But I'm betting the reason why it has melee damage instead of armor damage is because it got a 20% damage buff and the exotic talents are tied to a melee attack after swapping to the shotgun. All in all I'm happy with it. Except now you REALLY have to build for shotguns for them to be good.
I think it would still be fair to switch them and here is why i think that.
For an explosive user you get multiple talents that increase your explosive damage. Aside from weapon damage you can also get another 25% from the demo tree. Then you also get destructive which adds another 40%. Then you can add mods to increase damage even further.
Now with shotgun builds i can invest in damage, which you can too. I can slot gear mods, so can you. Now while i can use a shotgun more than you can use skills, i have to be much closer and you can throw them from a distance. I can't hit multiple enemies with a shotgun (unless they're really close together), and explosive damage also relates to grenades as well. Basically what I'm saying is that wearing an extra piece for that 10% or deciding to forego it altogether for more stats or mods would affect an explosive build less than the positive impact it would have on a shotgun build. And as stated before in the original post, there's just no reason to have to wear 2 pieces of China's light just for shotgun damage.
Now if the devs decide it's a good idea then that's cool. If not, it's whatever.
honestly yall are putting it fully from a shotgun users point of view just wanting more easy damage. i'm sorry but no. i'm sick and tired of these bs super crit stack builds for guns and only guns that everyone wants to push so hard. I use a shotgun myself and have no issues with the damage output. but making a skill build is hard enough as it is. Tell me how would you feel in a raid if someone joined running a skill build? you'd boot their asses... someone comes in with a shotgun build you be ok whatever. Why is that? because skill builds have so little going for them even after the update. Now taking away explosive damage which is very prevalent in many skill builds would hurt them even worse!. So no as a shotgun user and an explosive skills user i dont think this would be a fair change i think it'd piss of many explosives and skills users alike.
The point i was trying to make is that shotgun damage should be the first bonus. Either that or increase the bonus for having to equip 2 pieces. The point is from a shotgun user point of view, but since you use both anyway it wouldn't make a difference if they were switched. actually it would affect me big time!!! see playing a skill build i use 4 pieces of wired and the btsu gloves which leaves me only one gear piece available my backpack so taking that away would nerf the hell out of my already weak build. There's only so many ways to buff explosion damage. aka 1 explosion damage. but you can boost your shotgun with shotgun buffs or gun buffs. Since the update you cant stack explosion talents anymore so explossion users and skill users lost a ton of damage potential on builds that are already sneared at by elitist gun crit stack players. stop trying to change stuff that hurts other players who are already hurting. My shotgun doesnt need more damage but my seeker mines and grenades are already sorely lacking and losing that 10% would destroy my build making it utterly unplayable. How bout instead of taking something away from others to give to yourself like a communist we try the idea of oh hey make a new set that has shotgun as first piece instead of take away from the already starving skill and explosives users
Skill and explosive builds are hardly starving. I was just fighting a group of 3 in the odz with a friend. 2 of them were skill builds and one shooter. You can either be demo for an extra 25% damage or survivalist for a free 80% skill haste on mines. You can stack weapon talents and gear talents to increase your effectiveness as well.
So far nearly every reply was in agreement with what i posted originally. So instead of calling someone a communist and accusing me of being selfish, recognize that you're in the minority regarding this matter that hasn't even had an ubi response.
Also, read the original post again. I said the bonus should be on the first piece worn. I never said it had to be China's light so stop assuming this is about you and your build.
