How do you beat light spam?

The light spam is real... how do you beat it? I know I handled it fine in 2017 but I'm getting wrecked by noobs now.

You react to it and try to block or parry. If they're spamming the same attack over and over again, they're giving you a lot of information you can use.

Whichever hero/es it is, you can set bots to light spam in the Training Arena to further refine your reactions. I've done this recently for Hitokiri's heavies, actually, and it helped me out.

How do you set bots to spam? I often set them to only use their light/heavy combos, but they don't spam they just sit there for about 3 seconds between each combo.

I don't know what it is. I used to be able to react to light attacks, but now I can't seem to block more than 1/3 of them and I can't parry any of them.

Some of them were sped up considerably. 400ms lights supposed to be unreactable, so it's somewhat about knowing your matchups and when they can do a 400ms. It also might be that you have latency issues or something with your controller, but the game these days is greatly about reading attacks.

I would not call your opponents noobs, they just found a succesful way to defeat you, they might have great skill, they just don't need it against you yet. The fault is definetely not with them, and althought I would not say anyone should look you down for not parrying 400ms lights, calling someone a noob just because you can't counter their playstyle is not the attitude you need.

Goat, I know the difference between a noob and a skilled player. There's no shame in being a noob. 400ms lights were not unreactable in 2017, I'm not sure why they wouldn't be today.

This thread is about strategies and methods for overcoming difficulties, not for arguing about semantics or classifying a problem as unsolvable.

Do you know which characters have 400ms lights and from what direction they come from if not from all 3? That'd be helpful. I know there are certain directions to default-guard against specific foes, but I've forgotten all of that.

You just have to focus. Its really not as big an issue on pc than on console. Not going to lie, ive tried Orochi spamming on pc and every mixup was blocked. Just keep practicing switching your guard. I also recommend using heroes like Tiandi (if you have MF) or Warlord because for whatever reason, the guard switch on both of them feels more responsive and quicker than other heroes...for whatever reason.

I play on PS4 and I'm not about to switch characters just so I can block lights more effectively. Do the characters have different block stance change times? I recall that they did in the past, some heavier characters switched stances slower and it made it more difficult for them to block attacks.

Did you all practice as the moderator suggested? But training against a spamming bot? Or did you practice in-game? Before I quit I was actually quite good outside of competitive matches (I don't believe there was a division back then) but I am quite disappointed atm. The new characters are insanely hard, but I can't even reliably parry the old characters like I used to and I'm having no more success blocking, either.

Side question: Is this game free or discounted for PC if we already own it on PS4 and/or is there a way to share/transfer account data? I have all the DLCs and some favorable cosmetics on my PS4 character but am greatly considering switching to PC.

Off the top of my head:

Peace keeper is her in combo lights and her first hit on zone.

Lawbringer's top light opener and chained top light.

Berzerker's chain lights and his feinted into neutral side lights.

Valk's chained top light and top light finisher.

    Highlanders offensive form side lights.

Shaman's soft feinted top light bleed and top light bleed at end of combo.

Orochi's chain light and top light finisher.

    Aramusha's deadly feinted lights.

    Tiandi's chain light finishers.

JJ's side light finisher after a kick.

Nuxia's chained lights and light finishers.

    Shaolin's top light opener.

If you can't block them on PS4, switch to PC, no amount of practicing can help you read the mind of another player. It's just a guessing game with light spam on console, unless you set up your console exactly like a PC is set up, which negates all the reasons of playing on a console.

Light spam is only going to get faster and more wide spread from here on out by the looks of the last 5 or 6 reworks.

Thanks! That's helpful. I have a spreadsheet with info, but it's kinda hard to read.

Sidenote: How do you do light attacks in offensive stance with Highlander? For me, the same finger that channels offensive stance is the finger that uses light attacks, so I end up leaving offensive stance before I can use a light attack. It's a very weird set-up.
