Hello all,
after having played the open beta, I would like to offer my feedback. I will often refer to Wildlands, so please bear with me.
TL;DR: I had fun, but a lot of things felt off/unpolished or took the flow out of the game.
The Good:
- I liked the darker screen edges when going into bush cover
- prone camo is a very neat feature
- impact of low level gear is not severe and should have even less of an impact
- firefights overall feel good and stealth is decent (both could use some more advanced AI, but I am sure you will get to that)
- the overall feeling once out in the wild was nice and taking on strongholds etc. felt good, but everything around it (mission start/end, hub) felt like a chore or seriously stopped the flow of the game.
The Bad:
- Buff Duration can not be disabled in HUD Options (afaik) and was very intrusive
- not being able to switch the shoulder view while in cover should be a feature (like Wildlands)
- peeking out of cover does not feel consistent (sometimes you aim straight at your cover, while you should be aiming around it if given the tiny arrow)
- Character movement feels wonky (best way I can describe it) and is too cranky/not fluent like Wildlands
- ducking in cover was very hit and miss (no easy connecting most of the times close up, while forcing you into cover other times from a somewhat far distance)
- having little video clips to accompany a new mission was a great way to create a narrative in Wildlands, scripted dialogue with certain NPC just takes a lot of the flow and freedom away, to watch the clips whenever you want or when it suits your flow (I'd usually play them when I was taking a few sips of tea or munching a cookie and enjoy the short clips in the meanwhile)
- the radial menu has too few items and being able to change them in the loadout screen while paused just stops the flow of combat and feels annoying (since you are not punished for not having the right item in your quick access radial menu, because you can simply pause and change it)
- weapons get very dirty very quick and often the clothes are somewhat clean while the gun is covered in mud from top to bottom
- camera is too close and should be offset a bit to the top (like Wildlands), FOV changes are not a solution because they still keep your character centered
- overall menu navigation was too layered and had too much depth (pinning/unpinning was very unintuitive), I do not see the need for 3 pins at the same time and simply activating one mission at a time like in Wildlands seems to be a good way in my opinion
- enemies not dropping their weapons is a flaw in my eyes
- ammo and explosives pickup sparkling in bright colors/doing some sort of pop sound feels terribly out of place
The Ugly:
- graphics were, even on Ultra, very washed out and, while I could maintain solid fps, did feel way off what I was expecting
- driving (bike/car) was terrible in my opinion and I'd at least expected the way it was in Wildlands
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. I am looking forward to seeing this game progress.
Greetings
J.
