Not Worth It (XBOX ONE REVIEW)

I’ve been playing the Beta since Thursday and I must be honest: I’m not sure this game is going to be worth spending a fortune on for the Ultimate Edition, which is what I initially ordered. I HAVE SINCE CANCELLED MY ORDER.

I want to like this game. I spent countless hours just exploring Wildlands. The injury system concept is great and adds a sense of realism to the game. No longer do you have to worry about enemies only, as being too cavalier with your movement is a danger on it’s own. To be honest, if they took the injury system and maybe a few other things and plugged that into Wildlands, then I’d be happy.

My biggest gripe is the modeling. Nobody stands like that, nobody runs like that. Why does every character have to have the same movement style? I still am under the impression that Ubisoft hired EA to do this. The faces remind me of Mass Effect Andromeda. It’s one thing to have outstanding environmental graphics, which this game does have. But there’s a juxtaposition when we insert this clay-mould-of-a-character into that beautiful environment. It doesn’t fit.

Are those the only tattoos that you could think of. Are those the only hairstyles you can come up with. The same as Wildlands. There’s surely more options.

Clothing apparently now magically grants you abilities (Division), where in essence it should in reality only serve to shield you from the elements. The thicker the item the more hindrance to your movement. Why not add that into the survival element? I actually like the survival element. Apparently having a green weapon over a normal one can suddenly make it hit harder, despite them using the exact same ammunition.

Why do we have to buy vehicles? This is not Need For speed. It’s a military game where play the role of a special forces operative. Why so I need credits to buy stuff, especially things like cars?

I think Ubisoft have tried too hard to create a blend of Division, Ghost Recon and Tomb Raider. In a nutshell, this is just Division 2 on a far bigger map but with worse character modeling - and let’s be honest, the modeling there is also not the best.

Overall, I’m disheartened by this game. When they said they were working with an ex-Special Forces dude, I had high hopes. I’m not sure which special forces group this was, but somewhere down the line either someone wasn’t listening to them, or they weren’t very good at their jobs.

To be fair, in my experience, the many betas I've been a part of weren't much different after retail. Aside from a plethora of bug fixes and graphical optimizations, the core game usually is very much the same. With less than a month until retail, it is unlikely that the tiered loot systems or character animations will look different.

That being said, since they've pursued a "game-as-a-service" model, I'd expect constant updates throughout the year to address issues the community has with the game. Provided that the devs (or their handlers) feel it doesn't detract from their vision of the game (or impede their handlers ability to monetize said model). Sure the last statement sounds cynical, but given the current state of how AAA companies are moving towards releasing unfinished products and charging full price (while disrespecting gamers by later adding loot box mechanics) ...I'm just merely pointing out a growing trend.

I feel for the devs though. They want to make an awesome game that people will enjoy, but are forced to compromise their vision thanks to their handlers who are beholden to the shareholders and investors. They're a business, and will pursue any business model that is profitable until it no longer is. As in any business, s*!t rolls down hill, and it's left to the devs to clean up the mess made by the "Suits".

You can stop that nonsense right now. The demo they gave is the core game and designs are absolutely set in stone. There are not gutting a game for what the fans wanted In 25 days. This is a looter shooter division knock off that no one wanted at all. This game is absolutely a insult to the GR fans to make a cash grab grind game. Shame on them and everyone who keeps saying it's just a beta. You either dont have a clue how this works or are new to the bs UBI does. We are not talking g a quick fix the game would require another year to revamp and remove the loot and shoot bs.

I really really wish this were true. Unfortunately, it isn’t.

by-and-large, this is the quality of game we’re getting Day 1.

You think they are magically going to add mechanics 30 days out? This is the game. They are trying to polish what they have and get it out.

I'm loving this game on Xbox One, I'm a fan of rpg type games so this game is right up my alley. If you're not a fan of rpg type games then you might not like this game.

To call this game rpg type is an insult to rpg genre as whole. But to be honest, rpg element as skill tree is here. And this is all from rpg genre what is in here.

There are bugs in the lighting on Xbox one X. Light flickering. Changing textures. One cutscene, they tried to do a Bokeh effect on the background. The whole scene was overblurred to the point the characters were also blurred. There is also abnormal jittering on the cutscenes.

Weird graphics with clouds. When looking down form the helicopter the clouds all rotated with the helicopter instead of staying in line with the ground below.

Movement is too loose. Hard to run around and be precise in small areas. one area keep running off the edge on some stairs with no railing. Doesn't always snap to cover. At times I thought I was behind cover only to be spotted.

AI bad when enemies living car. Stood still after exiting for a few secs. Enough time to snipe them all.

Driving vehicles is still atrocious. Too bouncy and light. Easy to flip cars.

Faction missions are boring. Go there, kill everyone. Don't even need a drones to scope out there area.

When changing gear, doesn't always update the appearance on the character.

I played the Ghost recon Wildlands beta, and this doesn't feel as finished. Didn't buy after the beta but did endedup being later on after they find a lot of the bugs. In the end, enjoyed GR Wildlands.
