First I wanted to thank Ubisoft and the staff for the chance to try the game and all the opportune feedback and responses to my questions and problems reported.
So this is the feedback I owed and wanted to share. First I would like to tell you about my rig. This is a refurbished, third-handed ASUS ROG G75VX 17-Inch Gaming Laptop [OLD VERSION].
Like, a friend got it refurbished and sold her to me after he used it a good long while.
Specs:
Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor
8 GB DDR3
1024 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
17.3-Inch Screen, NV GTX670MX w/ 3GB GDDR5
Windows 10
OTT:
So after being selected for the OTT I strapped in and downloaded the game. The game of course was a frame, the general structure of what the final release would be. I played this on low graphics and had a good fun learning again the gameplay and gunplay. It is reminiscent to Wildlands but I had problems distinguishing markers and, sometimes, making out the enemies from the background. I'm not sure if it was a problem with the gamma settings, FPS, contrast or my monitor (probably a bit of it all).
Ran the available missions, got together with my mate Mithriatos (another player selected for the OTT and the Beta afterwards) And managed to play for a while in LAN. There is not much to say about the OTT. I enjoyed the main missions and faction missions, I did almost all rebel missions in GRW so it came naturally for me to go and lend a hand to allied factions.
Throughout the OTT and the Beta the game would kick us out at random intervals from the server. I reported an error I got during OTT gameplay but took it lightheartedly and did my best to have fun. Restarted my laptop, ran the game again and continued from where I left. Great news the cloud saves could let you continue.
When the first videos of GRB were released I honestly thought it would be "Having a BAD time" the game, and expected to require of all my masochism to be able to actually enjoy being chased all over the island limping, with only a handgun, some bandages in dubious state while a bunch of Spec Ops and their pet-drones were biting your heels.
Turns out there were far more factions and interesting things to do than being chased.
But boy do I fear the Azrael Drone. During Beta the owner of the session would see the helicopter of sentinel or the surveillance drone while I did not (this is Mithriatos session). if you get caught with your pants down, there is nowhere to run because the Wolves during the first few levels will punch you a few holes before you can even figure out where they're coming from.
Sentinel and Wolves reminded me in some way to Sicarios and Unidad. WIth the exception that at least you could get off Unidad with relative ease. The only way to get away from the Wolves and the Drones is using a jetpack.
Beta:
Knowing what to expect I took my time to build the main character appearance and ended up with someone that looks like Manny Ortega from Division 2. I noticed MIDAS scarf was no longer in the character appearance and felt happy to think that he most likely made it.
So I went on, wiped a bunch of Sentinel, swapped guns trying anything that scored better in gear rating than the previous one. Pillaged the stashes I found on the map and got to Erewhon.
I figured I could work with medium quality graphics and all I can say is that the game is GORGEOUS. All the details from the nomadic Polynesian culture, along with the infrastructure left behind on the US bases and the homesteaders farms and houses. GRW was really rich in environments and lore, GRB will totally outclass the previous installment on these regards.
So there was far more content here than the OTT. Managed to get a conversation with Maria (I'm not sure if she was flirting with NOMAD) and far more lore from Mads.
Did the side missions, found the psycho trophy collections and, loyal to Tom Clancy's writing, found the Cold War bunker with the plans and the story about the last stand-off against the soviets.
I hoped that after rescuing Fox at the boats I might be able to actually continue the missions beyond those available on the OTT, but found it frustrating that I would not allow me to continue. Man I will be so happy once I manage to find Hill and every other Ghost that isn't bedridden.
At least I still got my Mk17. Which is my favorite gun of GR. It was my companion in GRW and I expected to be able to stick to her here. Because I understand what Ubisoft expected to motivate us to try different guns with the gear score system. But look, this is my rifle, there are many like this one, but this one's mine.
Enjoyed the little details on the bivouac, including the improvised shelter, the preparation buffs and, there was not much on the garage but I'm looking forward to see how that works.
Also enjoyed gathering materials to craft explosives and rations, we can get Yerba Mate (I'm in Argentina, we know the stuff) to actually have Mates while on Erehwon or camping.
Funny situations that I found during the Beta fully expecting there could be some quirky behavior. NPCs walking over tables, NPCs sitting in the air. With Mithriatos we assaulted a Sentinel patrol to snatch the armored truck. I tried to remove a corpse and throw it off a bridge. But after throwing it, the game still took I was carrying around a corpse and I could not jump in the truck. I also wanted to pick up an item on a chest and for some reason the character climbed to the homesteaders roof.
I honestly had a good laugh at all of this, but there seems to be some synchronicity issues between sessions (I mentioned above the helicopter and drone missing on my map), I played coop both from home and on LAN at Mithriatos place. Perhaps this feedback might be of help.
I cannot think of anything else right now but to thank Ubisoft again for the chance to play the OTT and the Beta. I hope I can get GRB on a Winter Sale later on the year. I had a good fun, I tried to give all the feedback I could.
Hope to see you later on the year.
