Feedback to Make the Perfect Just Dance game

I have a few ideas for the perfect Just Dance game and I hope you use them for future installments of the game. Please use this feedback for JD2021, I'm doing this for you guy's honor:

    1. Amp up the tracking and create choreos with that in mind. I say this because it feels satisfying and provides more opportunies to boost the player's score while still making them work harder for the high score.

    2. Provide variety in Gold Move quantity. Having each routine fall into a specific range and medium makes it feel forced and/or lazy, so the time should be taken to find places in the routine where they should be (making sure it's consistent; if one instance of a move is to be a Gold Move, all of them should be, so they should also be careful about picking moves that are used often). Planning ahead before a routine is recorded will help with this. 1-6 should always be the range. Not 2-4, not 1-3, not 4-6.

    3. Be selective with what songs are chosen; including chart toppers is inevitable and, for the sake of publicity, shouldn't be avoided, but songs should be chosen based on their choreo and theme potential, not just their popularity or their novelty as a left-field decision. Engaging the audience is a huge part of how a routine gains traction, so if it's something that's better to just listen to than to get up and dance to, you're doing something wrong.

    4. Don't be afraid to add some unique, high-intensity choreos. I noticed that in recent years, they seem rather hesitant to make their routines fast-paced, and tend to slow down the dancing even for a fast or rhythm-heavy song. Some should stay slow and simple (especially if that's what the specific song calls for), after all a variety in difficulty is what any game needs; easy for the entry-level players to gain their barings, hard and powerful for those that feel like testing their tenacity and endurance. Some people have told me that this is what Extremes are for, but first off, many of them go too far, being too chaotic and exhausting for their own good and existing just for the sake of challenge, and second off, even for the ones that hit the right sweetspot of hard but manageable, that's still 1 or 2 routines, when I feel about a third of the game should be like this.

    5. Take a different approach with alternates. Far, far too many of alternate routines in recent games throw bizarre, quietly, wacky themes at the wall to see what sticks. What an alternate should be (besides Extremes and Sweats, which should still exist) is a simple reimagining of what the classic could have been and you can add as many as you want them to have. Good examples of this are Call Me Maybe, Another One Bites The Dust, Mi Mi Mi, A Little Party Never Killed Nobody, Don't Stop Me Now, Radical alternates, or alts like in Just Dance 2014. Definitely don't do what All About That Bass, Automaton, Where Are You Now, and Born This Way did.

    6. As for modes though, Kids Mode just doesn't work and according to the fandom, it needs to be removed from future installments. It's just a waste of time, data, money, and effort all for a demographic that people aren't not totally convinced the franchise even has. The extra mode should consist of what the fandom wants like a routine based on Extreme or Sweat/Fitness dances with more human coaches.

    7. Any extra mode they could add from there shouldn't be forced for the sake of extra content. They need to have something non-intrusive and expansive enough to warrant the effort. I would prefer something that alters the way you play existing routines, like a battle mode system on top of a regular classic, a Gold Rush mode where a routine gets a lot of gold moves and you get scored based on how you land them, or something to that effect.

    8. The World Dance Floor is a good idea, but it's lacking a battle royale mode. Like Tetris 99. Imagine the Dance Battles we used to have, but it's with a regular routine and it involves 100 different people. You keep cycling through songs until one player remains. This one was kind of a joke, but it also wasn't at the same time.

    9. Party Master mode was a cool idea, but they would have to do some major tweaking to it to make it work better. I've tried it a few times, and every time it was a disaster. Thing is, I wouldn't even know where to begin providing suggestions. I can't even go into detail as to why I disliked them.

    10. There should be no Ubisoft exclusive songs because it feels like filler and is a waste of money and we want artists like Rihanna, Cascada, etc. back in the game.

    11. Outfits in the game should match the song's theme. Big examples like God Is A Woman's costume just looks too much like a spoon or strainer. I know after many people pointing out for me that it is meant to be a femle gender sign ♀, but it doesn't work on so many levels. There honestly should be less animal coaches to make unless it is absolutely needed because there are too many animal coaches and making more is just a waste. While you need to make outfits unique, it needs to match the theme of the song.

In short, I think Just Dance's main problem is that they are pandering to much to the kids and they are holding back on what they really want to do and you shouldn't because you need to be aware of what you are doing. Pander a lot more to the higher demographic(i.e. Teens and adults) and put in your most absolutely passion, love, heart, and effort iinto all the routines like in past games, really know what you guys are really doing. Don't be afraid to be intense and hardcore like with JD4 to JD2015. I promise it will bring back the love that many people have for the series again. Thank you for listening.

As much as I love the extremes, I think you may be right. It was challenging for me to stay fluent in all 6 extremes in 2020. Every time I got a little rusty, it took a lot of extra prep time before I felt comfortable just to visit the WDF.

