So here's the problem...
I've spent the majority of my time in For Honor playing PvAI. Killing bots is easier for challenges and whatnot. The thing is, doing this has grossly overinflated my overall K/D and W/L ratio. Now the game thinks I'm some sort of fighting god and because of that, it keeps pairing me with/against people who are way above my skill level when I actually try my luck in PvP.
So I'm wondering what's the most effective way to bring my stats down? Go into a match and play badly on purpose? I don't want to do that since that would be considered griefing and throwing a game. And that's not fair to my teammates.
Maybe go into solo PvAI matches and just let the bots use me as a punching bag? (a chance for them to get back at me for all the times I killed them)
I guess I just don't understand why your stats in PvAI are connected with your PvP stats.
I don't think you should do that. It is actually a good chance for you to fight some very good players and get some tricks from them. Since they will defeat you quite often if they are indeed that much better, it will even out with you learning more and your k/d eventually reaching the realistic level.
I suggest to start with 1v1s. They will have results far quickly and you might get an idea of what they are doing better easier, it will help you even it out faster than 4v4s (since you can still win a 4v4 if your team carries you, it won't help that much with balancing).
MM is based on your FH tracker stats and these one are based only on your PvP match.
Pvai only affect the pretty small amount of stats you can see in game.
For example i dont play any duel i am a 4v4 player only. But i do every duel order against AI. It gives me very high in game stats in duel while on FH tracker i have only 1.24 which is far lower than my 4v4 kd/kad because i've only played duel at the beginning.
I think you are just very use to fight against AI and pvp is very different.
Why would you have to "throw" games when you're fighting people above your skill level? Just play the game normally and you'll lose to them anyway, if they really are better players than you. No need to throw. MM should eventually place you were you belong, if you play your own way.
Having said that, the MM in this game is a bit weird, because of low playercount. I can be playing against what seem to be pro's one day, only to play against what seem to be complete noobs the next. It's like there isn't really a middle ground. But u hear they plan on improving MM.
I think you are just unfamiliar with the nuance that comes along with fighting another human rather than a bot even a lvl 3 bot. This game has a steep learning curve, high skill ceiling and requires much muscle memory... even moreso for older players or those with slower reaction times.
Although the problem you are stating and your initial suggestion seem to be completely contradictory. What sense does it make to purposely play poorly when the problem you are having is you are playing poorly against human opponents?
Just keep playing it will keep trying to match you with similar skill level opponents but it kind of depends if you are playing during peak time or not. For Honor has a decent dedicated playerbase but it doesn't have a large casual population at any given time so even if you are matched with the lowest skill level those players are likely quite familiar with the game they are just unable to keep up with the players that are proficient at reading their enemies, using effective mix-ups and are aware of and able to execute more advanced techniques.
If you are on PC add me on Uplay, ill gladly do some brawls or something with you and show you a few things that may boost your skill and confidence. Good luck!
