Plans for For Honor in 2020

So I made a post awhile back on the forums regarding an End of Life plan for For Honor, to which I received a reply from UbiInsulin stating that something of the sort was not needed "any time soon".

So, fellow Heroes and Ubisoft staff, what will be the plans for For Honor for the upcoming Year 4? What do you (the players) think will be added, removed, and or changed for the next year?

As a side note, please understand I do love this game, however I do fear we may be approaching the end of this game's life span, or at the very least, the end of the game's support for future changes, updates, etc.

It looked that way at E3 but with a solid chunk of heroes getting standardized 500ms lights and a new breach map + spectator mode coming this season, it does look like thay have plans

I feared we were nearing For Honor's end after their uneventful E3 appearance, but now with spectator mode and testing grounds announced, why would they add these things if "the end" is nearing. They're finally more transparant and we have a new breach map after nearly a year. I'd say the future does look bright as this year was supposed to be a second "cataclysm" (Marching Fire being the first). We're at the end of an era in For Honor, a new one will begin in Y4 so I feel like we might expect a lot more stuff in year 4.

From a lore perspective the first cataclysm was before year one, before story mode come to that, but yes they did mention a second one which in my view would be changing the map to add the wu lin faction.

As to the op, testing grounds does suggest that we will be getting support for some time yet. Ubisoft seem to want to give For Honor the Siege treatment and hopefully testing grounds gets updates out there faster because they can put changes into live play they couldn't put into a proper build with the only way to change it being another patch, though it is up to the players to give proper, not kneejerk 'hero i main' or 'hero I hate' feedback. Personally, as someone who is putting time into all the heroes and will only focus on a few once everyone is at rep eight, I would like to see the original cast get DLC level kits.

I kind of think that if they still want to go competitive they need a sequel, maybe when the new gen consoles come out, I would love to be proven wrong (not least becasue getting to top gear class with all the characters would be another year or so of grind), but if that is the case they might as well keep this one going until they have things polished and learn what works well in their combat system before launching one where every character has the benefit of what they have learned over the past few years, so I would say we have a couple of years at least of this iteration left.

To my understanding, there are currently no plans on a Sequel, at least according to the Mod team on here. I could however see a second game possibly in the works or another Ubisoft title utilizing the core gameplay of For Honor. I guess only time will tell!

My guess is that if there ever is one it will be when newgen consoles come out which would be good for two reasons, people on console will move to the next one which unless this is backwards compatible from day one they will move away from the game and even then it won't be 60fps because it will be on the current gen also unless they go solely newgen and pc and remove support from the current gen version. So a new game would mean they might be able to do 60fps which means gamers with bad competitive setups (non gaming tvs, wireless routers, wireless controllers) will have to blame something other than fps for not being able to handle light attacks. I also believe that newgen release will kill or near kill the console playerbase regardless, even with backwards compatibility I can think of one, maybe two 360 games I have spent more than an hour on and neither of those I have put any significant time into, this before I started gaming on PC. The other is that starting from scratch means all heroes are in the same boat which would make it easier to float in the competitive/esport market than the current state where some heroes are obsolete.

I do however think that with spectator mode and testing grounds any sequel would be a very long way off.

Oh, my bad, I got the lore wrong le sigh
However it was worth mentioning that there would come a second cataclysm that would change For Honor's landscape by quite a bit. ^^

Yes, so I certainly think that if they follow through on that it means a the least Wu Lin as a selectable faction, maybe another if they are ready for another faction yet (they did say the chinese was always going to be the first new faction).

If there will come a new faction, I wonder if they can generate more decibels than the Wu Lin 🤔
Because everyone loves the Wu Lin....,right? 😅

Honestly the way season 11 is looking and the things added it appears the game is actually gaining momentum. E3 made me worry but this looks like the biggest update yet.