On the other side, there are very few non-extremes where it was rather challenging to hit 13,000. In years past, at least for me there were more challenging non-extremes each year. Choreo-wise, there must be something in-between the main forty dances and the extremes. Maybe not quite as much repetition as the easy dances, but not as carried away as the extremes. This would offer challenge to players who are mastering the main forty quickly, yet find the extremes to be too much.
    5. Take a different approach with alternates. Far, far too many of alternate routines in recent games throw bizarre, quietly, wacky themes at the wall to see what sticks. Great examples! (Though I'm a fan of the concept behind the Nerd version of Born This Way.)

I've been going through the Unlimited catalog recently, challenging myself to see if I can hit megastars on every song using Kinect. There are some difficult (at least for me) songs in this range, especially 2014. I imagine a customer who buys JD 2016 or later, who is new to Just Dance, who starts exploring the Unlimited catalog with Xbox Kinect. The scoring for some of these dances, especially in 2014, could come as quite a shock.

I have a suggestion for the Just Dance team, who indubitably wants new dancers to enjoy their Unlimited subscriptions (and not get frustrated that it's suddenly much easier to hit X's and OK's compared to the newer dances). Just imagine if there were an option, at least for Kinect: Score the 2014 dances with Original Scoring or Modified Scoring. What I have in mind really wouldn't affect scores in the high 12's or 13's. Make it just as hard to hit Perfect or Super as it already is. But in the case of some of those X's or OK's, maybe soften it up a touch to be a little more consistent with the modern scoring, for a new Modified Scoring option. When it gives an X or OK, a penalty is surely deserved, but I'm just thinking, the average dancer who suddenly discovers 2014 in Unlimited, would find the scoring a bit frustrating. So if it just made it a little easier to hit Good instead of X or OK (just talking about some of the 2014 dances), it would make the experience less frustrating for some dancers. Hitting 20 Good's instead of 20 X's or OK's isn't going to turn an 11,000 into a 13,000 of course (and it will still be challenging to hit Super and Perfect), it just might seem a bit less frustrating (due to seeming inconsistency with the way the newer songs seem to be scored). If you make the scoring an option (Original or Modified) for 2014 songs in Unlimited, players who love it the way it is could pick Original (in general, this game needs more options). I'm not sure if remote/phone dancing is affected by 2014, or PS4 camera. But there definitely seems to be a marked difference with Kinect in 2014. I'm way better at the 2014 dances than when I first discovered them a few years ago, but even I get a little frustrated in the heat of the moment at times with these dances. It is rewarding to finally hit a good score on these dances though.

The 2014 scoring with Kinect was probably appropriate for advanced players who devoted an entire season toward mastering Just Dance. But if a player just discovers the 2014 dances in Unlimited using Kinect, and doesn't plan to dance to most of the songs that many times, it's a bit of a different situation. Some of these songs are favorite songs, and the JD team wants Unlimited to appeal to new players (as well as veterans). The scoring discrepancy with 2014 for Kinect may be worth a little consideration. My suggestion aims to address the frustrating side for new players, while hopefully not messing it up with experienced pros (even with a Modified Scoring mode as I've suggested, since it would still be just as difficult to hit Super or Perfect, it would scarcely impact the higher scores).

I love Just Dance, and for me, 2020 looks amazing. I can't wait. By the way, on the JD community forum, I see an offer to buy JD 2019 at the top of the page. Maybe it's about time to change that to advertise 2020 (and there is an option to preorder it, which I did already, so why not advertise this instead of 2019?).

Two things I would like to see are (1) more options and (2) customization.

There could be optional scoring systems to meet the needs of different dancers (like a more challenging system for pros, a softer tracking and scoring system for newbies; there is room for variety). A setting like the WDF would probably require consistent scoring, but otherwise, this is an opportunity to cater to individuals. This could extend to Kids Mode. The new "scores" for Kids Mode I suppose are intended to make it seem less frustrating, but it's harder for kids to see which moves they can improve on. Some kids and parents using this mode might appreciate the option to choose the new or old scoring system for Kids Mode.

Some people like more Gold Moves, some like fewer, some like variety, some like the way they are currently scored, some might like them to show Good/Super/Perfect rather than a seeming all or nothing. So here is another place to add an option. It wouldn't be a viable option for a tournament or the WDF or Dancer of the Week, but for other uses, why not let this be adjustable to some extent?

