I really feel like this game has lost its sense of wartime feel, I don't know if ubi is still working to change the FW concept but here are a few ideas I have.
Loyalty Incentives
I really feel like each faction should have its own reward system for players that have remained in that faction for a very long time. Part of the reason why faction war seems so one sided is because people flock to the vikings because they know theyre going to win. There is literally no reason to stay in your current faction if 9 times out of 10 youre going to lose. Faction specific armor, weapons, effects, and executions would help prevent this type of thing. Imagine if you're an orochi main, and the highly requested Tozen Armor set is only attainable if you are with the samurai faction?? I personally know too many orochi mains (including myself) that would give up 1,000 scavenge crates for this alone. It would allow ubi a new way to present content to the players because of the grind. Now you would think "well now since he/she has that armor, they'll just go back". Well yes, that is possible, which is why i think you should lose all progress made while you were in that faction everytime you leave. And only allow switching outside of the campaign times. But back to the topic, there is already armor in the game from the campaign that is highly requested, this is and excellent way to introduce those items while simultaneously expanding For Honors lore and story. By doing this, you make it so the main reward isn't just winning the battle, but also remaining loyal and continuing to fight for your chosen side.
A New Ranking System Within the Factions
This ties into what i said earlier about loyalty to your faction. I think that there should be a ranking system with unique titles for each faction. Like for the Samurai the highest rank would be a Shogun or Emperor. And with each new rank or "title", there are benefits to further help you and your faction mates win the war. Lets say that your in a dominion match, and an Shogun ranked kensei is on your team, because of his rank he gives a +10% damage resistance to everyone around him within a certain vicinity. Now this may seem like and unfair advantage if the enemy team doesn't have anyone on their side of equal status or rank, but that is what will make it raw and give the semblance of a true war. War isn't always fair and nice or even, by doing something like this, you guys could bring back some of that ruthlessness you lost so long ago. Also while since the buff is only active while you are alive on the field, the enemy team will prioritize killing you first. And the rank and reward system should only apply to the character you're playing, if I have an Shogun ranked Kensei, I cant pick my rep 2 shugoki and have that same rank just to use him in fours. If you want those special rewards and rank for that character, then you have to play that character. Now obviously you cant have this in your average dominion match, this is why i suggest a faction war section on the map. A section where there are 2 to 3 game modes, Breach, Dominion and Brawls. And in these game modes you can only pick characters of the faction that you are in. So if you don't feel like participating in the war, you can simply play the regular dominion and breach or other game modes. Now, considering the small chance that you have 4 shogun on your team, make it so only one person buff can be active at a time, this will eliminate overstacking. Now you could also have a competition inside the faction war by saying whoever has the most pints for the shogun rank gets x amount of steel, or xp etc at the end of the war.
I know someof these ideas are outlandish but I just wanted to bring up an old topic again, because I really wished they would reinvent the FW in some way. Id love to hear any ideas you guys may have.
Just going to throw a thread in here because i had a similar idea. Perhaps they can be combined?
How to revive the Faction War
Hello All, It's been quite a while since I have been around, but I have recently started playing the game again and have come up with a pretty good system for the faction war, IMO. It's going to be quite the read length wise as I try to explain everything. We will start with the basics.
Rule 1: In order to keep the faction war honest and give importance to roles and understandings of the game, all instances of faction war related gains can only be acquired by playing with the faction you are aligned with. An exception to be made with the wu-lin as they have no pull in the current war system. Every faction will thus be able to pull from them or members of their own faction until such a time as they are represented.
(Alternate Rule 1) Traitor Clause : One could choose the alternative to playing with said faction by only choosing 1 specific character to represent them among any of the factions (except Wu-lin) and only gain faction rewards when using that specific character only, but with a reduction to rewards given out. 30% to be exact. Said character will stay as their primary chosen until the faction war comes to a close. Perhaps by use of steel one could change their choice, but that's up in the air.
Reasoning to Rule 1: This would make players dedicate themselves to just 1 character as far as faction war goes or 1 faction (except wu-lin) and make earning soldiers and rewards actually meaningful. A player could still participate in every game mode with any character, but would only gain faction progress and rewards if they were using the correct/chosen character(s).
Gaining Reknown: Earning Soldiers and other rewards will be based on a new system implemented called Reknown. Not similar to the in battle reknown. This will dictate a players own gains in the faction war as well as how much they boost their faction by participating in any game mode. I will provide some examples.
Reknown Example 1: The numbers used are not definite but serve as an understanding point.
-Reknown level 1: You earn: 100 soldiers for every duel you complete. 200 soldiers for every brawl. 300 soldiers for a deathmatch. 500 soldiers for a dominion. 1500 soldiers for a breach.
-Reknown level 2: You earn 25% more
-Reknown level 3: You earn 35% more...etc...etc...
Increasing Reknown: Increasing your reknown level will be based off of in battle performance achievements. There will be several achievments per each game mode and a max level being attainable if you were to max achievements across each game mode. For example if you maxed dominion achievements you might only reach reknown level 3. But if you maxed dominion, duel, and breach achievements you would be reknown level 9. This would give relevance to playing each game mode and being as effective as possible across all of them until you reach max level and can then settle out in your preferred game mode of choice. This would bring honor to you and your faction and a sense of achievement in helping out the war effort on all fronts not just one.
Furthermore, based on your personal reknown level you will get a payout at the end of the faction war regardless of if you were on the winning team or not. This payout will be substantially greater than the faction win depending on your personal reknown level and reinforce your value as a player and how effective you were regardless of the team or matchups you may have encountered.
An example of some of these achievements will be: Capture 100 points in dominion. Kill 1000 enemies in dominion. Perform 50 parries in dominion.....etc...etc...etc. These could tick up to capture 500 points....etc...etc....until a maximum is reached.
So in conclusion, I guess it wasn't too long after all, by increasing your own personal skill and achievements across all game modes, you would be a much more effective force to your faction. You would see the result of your efforts and know just how much you are contributing to the effort and get a sense of pride knowing you did it with your chosen faction/character. This would also improve prescense in the least played game modes slightly and should give people something to strive for each faction war. The personal payout being the biggest factor, one could represent their faction of choice and still feel rewarded for their hardwork and not have to abandon principles just to be the faction victor.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
