So I posted this opinion/suggestion in a similar post in the NEW HERO and PATCH discussion... but I wanted to get feedback on some players... so I figured Id kind of post a similar thing here...
The new hero plays like a hybrid. He is not a tank. Not in appearance, and not by design. His gear is NOT reminiscent of any type of Nordic front line hero. He has no shield which is completely out of character for a tank, and NOT a two handed weapon, which is completely out of line for even a fantasy version of a 'tank" class.
The truth is, in comparison, the Highlander plays more like a tank than this hero. This hero is a hybrid between assassin and vanguard.
An incredibly badly developed hero in all honesty. It took less than 10 minutes for the devs to describe him as a Centurion ripoff. Which is a HUGE INSULT to the development considering the Centurion has been one of the most hated characters by group combat players since the game came out.
So much so that he had to be nerfed into the ground, and now is in a state of flux, and yet you introduced another hero by the same nature into the game.
Please dont ever do this again....
This hero feels already like he lacks a place on the battlefield, and a true definition of what he is..
I hope the next Viking gets more attention, love, and better weapon and armor.
I always support this product with my opinions, videos, and money.... But this was severely disappointing. And pretty much, across the board in my discord, everyone feels the same. No one wanted another iteration of the Centurion, especially on the Viking side.
Personally, I feel that the other factions got an actual TANK... they got an actual representation of their historical background in SOME form with armor and even lore... this hero has neither.
There could at least have been some chain mail, and a proper two handed Warhammer, weight of about 7.5 to 15lbs at the head of the hammer... or a one handed hammer and shield even.
Give him some meat on his bones.... HE LOOKS STARVING AND WILD. Not concentrating and ready for combat...
He is wearing rags, bare feet, no shoulder armor or head armor???? Who is designing this? They should be talked too, asked to rationalize this, and then taken to task by their manager.
I am a person of Scandinavian decent whos lineage comes from centuries in the coastlines of western Denmark, who grew up in one of the only Scandinavian enclaves left in the US, and is tattooed in traditional ways as mandated by the family, and is incredibly attached to the old country and the old world... it was rough to see this particular chapter in your product because of how far it fell into complete fantasy and utterly disgusting gear design. But oh well... guess there is always next year.
Love you guys. Next time give us a bit more love in our hero. All Im saying.
Sorry if I leave out some points!
Tanks/heavies here mainly function as area holders, in which this hero is certainly very good. The new hero has high hp, good damage resistance with the feats, and the damage potential is certainly quite high. I would even say this is more of a tank than conqueror, who always felt like a hybrid.
I am not an expert of viking culture, but from the heroes in the game, only the warlord looks somewhat accurate. The raider is a fantasy barbarian, hl is not viking, the other three are kinda weird. A chainmail option would be good for all of them though. I am personally more bothered that the raider is halfnaked.
The hammer is two handed, the jormungandr uses some one handed punches with the head, but heavy attack are done with two. A one-hander maul wouldn't have a longer shaft than berserker's axe. Realistically, dropping a shield in favour of this type of weapon would be a good idea only if you wear good armor, like the warden, kensei and especially lawbringer. Raider, Hitokiri and Shugoki would drop like flies in a real battle, the new hero is a very bit better armored at least if you choose the right armorset. Considering the offensive part, this is exactly the weapon to wither a shield apart. I think heavies don't really need shields, only 3 has it now. This hero is more related to mitology than to actual warfare, and a god can get away with a lot of ******** without dying (excluding poor Baldur).
I think the gameplay is quite alright. I think it’s different enough from centurion to set the two apart and all that. They only share similarities with the ground attack.
My main complaint about the jorm is the appearance. With all due respect, it looks like a caveman, far far from a warrior. All the other Vikings excluding highlander (not a real Viking) have some armor at least. Zerker has chainmail and leather, raider has leather and helmets. Warlord looks exactly how a Viking should. Valkyrie has leather and helmets and a shield. Shaman has leather (although I have similar complaints about her character appearance as well, looking like a caveman/hobo). And as far as Highlander’s go, he looks accurate. But this new character looks like a hobo/caveman entirely.