It would be nice if we could customize the menu more. Especially with Unlimited having 400+ songs, more sorting and customization options would really be helpful. I wish I could press a button and instantly see a list of dances that I haven't attempted (on the specific console and mode of game play that I happen to be using at the time). I wish I could sort the dances by score (low to high or high to low), as sometimes I'm trying to hunt down my weaker dances and improve them. How about sorting the dances based on when they were added to Unlimited, so we could quickly find the latest additions? The more options, the more likely people will find things that they appreciate, and the more customization available, the more they feel that they have made game their own.

Maybe the menu could have different color schemes, for example. Maybe some dances could have optional backgrounds or effects. There is a lot of room for creativity here. Right now, the main options are to turn pictos and lyrics on/off, or to pick an avatar and title, or customize a playlist.

It seems like in 2017 there were menu themes, perhaps for Halloween and Christmas, but these just came, they weren't options. Customizable menus, that would be neat.

How about one dance that you can customize, choosing from different available moves to put your own unique choreography together (maybe even customize the outfit and colors of the coach and background)? This would make for some interesting videos.

But however they do it, in the end, all that matters is that we Just Dance. :-)

Anything to change song list or routine wise to make the the perfect Just Dance game like JD4 through JD2015
Well, I absolutely love Just Dance 2015. The choreography challenged me in a variety of ways, yet was not too crazy (except for a couple of extremes).

In 2018 and 2019, I felt like some of the dances are introducing new kinds of moves that aren't as comfortable to make. In 2015, most of the moves were comfortable enough that I could dance to those songs over repeatedly. In 2018 and 2019, some of the dances seem to wear on my knees more. Fight Club and Swish Swish look very cool, but aren't that comfortable to do very often. I enjoy Automaton, but it also is uncomfortable, especially the alternate version. Another One Bites the Dust (quartet) and Mi Mi Mi have a lop of rapid leg turns. I would like the dances to be more comfortable so that my body will be more durable (and let me enjoy the game for a longer period of time).

For example, the Summer Fitness dance of 2015 provides a good workout, and most of the motions are smooth. It starts out with simple stretches that match the beat of the song (and in such a way that it took me a little practice to get the hang of it). Even the bends were more natural (whereas the bends of Another One Bites the Dust Helicopter version and John Wayne Extreme seemed less natural and comfortable). In 2017, September Aerobic version also put more pressure on the back. I like that Summer Fitness has a little change of pace, doesn't seem as much nonstop physical (like Footloose, Sayonara, and Finesse Extreme).

The "fun" and even "silly" dances of 2015 with personality even appealed to me more. I enjoyed the Campfire version of What Does the Fox Say and even the unlikely love story shown in Only You. Those seemed like dances, they were comfortable, the Campfire dance was fun. Some of the more recent ones, like Dharma alternate, Water Me alternate, All About that Bass alternate, don't seem as much like "dancing." They are creative, I'll give 'em that. (To be fair, I must admit that 2015 included Tetris.)

2015 had several "cool" dances, which felt good to dance along to. Although I really loved the song Walk Like an Egyptian, I much prefer the concept and how it was carried out in Dark Horse (but 2019's OMG Extreme is way up there, too). I loved Black Widow (even though I had a hard time with it with Wii U) and Get Low, but most of the 2015 dances really appealed to me. In 2017, Worth It looks pretty cool, but it wears on my knees more noticeably if I do it a few times in a row.

But I found several dances in 2016 thru 2019 that I love, like Cool for the Summer, Cheap Thrills (which I now appreciate much more than I once did, now that I understand it much better), Circus Extreme (perhaps my favorite of all), Lean On (though I got frustrated with the quartet when I was using Wii U), New World, OMG, Bang Bang Bang Extreme (I actually like quite a few from 2019).

What are your favorite songs to dance to from JD4 thru JD2015?

Wow there are just to many to choose from first off Rock 'n' Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain) is one of my favs because it was complex yet not too hard. It felt like a nice challenge, and many effects they added made it feel powerful similar to Where Have You Been and I wish the Just Dance series went back to making powerful routines that makes you feel powerful and strong like Rock 'n' Roll, Where Have You Been, Applause, She-Wolf, Get Low and many other routines from JD4 and JD2014. I wish they made powerful, complex, unique, and effective dances with 1,000 times amount of love, soul, and thought as JD3 through JD2014. I think the song next year should be comprised of more old songs with unique choreos and more requested songs by the fans. Songs should be chosen by their choreos and theme potential. Don't let pandering to kids get in the way of what you guys want for the dance because kids are less of your concerns, the adults are the biggest factor you have to pander too. I hope this advice helps the team. Thank You

Yeah its just that I wish that the Just Dance series was kind of similar to routines of JD3 through JD2015 with routines that stood out from the crowd as something fantastic, complex, unique, and energetic with the same amount of love and energy put into them with a song list that doesn't focus too much on whats popular but chosen based on theme potential and unique and energetic moves and I, including many fans, kind of miss that.
