    [Suggestion] Active pause

I know it has been requested so many times and I still do not understand why devs refuse to add it.

Anno 1800 is one the most complex installment in the series, with so many features and stuff happening at the same time. And yet we're not given an option to deal with those in our own pace. I'm not good at multitasking and the current gameplay is really taxing for me. Right now I'm barely able to play for longer than 30 minutes. Whenever I start doing something I have to go resolve some crisis elsewhere. Setting up new expedition? Oh, here's a fire and there my ship is under attack. Building up a new production chain on one of the islands? Oh, riots on another island and cease-fire with the pirates expires. And then all the stuff that, although can wait a bit, still has to be done - setting newspaper, dealing with expedition events, dealing with trade route problems or goods shortages, cleaning after fire etc. When all those are covered there's little time for me to do anything else before something else happens. In the end I just quit the game tired.

Sure I can reduce difficulty (it's pretty low already) or disable some random events, but the thing is - I want them to be in the game, I want to deal with them. Just give me the time to do it. Just let me play the game in a way which is comfortable for me.

    Please

I was so excited for this game. Was ready to spend hundreds of hours playing it, like the other ANNO games. Pre-purchased the game, etc, and just couldn't believe there wasnt any pause button. Plus, when you have story items up on the screen, or trying to read your newspaper, the game just keeps going... so I quit playing, and decided I would come back a few months later when the devs realized what a silly mistake they had made.

And to my surprise, I come back today, fire up a new game, ready to dive in and enjoy a game at my own pace... and yep, still not fixed. Trying to enjoy the game that they built, but can't because stuff is going on continuously while trying to do so.

It's just amazing this is still a feature. Like the OP said, there are minor ways around this, but its not the point. Some (perhaps many) of us just like the old PAUSE feature. Doesnt make us any worse gamers. We just like it. For it to not be included is just leaves me mouthbreathing.

Okay, I'm curious as to what other Anno games you have played. I've played 2 of them, and neither one had active pause. So I cannot believe that you "just couldn't believe" there is no active pause. In fact, just to check on the Anno game's I haven't played, I did a quick Google search by simply typing in "does any Anno games have active pause." The very first line that showed up was "No earlier Anno had an active pause." So I'm going to call you out on your lie here. It's obvious that you have never played an Anno game in your life.

And you all can call me the bearer of bad news, devils advocate, whatever you like, but Anno doesn't have active pause for very very very good reasons. Maybe there is a mod out there for you if it's what you'd like, but this game will not have active pause. I'd go into more detail, but the info is already out there.

It is true that no other game in the ANNO series has had Active pause. However, many other games of a similar nature do have it, and it wouldn't surprise me if that is what Mastada2006 meant.
Earlier games in the ANNO series did have a slow speed mode, which is gone from ANNO 1800. Also, ANNO 1800 has simultaneous demands that weren't in earlier versions, such as expeditions and the newspaper. It also has the new feature of Blueprinting. Therefore, it is not a simple case of not needing it before; this game is more demanding. People asked for it in earlier versions, but the devs never responded.
To those who don't want it, the solution is simple. Don't use it.
If it's difficult to engineer, then let's have a slow speed (say 1/2 or 1/4) and a very slow speed (say 1/8 or 1/16).
Please stop ****ging people off for wanting to play the game differently to the way you want to.

You are probably right. I have played all the Anno games since 1404 and... I cannot recall if there was a pause option or not. Simply because I didn't need it back then.
But Anno 1800 is more complex and rich than those previous games (which is great!), and now I feel that I need this option to play comfortably.

    The info is already where?

    Good one!

I don’t really see the point for argument ‘instead of complaining - learn!’.

In the first place it’s a simplified virtual simulator of a real life’s event - city building. In real life it takes years and decades to develop something - which here in the game is shortenrd into couple of hours. Also in real life there is not just one person taking care of everything at once, there is whole bunch of specialists!

It supposed to be about joy and excited experience to play this simulator! Sadly it’s limitting certain percentage of users because of annoying fact the game is forcing them to play it in a rush.

I am a big Starcraft 2 fan - that’s a game which is super multi-task demanding. And for a good reason it is like that. It’s a dynamic action game focused on elimination of opponent.

Anno on the other hand should be more calm intelectual stuff when you sit down with a hot cup of coffee in a cozy Viennese cafeteria, open your favorite newspaper and have your peacful time to think about events which are happening, and - how possibly you can adapt to them or how to plan your feature.

It’s environment should drag you back in time to the brink of industrial revolution. To the age when everything was 20 times slower. To bring you the taste of new horizons and freshness of carefully crafted goods.

I would say today’s real life is already demanding enough for learning. I see games to be perfect tools for recteation. To relax our minds and bring some joy and rest into our rushing days...

PS: if you find the game more exciting to be played in a hurry - go for it! Just leave some space also for those who prefer to make their decissions in a more smooth way. We are humans, individuals, with different qualities and approaches. Don’t limit the challenges of the game, challenge it’s limits.

Yes, +1 to active pause/Very Slow speed
I really like looking at the details and "losing" time admiring and studying what I build, change, move, find, operate, the production chains, and so on...

At least a Very Slow game speed option is requiered.

if someone doesn't like it, he could easily ignore it.

My friends, the question periodically revived, even with a survey ..
but it seems that UBISOFT doesn't listen to us ...

I also would love an active pause.
Sure, it can be a design choice not to add one, but in my opinion you are not really adhering to rest of your own game design.

As mentioned before, this is not RTS like Starcraft. This game is about careful planning of building on limited island space, optimizing supply, switching around supply routes to meet all the needs, etc. That takes brain power, in other words: focus. But then in the meantime you have to either do quest and keep an eye on diplomacy score if you go that route, or combat otherwise. You have expeditions, newspapers, hey do I still have enough oil?, there's a world fair needing supplies and citizen quests and npc quests (yes they are often voluntary, but depending on your game you might need them for items/money), and that in 4 different sessions.

Demanding that the player does all that in real time is a huge task and, in my opinion, does not fit the kind of game it is. I have also played 200 hours of Anno 1404 and although there times I would have liked it, I did not need it nearly as much as in 1800.

I do love all the new features though! I would not want to miss them. We just need a way to focus on the game when needed.
