I tried finding some results about this online but have not found them anywhere. I've spent around 540 hours in Assassin's Creed: Origins, mainly because I'm obsessed with Ancient Egypt, hot sandy deserts and beautiful graphics. Honestly, my dream is to live in a sandy desert so this game really feels like home. I am replaying the game for the 4th time and this time I'm taking it extremely slowly, enjoying every single little detail and trying to play it as realistically as possible. During my strolls around Egypt I've found numerous little secrets and subtle details about the story but this very specific one baffles me. I was riding towards Giza from Khensu Nome and found a lone adze (it's a tool Ancient Egyptians used but it's mainly represented as a hand plough in the game) in the middle of nowhere. I stopped to look whether somehow some NPC got lost and dropped their tool but there was no one around, I only found some scribbles on the ground. Very important to note that this is not a hallucination, this is a physical object on the map. I tried figuring out what it is but to no avail. Is it perhaps scribbles of the Nile? I can't even tell what is up and what is down. Is it possible that this was made by the kids? Maybe the Hyena? I have no idea.

Hey there DefunctBattery,
First off, welcome to the forums!Very interesting screenshot! It does perhaps look to be some scribbles and also a combination of possible animal tracks like Locopells stated.
Very interesting though, thanks for sharing! I love coming back to the game and finding details like this.![]()
HMMM I don't think this has anything to do with animal tracks. These must have been "man-made" (and despite humans being animals, these aren't hand or footprints). No feral animal has hand-, foot-, finger- or toeprints like these. This was, as I said, also found right next to an adze which is something man-made so I do believe this has something to do with human scribbles. Those triple strokes seem to indicate some sort of markings perhaps? I'll try to find some more clues in the meantime and go exploring.
I found two more and they appear to be the same scribbles! They can be found in desert areas when you see a lone tool lying on the ground, the scribbles are always right next to it.

That's so cool! This is making me want to play through Origins again, I definitely missed this little detail while I was playing. What does the tool look like, or can it vary?Originally Posted by DefunctBattery Go to original post
I don't remember coming across these, but I may have not been looking closely enough.
I'm heading out of Khensu Nome on a slow trek to Giza. I like paying attention to all the detail, allowing the breeze to pass by and take in all the sounds. Oddly familiar to home. Of course I'll be pulling out AC:Photomode all throughout. But on that note, I have seen one indirectly as it was on someone's Photomode display on the map, it only showed once throughout my 300 hours. It was somewhere out in the lone desert around Desheret Desert I think. But I want to see one 'personally'. I found something similar in Watch Dogs 2 where they would make certain marks on a in-world map. They are done very faintly as to not garner much attention, I still have to find out where these markings lead if they do anywhere. But these that you found, certainly seem deliberate considering they're written in near an Adze. Have you found any others or any leads as to what these markings mean? Could this be part of a map.. the squiggle from the III in the middle seems to be pointing to a /\ shape. Have you tried overlaying them on a secondary map in the Map screen? The one that shows Egypt and Sinai in it's entirety without the legend, and then compare.. maybe it's a lead?
Thanks for snapping a shot of it.
I actually found around a dozen more today and what's curious is that they're all in Giza which makes me think that this has something to do with that area. People appear to be drawing those on the ground but since these are canonically "more fresh", the one I'll show below is a bit more contrasted and the lines are more distinct. I will keep looking and resize scouting areas to see if the scribbles fit any smaller part of the map. But yeah, just as OzKing333 said, maybe it's not the right side of the Nile but Sinai. I will keep my eyes peeled but it'll take some time since I'm replaying the game and taking it really slowly.
Here's that one of many screenshots ft. the culprit who was drawing it!! I scared him with my whistling and then he got mad at me but I still did not manage to figure out what this means, they didn't want to tell me anything :steaming emoji:
And ironically enough, among 900+ screenshots, I don't think I have one that features an Adze, or at least not up close so you can see it clearly. I'll find one tomorrow!

I am a FOOL. I took a screenshot of one yesterday but forgot to post it here. Anyway, this is an Adze and while you can find them all over the place since NPCs use them quite a lot, especially in fields and in Letopolis specifically (because of all the sand), when you find a lone one, they seem to indicate that this specific message is somewhere nearby. Usually, the scribbles are right next to it but in Giza, there appear to be small camps near it where NPCs are drawing that in the sand.
Something I've been thinking about is that triangular icon on the map. It sort of looks like it indicates Khufu's Pyramid, including the metal tip but something else that caught my eye is the mountain right across and the rising sun in the morning. But, if that's true, what exactly does the map indicate? We know we can't go far to the right so what do we do with all the other icons? I'll try to find the hieroglyphs on this ( also, sadly, not my screenshot but you see what I mean when I say it looks a lot like the mountain)

Hmm you said it might be Sinai.. I haven't finished the game yet to get the DLC's (I'm taking it slow too... suuuuper slow lol, I am looking at every nook and cranny).
But I think one of the DLC's expands that region?
Oh and I went out that day.. I found holes everywhere like those spiders that dig sand traps, or the alien from the movie Enemy Mine. I saw Adze's and so many scorpions throughout a huge sandstorm that lasted forever. But I didn't find those markings.. I guess I gotta try a bit closer to Giza as rode around maybe 1000m outside in the desert. But because of it being such a long storm I went by on camel quickly from the edge of Isolated Desert -> Iment Nome and then Khensu Nome. Hopefully when I try again it'll be a bit clearer that day
BTW @DefunctBattery, if you like taking pics you should come join our AC Photomode on Discord! It's Memento Gallery
@Oz-King OH I see. Yeah, those scribbles are actually pretty hard to find on their own in the desert because the Adze doesn't appear until you're around 100 meters away from it. However, go to the ruins to the east from Khufu's Pyramid (like, they're right below it), several of those scribbles should be there. The two places in Giza where bandits attack civilians is where those scribbles are in larger quantities.
Also, DARN I missed the invite, I think it expired! I've been sick for the past 6 days and I couldn't even sit, came too late to see this. I'd honestly love to join that server, taking screenshots is honestly so much fun for me! Thanks :^)
