    My thoughts on this game

When this game was announced few years ago, I was very happy, waiting for it. We didn’t have good game about medieval wars. The only one that comes in my mind – Tripwire’s “Chivalry: Modern Warfare”. However it’s old (2012) game, didn’t have modern graphics and perk system at all. So, when I saw the trailer of “For Honor”, I said – “Damn, this will be an amazing game!”. When it was released and beta was free to try, I tried, but didn’t like it much, well it was beta and lacked a lot of things. One thing I didn’t like – it was too slow, too oriented more on tactics, position and etc… Later full version was released and after few years they gave it for free for a limited time if I’m not mistaken. I grabbed it, but was too busy to play video games and now when I’m on a vacation and got bored of playing my favorite games (Killing Floor 2 and Rainbow Six Siege), I decided to start For Honor. I’ll tell my impressions and tell what I like and what I don’t like about it. It will be just my opinion which I’m entitled to have.

Game feels and looks much better than beta when I played it. They improved a lot things. I can definitely say that I enjoy playing it and I would review and going to review it positively on Steam, however there are things in game which I don’t like and things that could be improved or changed. To be more precise, it’s still not the game I was looking for and I’ll tell you why:

First of all – perks & reputation (leveling) system! Most gear perks are useless and don’t give you anything important. You get gear, some rare or epic ones, with some abilities, but those abilities as I said aren’t giving you anything important, so they are pretty useless and personally I don’t care about them. Reputation just shows how much you have played. It just goes up after your hero levels up and nothing more. So, if someone has big reputation it means they played a lot this game with that character and that’s it. It also doesn’t give you anything. So, what I would suggest or do if I were devs – It would be definitely more interesting if reputation was actually rewarding you with something valuable (giving you an option on each reputation step to choose to upgrade any of those three things – stamina, health, attack speed. So all your hard earned hours in game would be rewarded and just not for the empty reputation number. Also I would replace gear perks with more important things like sword gear adds more damage to sword, more rare – more rooms to upgrade it. Other types of gear should give you other abilities like – like armor, health, stamina and etc… Such game would be definitely more interesting than the current one we have. I would have more motivation to play to level up my hero, become stronger or get some rare nice gear.

Now another things I don’t like in this game – too much animations and bad interface! Some animations are just a waste of time, for example, when you die and waiting to spawn and when you spawn it shows you 1 second animation how you are spawn. This isn’t necessary at all, it’s just waste of time and players would definitely like instant spawn instead. Also when you die and wait, most players want to see what other players are doing, not that useless tactical view which by default activates.

Another frustrating thing in interface is when you get killed by someone, you get pretty big picture of your killer for a few seconds and I will tell you why it’s frustrating: When I die for example, first thing I want to check is scoreboard and that’s what I click, but guess what? That big picture of my killer is obstructing scoreboard and I’m unable to view it well (lower right part is not visible), until it disappears automatically or click space to hide it. It’s very annoying.

Another thing to mention – clicks! As I mentioned game interface isn’t great and especially before or after the match. For example when match is over, you need to click several times space bar to see all your rewards, xp and etc… And your click not just once but SEVERAL TIMES! Why complicate it so much? Why not simplify it like other games? Couldn’t you make everything easier on one screen without so many clicks?

Another thing that I don’t like – when you spawn and you have your finger on shift keyboard to run, your character still doesn’t run, until you release your finger and click shift button again. Which is another waste of time and quite frustrating.

My final conclusion is that game isn’t bad, but it’s not great either. It could be better if devs would try harder.

If you recall, the old gear system used to provide damage and stamina upgrades. But the problem is that it became too much of a factor in combat.

I believe the overall player base wants a game that relies more on skill to win instead of a gear-based system that can noticeably tip the odds. That is why the benefits of gear in Dominion are minimal now; the previous system was incredibly disadvantageous for new players.

I personally prefer the current system in which in-game hero progression is mostly just cosmetic and doesn't rely on gear. However, I would like to see more rewards for reaching higher rep levels-- such as an option to add a permanent lightsaber effect to your weapon or something like that. Playing the game on May 4th with the lightsaber effects was a lot of fun, that type of cosmetic upgrade would be great for a Rep 30 reward.
