will make endless. And generally remove this stupid opportunity to reload their weapons.

For starters; GRB's weapon ballistics and balancing are trash (compared to their real world counter parts). "Balanced for Game Play is the perjorative term I'm thinking of.

Anyway----I run with weapons that use three different ammo types. i.e. MP5 9mm, G28 7.62 x 51 NATO, and C-SFP (Springfield XD).45 ACP. That prevents me from using a particular ammo inventory up more quickly by using two weapons using the same ammo type. Making me less likely to run out of ammo (hasn't happened yet!).

Whatever my personal bias towards any particular weapon within a weapon class---I usually use the weapon in that class that deals the highest damage (see my first comment above). i.e. MP5 and UMP are rocking it in the subgun class; even though they are totally outclassed by the P90 and MP 7 in real life (thanks Ubi!).

    Spoiler:  Show
It is to your advantage to acquire weapon blue prints for weapons you want, or like to use. Everyone blueprint you get will make that weapon available for sale in the weapons on demand section of the store. As YOU rank/level up; store weapons in both the regular section and on demand section tend to rank up also. On demand weapons will ALWAYS be listed as regular weapons (no green, blue, purple, or yellow stripes/perks).

When you purchase them though--many will have a stripe attached to them that pretty much mirrors the color class of weapons you're picking up in the game world right then. I'm in the low 140s right now, and am getting mostly purple weapons in the on demand store. Giving me guns to cannibalize for advanced parts,

Another way to acquire the quality of parts you want to gun smith into MK2 and MK3 guns is once you've IDed facilities on the world map (I'm on PC BTW) you can put your cursor over that facilities' marker and any loot there will appear in a box. The guns will all have what color stripe they have; letting you decide whether you want to raid that facility or not.

Hope this answers what you asked. Good luck!

[*]Can you even purchase a purple weapon?
    Yes
[*]Can you purchase and dismantle, over and over, purple weapons in order to get High-end weapon parts I need to upgrade OTHER weapons to Mk3 ?
Yes, but that will cost too much credits in the end. See below.
[*]Do enemies eventually start dropping purple weapons so I can get High-end weapon parts?
Yes, and later even Elite Weapon (Yellow)
[*]Is "selling" useless gear I pick up from fallen enemies, crates, mission rewards is a great way to get Skell credits needed for weapon purchases and vehicle purchases? Seems so to me.
Not that great, its better to sell gear, the weapons you should dismantle.

I'm max level and gearscore 235 now. What I miss most of all the time is actually just "Metal Parts".

Hope you have a good time in GRB, I sure do!
