Today I want to talk to you about UGC aka mods and answer a few questions related to them, and
how to handle them in Anno 1800.

What is “UGC” aka “Mods”?

If you hear someone talking about “mods” or “UGC” then this person means “User Generated
Content”, which is a "Modification" of one or more aspects of the game. A "mod" sometimes changes the files of a game, or adds new ones to it. Mods can affect the visual elements of a game, change balancing, whole gameplay mechanics or even mean a complete overhaul of the game.

Is it allowed to use Modifications in Anno 1800?

Ubisoft Blue Byte does not provide mod support for their game in any official capacity, which means using any kind of UGC is at your own risk. However, they are a big fan of the creative force behind many talented mod creators.

If you install mods then you are changing the official game files, keep in mind that we won’t be able to provide any official technical support for your game. Changing the files of your game can create bugs, cause instability of the game client or even damage your save file. This means that if anything goes wrong after applying a mod (like black screens or game crashes) the Ubisoft support team will not be able to help you until you reset all the changes.

How I can reset the changes?

Follow these instructions from the Ubisoft Support: here

Tips and Tricks in dealing with mods :

  • Always create a backup of your save and game files..
  • Download mods only from trusted websites.
  • When a new official game update is release, remove the mods before installing it.
  • Alternatively, you can deactivate the automatic updates of the game.
