It occurred to me the other day that one of the biggest problems this game has is communication with the players.
I think that the Devs and the State of the Game crew could do a much better job of communication. Lately especially, some of the SotG videos have seemed more like hostage videos to me. No one really wants to say anything and no one really wants to be there. It's kind of like everyone on camera and behind the camera is afraid of the players.
I think that State of the Game should take a page from the Warframe Devstreams. They seem to do one of these at least once a month, sometimes as often as every two weeks. They directly address issues and they talk about various issues that the game has in a very honest way. These are on top of the daily shows they do that highlight the game on the various platforms it's on. But the point is, they engage with their community and are constantly trying to communicate with their community.
I know that SotG is on a vacation, and I don't blame them for taking some time off, but even when it's on, there's a feeling that there are certain issues that are being avoided and that there are topics that aren't being talked about. Maybe it's because the SotG is only a half hour show versus Warframe streams that are usually around an hour or more. Or maybe it has to do with the fact that there are just so many more official streams coming out from Warframe but it really seems like they're nailing the communication with players while the Division devs are as tight lipped bout things as our agent is silent.
And I know they do address some issues, but I think that they could be doing a much better job of it and be a lot more open about the development of the game, what issues they see internally and what issues they're working of fixing. Things like what they're looking to buff or nerf or increase or decrease the challenge of, etc..
Anyway, just some random thoughts for today.

I've said this before but: If they don't speak, then it would create a perception that they don't care or aren't listening. If they do speak, they might say something that will piss people off, since you can't please everyone. I think the latter is a matter of who they want the game to appeal to the most. If that hasn't been figured out yet, then there will always be dissonance. At least, in my opinion.
Agreed. In this day and age, a game company that doesn't have some kind of community interaction would be a very bad thing.
And I get it, if they say something it might make some players upset, but I think that would only happen at the beginning. The more they talked openly and honestly with the players the less the players would be upset by what ever is said and the more they'd be able to understand that the devs are out to make the best game possible, not just piss in their Cheerios.
That isn't how people would react. No matter what Ubi says, has said, or will say, there will always be a large amount of whining, complaining, condescension and selfish manipulation by the user base. Folks are pretty horrible on the internet, as a general rule. People want what they want when they want it and want it their way.
While I would normally agree with this, look at the Warframe community. They are typically very supportive of the devs, I believe this is because the devs are typically very open and engaging with their players. On top of that, if the devs address the concerns of the players in a direct manner there's less room for rumor and speculation and people can point to specific things that have been said to counter the haters out there.Originally Posted by Caurlann Go to original post
They have been, okay with communications, I would not say they've been "good". I'd like to see them be much better with their communications, acknowledge problems brought up by the community. Ask for pics or vids showing the problem if that stuff isn't being provided already. But they need to engage more with the community.Originally Posted by xcel30 Go to original post
Put up more streams on a regular basis of community managers, or devs even, playing the game. Have them show off their builds and invite the community to join groups for raid and heroics and such.
There's so much more public relations work that can be done with this game that will go a long way to keeping people engaged and feeling like they're being listened to.
