Did Gear Score ruin Break Point

Personally I never wanted this game to be a looter shooter. Every looter shooter I’ve played has ended the same. I play for about a month, get so burnt out from grinding the same old stuff that I give up on the game all together. I LOVED wildlands. Still do, I find myself playing it A LOT even years after it’s release. However, breakpoint...we’ll the game itself is great I love he feel the gameplay itself is so smooth....but then there’s the gear score. Good god where did you go wrong...never in all my years of playing TC games have I ever heard someone say “they should had a gear score system”. It’s probably the most toxic thing for a game like breakpoint. Or should I say the Division 3? Enemy’s feel more spondgy then they ever did in wildlands as well. Idk if that’s due to the gear score system but it’s incredibly unrealistic and a huge turn off for me. Overall, I don’t think it’s to late to turn this game around. However the first thing that’s gotta go is gear level. It’s so toxic for a game like this and I have yet to hear from one person in the community who enjoys that feature. Tell me your thoughts please.

Here is what is funny to me. After you reach top gear score, you're in the same place that you were in Wildlands after picking up the gun. I think they may have done it for the sake of longevity. I don't mind it really. I realize some do. I think it may be a way of throttling the content. Since Div 2 is dead they brought it in to this. They couldn't manage the loot in Div 2 so I don't understand why they brought it into this. If there are problems with it, it won't show now. It will show up late game.

Agreed. Even if you try to ignore it, it’s almost impossible if you care how your character is equipped. It’s too easy to let it start taking over the game. Toxic is a good word.

I agree. The gearscore for this game is completely unnecessary. It turns the game into a Ghost Recon a la The Division.
I love the feel of the game but what good is gearscore if a weapon that has gearscore 10 can be better than a weapon with gearscore 30 or more? I had a gearscore 13 SMG up untill I switched with a weapon that had gearscore 30+ something.

Shipp71, I have to say, The Division 2 is not dead. They just released more content and even more is on the way, I think the game will live. And on another note, the gearscore system was in the game before The Division 2 was released. On a third note, saying that The Division 2 is dead is not a good thing to say if you want to show how good gearscore is since The Division 2 has only been out for 6 months. If that game can't survive 6 months what hope would this game have?

But even with this gearscore I can play the game and I love the enviroment, the feel of the weapons and the exploration and mission mechanics.

Playing your favorite game? I said this is not my favorite game this is the division and I hate looters with gear scores. Guess will cancel preorder and go back to wild lands sigh. So upset

To me, this whole upgrading or leveling on weapons shows they don't understand weapons, or they think those playing the game don't. In real life, there really isn't much you can do to make a weapon more powerful. You can increase the damage some what with some trade offs by using a longer barrel (which I haven't seen in Breakpoint, and I believe someone else pointed out). You could have ammo with a bigger slug or more powder for a bigger muzzle velocity. You can help the accuracy by using optics, but the type of optics would depend on the user and what weapons platform they are designed for. Like the ACOG. I haven't see in here, but maybe it will be there in the release. The ACOG was designed for the M-16 platform. Some use it on others, but it was designed for the 5.56 NATO round.
I would agree to remove the level up on weapons if they can. Not sure how integrated within the code base it is. But, I would like it gone.

    Again, just my 2 cents.

I wouldn`t say Gear Score ruins the game, but it`s a pretty bad fit.

I do enjoy RPGs/Looter Shooters, but -like any other genre- it has to be done right.
The first thing you`d want on such a game is meaningful loot, otherwise you get ...erm... Anthem.

The weapon-loot on Breakpoint doesn`t feel meaningful (and shouldn`t on a tactical shooter) .
This is a game where you oneshot most enemies if you play it right, which renders the whole looting thing almost pointless.
So you basicly just grind for better weapons for only a few encounters.

The devs should have realized they are merging two things which don`t fit together.

On the bright side, I enjoyed some of the encounters I had on the beta, it can feel pretty good at times.
But looting is more of a chore that distracts from the solid core gameplay.

I'm not a fan of bullet sponges or looter-shooters. But I found this to be pretty fun. The gear level isn't too bad but it definitely feels unfinished/incomplete. Frankly even the wolves, who can tear you apart in seconds, go down just as easily as any other enemy. You just aim for the head and they go down with one bullet. Or use the Tac-50 upgraded to Mk2. I've been destroying turrets in 1-2 hits and helis in 2 hits with it.

couldnt agree more, they call it a tactical shooter and then as you said bring out something where my boots or gloves effect how powerful my riffle is, i had so much hope and promise for GR:BP but this is a massive turn off for people who are actually interested in things like firearms
