Right now shinobi is a hot mess, even more so than he was before this season started. I thought the goal of these slow patches and hero changes was to STOP things like this from happening, instead we have to wait for 3 months for a glimpse that shinobi might be playable. It's really frustrating. His kick is too slow and too predictable, and it needed the hyperarmour to land. What you've done is taken an already annoying hero to fight, and give him less offensive tools, so now he has to turtle even more. Is this really the goal you want with these patches? To revert heroes?
Shinobi's backflip is arguably better now.
The kick has always and still works as a counter attack to a committed to move. All the armor did was allow you to trade.
Shinobi's optimal play was always someone who turtled at the edge of fights using his ranged attacks and running rotations.
He can still chip people away with his absurd damage as well. Practically nothing changed with his optimal style of play and thus your claim that he's not viable is false.
The distance traveled is that of a regular dodge. No, his dodge isn't better. And that armor on his kick gave him the pressure and opening he lacked. His "opener" now is just his lights or making someone whiff and punish them with a chain grab. Yes his damage is very good. And I wouldn't say his optimal play is his range considering all of it is reactable and punishable.Originally Posted by Knight_Raime Go to original post
He's definitely more of a whiff punishing, light slaughtering assassin. Simple as.
I would just want his armored kick back for the fear and mind games it presented. Less concerned about the backflip, still gives just enough space to chain grab punish someone.
The most significant nerf Shinobi has had this patch was Sickle Rain becoming interruptible, something that was gonna happen anyway since all major CC moves were being nerfed. Revenge ignoring was stupid and had to go. Hyperarmor removal had close very little effect except for some specific cases like Shugoki's hug being negated on Shinobi's zone. Backflip has i-frames now in exchange for being shortened. He still has one of the highest damage profiles in the game, still a great counterattacker, high mobility, same off screen pressure like before. Very far from not viable, and apparently the devs don't feel like he should be an oppressive attacker with concrete openers, which honestly fits Shinobi well.
By the way, as far as I know, my Centurion is the only one left with an uninterruptible CC in this game.
His back flip has zero GB vulnerability and has next to no recovery after it's finished. They also gave it I frames. This means it's 100% better at evading things compared to before hand where GB's would track as would attacks. You can practically deflect right after you finish the flip too and shinobi has really strong deflects. The ONLY thing old backflip had over new back flip was being able to tank a hit on a bad backflip and still get sickle rain on someone who committed to trying to punish you. And that was stupidly unhealthy.Originally Posted by iadvisoryi Go to original post
LMAO giving armor to his kick gave is kick pressure? Girl, no. It was and still is reactable. All it "did" was allow you to be making trades you shouldn't be for free stupid damage. It's still 100% viable as a counter punish tool and is still 100% safe because of the charged heavy option select. Just because your WRONG way to play Shinobi no longer works doesn't mean they gutted the boy.
He's as viable as he's always been. Just slightly less stupid.
I find it funny how much you believe yourself to be true, somebody has a counter point, they play the game or character wrong. "Free easy damage" oh like all 3 of the new season characters? You wanna list all the armored easy damage characters get right now? The armor gave him a damage option and set him up for mix aside from just using it for a counter attack, your gonna ca a light? Someone faints a heavy smacks you out of kick? 100% safe he says... Lol. Armored kick, trade, setup for a heavy or a bicycle kick, or a gb if they try to dodge either. Aka pressure. He's never relied on his charged ranged heavy or gb for anything other than a punish. He's a counter attack character and the armored kick gave him options other than running tf away.
