    The Swarm

Not sure how many peeps have encountered "The Swarm"...
If you have you know its an insta-kill.
Don't bother running or even hiding it will find you and it will kill you.

Tried to out run "The Swarm", Nope!
-Was in a buggy, got me in seconds.
-Was in a helicopter, got me in seconds.
    - Bike, got me in seconds

Tried to hide from "The Swarm", Nope!
-Layed down in the brush, dead in seconds
-as soon as the yellow stripe came up on my screen saying "incoming swarm" I ran into an enemy base and tried to hide inside a building, nope, dead in seconds.

So bottom line is, if you see that yellow stripe come up on your screen that says "incoming swarm", just stop and let it take you because everything else is a waste of time.

... or is there a way to hide from or defeat "The Swarm"?

I'm hoping its a really really bad beta mechanic to keep you from going into certain areas. But yeah.. was 3000 ft in a helo doing about 150 mph and it overtook me. Didn't even have the option to bail. No warning it was coming.

Jumping on a trail bike worked for me a couple of times. It gets moving fast and you can whip through more areas, forget the roads. Can't go back in that direction though, it becomes like swarm area for a bit. Seemed like they have a border and once you get past it, you're safe.

It's just a means of keeping you within the play area. Some games have a countdown timer to return to the mission area, Breakpoint has a killer drone swarm. The problem is when you go out of the play area in a fast speedboat, there isn't enough time to turn the boat around to return to the play area before the drones nuke you.

The Swarm is the "nice" way Ubisoft chose to keep us playing within specific - and invisible - borders of Auroa.
If you go beyond, you get toasted in few seconds.
BUT, if you are fast enough you can step back and avoid the swarm. It happened to me when playing in co-op, I was on a boat when I noticed the warning message, so I quickly changed direction returning from where I came from. And no swarm ever showed up there.

Wildlands beta that was also about a month before release had that countdown timer if you enter zones not meant for the beta.

That swarm will be part of the game as we see in the lighthouse main mission, there is an island on the eastern part of the map that is cover with clouds probably the swarm will deny us exploration there until specific point of main story.

I do hope the the big main island won't have the swarm in full game though, high gear level enemies are a bad gate against exploration as it is.
