The meat or substance in the pan could have been Spam or any other meat substance and didn’t necessarily have to be, “raw.” Heck it could have been that chunk of bacon that come in the pork and beans.
They just needed something to simulate the Ghost taking in sustenance. I haven’t been issued a field kit since probably the 1990s. Why the developers didn’t go with the dry ration I haven’t a clue?
I guess because each individual service member has their own style of breaking down their dry rations and they didn’t feel they could accurately reflect that selection. The Ghost Recon series since trying to go down the road to telling stories has missed a few things.
Like in Wildlands when you swim into the grotto to weed out the baddies and they talk about not wanting to know how long it will take for their socks to dry. While stationed at FT Campbell I was shocked at how many guys don’t wear socks at all with their boots. They were equally as shocked that I pull the come with boots inserts and do not put any insert in my boots and never have.
None of us take our boots off until we are at End-Ex or the end of a mission (day not days). So you cannot assume the meat or substance in the pan is anything that is going to make you ill.
As stated our team docs do wonderful jobs caring for us even if it means the pills or shots they give us will lead us down the road eventually to failing kidneys (We are talking retirement here) broken backs, destroyed shoulders, internal organ damage. Or, and I cannot stress this enough. Psychological issues that will be crippling for decades to come.
One of my best Senior Bravos was put back on stateside duty and he immediately hopped a bird and before anyone knew it he had skipped through the Philippines and back into his AO and has been there on and off since.
A lot of guys try to stop getting promoted because they owe Uncle Sam teaching time at Bragg or they have to stop doing their specialty and remember some of these guys are pulling double duty as there are never enough Foxes out their because they are worth their weight in gold in the civilian sector or Bravos get injured burned out or promoted and rotations change as well.
The ration thing isn’t an issue. It is a personal preference for you and maybe a select group of people who don’t like to see dripping food eaten with dirty hands. We don’t carry a lot of Purell sorry.
Glasses, yeah eyes aren’t the first thing to go. After 27 years I have a broken back they can’t operate on without crippling me. 2 tore up shoulders, one already has had surgery, destroyed kidneys from the meds, destroyed liver (Not from drinking, who knew?) a lot of internal organ damage, 8 traumatic brain injuries, which caused my eyes to change shape and now I wear glasses, nerve damage down both sides but the left is a hoot as doctors like to pull hairs and stick things in the arm to test if I can feel it.
Deviated septum about 7 times, PTSD (I don’t believe them) Anxiety, (Whatever) syrinx, my entire spine has micro fractures in it. My skull catches on my c spine and pops when I nod which makes my wife about pass out it is hilarious.
Okay so to close this out.
I have played Clancy before I joined and while I was in when I had time and I use it as an escape. Their choice for ration makes little to no sense. However it is far from the game’s biggest problem.
Serving from 1986 to 2016 you see some wild things. You don’t have to eat in bivouac, it gives you a bonus sure… But you’re going to go through a lot more in life that is worse.
Look, first I thank you for your service and I hope the US takes care of your issues. Second, this is a game and there is no reason for the cut scene to be so graphic, Also, please note that nowhere on Aurora was prepared food available except at the Homesteaders. Lastly I clearly remember shooting animals and taking protein from them, including wild pig. Nowhere in any of these posts was eating raw pig addressed but we all universally know that to be a bad idea. What I am advocating is a simple change to the graphic to either show the eating of prepared food or cooking the obviously raw food prior to eating it as the current graphic of shaking and eating then flinging off the "juice" clearly isn't smart.
Regarding problems with Breakpoint, there are many, I picked this one because it was easy to address for the programmers and the players. Obviously some of us are ok to disregard the scene but candidly correcting it is an easy change. Also players should be able to buy packaged food from the homesteaders. As I recall the American Indians had ways of preserving food for long duration trips that the homesteaders should be able to use. Salt preservation, drying, cooking, and many more so the discussion should remain high brow and not include boasting of the stupid things we all did when we were young and in service of our countries. If you have the time, take a look at human pathogens and ask if its really a good idea to invite them into your gut.
