Shinobi Nerf... My thoughts as a Shinobi main

Ubisoft I’m aiming this at you. Taking away shinobi’s hyperarmor on his backflip and kick specifically will make him unplayable. In my opinion shinobi was very weak in every way besides his ranged guardbreak in a gank. Low Heath, no openers, no good chains or mixups at higher levels. And no. The kick is neither a mixup nor an opener. It was mostly a trading tool and counter attack tool. That’s it. But now with the nerf it can’t be used that way. So now you’ve made it so that light light is the main way to get damage and we can’t take risky damage trades off kick. It’s absolutely mind boggling that you guys didn’t give shinobi more mixups so we could be able to sustain in a fight and be more aggressive. Shinobi doesn’t have the tools or the health to be in your face all the time. He just doesn’t against players who can reliably dodge the kick. You messed up ubi and I may honestly leave after this. Hammer hero looks cool but I love the assassin style of hero and very specifically shinobi. I had fun every time I got on and played shinobi. I didn’t win all the time but I was more entertained playing my favorite character even if he was weak. I don’t really care for the meta characters. They make the game a cakewalk and they are horrible to fight against. I will play the hero hulda and see how fun it is and I will test shinobi out but I think I’m quitting the game.

This next message is to all the forum people who complain about shinobi. All you guys do is cry. And now you’ve gotten your wish. Shinobi has been nerfed into the dirt. Congrats on ****ing us over. You guys need to look at characters objectively. Every person who complains about shinobi to me has put less than 5 reps in on the character and that is not nearly enough time to understand the character and his weaknesses. I’m sorry but ranged guardbreak is only op if the shinobi has smart teammates and if the shinobi is good at breaking a character in recovery. Otherwise throwing it out is an invitation to get beat on. Just because you got sickle rained once doesn’t mean the character needs to be nerfed. Shinobi is only op in a smart gank. Forget trying to antigank. With revenge being broken even a good shinobi can’t ward off more than 2 people. He doesn’t have aoe attacks or any antigank tools. The trade off is having a good ganking tool. Next time go cry about raider or lawbringer because those two characters actually have massive issues with their kit and specifically lawbringer perpetuates the turtle meta.

Anyway Ubi once this patch goes live you’re going to see the player numbers on shinobi go from the small amount it is now to zero and you’ll probably lose some customers who dedicated hours upon hours to the character.

You did not needed smart team mates with the ranged guardbreak though. You needed players with the ability to press buttons and figure out in two seconds that they were invited to a massacre, because from that point, they could senslessly spam anything they wanted, because nothing interrupted it. Basically it was a death sentence to be grabbed in a teamfight, required nothing intelligent from the other team mates, similarly to old shugoki hug. Now, it does require some decent team mates who will wait for you to place your bleed and then hit in the right time, but it's not a tragedy if you don't get the bleed strike, you still got the heavy that placed the opponent on the knees.

Shinobi is/was a walking exploit in this game, one that almost nobody had any idea how to rework to make it fair. It would have been better if they could come out with one now, but the asap part was making it less ******** to fight a shinobi who can just keep stalling the fight, that part is done well. He is still not terrible, he just can't mindlessly backflip every time he tries to take a free 25 damage kick and fails (yeah, that is **** in neutral, just like every other dodge attack excluding the Junk's). I would say he is still second only to berserker among the assassins', and is very useful as a team fighter (yeah, no opener in 1v1, but you still have 29 damage on a heavy parry and 50 on a deflect, that's not a bad thing, and your bad guard is gone too, you can play close more).

You clearly have not played shinobi. As a shinobi main i agree that sickle rain should be nerfed hell even ranged gb but taking away his hyper armor was dumb. That's all he has, now he will just get light attacked every time you see him dodge, and if you have played shinobi you would know that getting ganked you will die if your opponent gets a single gb on you. This is proof that the devs dont even play their own game. They want a more aggressive meta but all they are doing is making the shinobis want to run even more.

    Shinobi Nerf.

Taking away all of his hyper amour (including his backward flip) was a terrible idea. Now if we even try to go on the offensive we become even more of a punching bag for characters with fast light ( that thanks making orochi faster) but why make a already hard character to play even more difficult. The sickle rain yes really needed the Nerf but taking away everything for the guy with giving something back. People argue well deflect more sure I'd love too, being on console isn't like being on PC where you can see fast lights with no problem. You're making the game so hard for people that want to play difficult character vs the people that just wanna say there better for using over powered characters. That was one of the reason why I pick shinobi. So I can beat people using a really hard character. I can't spam anything it'll risk being parried or dodge then I have to get into a safe distance with his back flip not like 3 heavy's or 5 lights couldn't kill me already. You literally killed one of your characters. Thanks ubi..

    P.s

You might wanna change stuff in hero tactics for the new people wanting to play him after this update. Because most things in there will not help when implied to a real match.

I think everything coming is gonna better the game. Except the Orochi stuff. The removal of Shinobi's HA will help prevent the kick spam. Shinobi isn't hard to play, but I think he doesn't need HA as hitting someone already stuns them, giving the Shinobi time to backflip to safety. I'd also like to think Shinobi is mostly used for his ranged attacks. Otherwise, he is no different from Peacekeeper. If you want to rely on HA, I'd just suggest moving on to Beserker.

He is different from peacekeeper, he deals damage.

I never said he wasn't. I said if he didn't ranged attacks then he'd basically be no different than Peacekeeper. They both deal damage but Peacekeeper can more damage more often since she has bleed attacks instead of having to deflect or get a slow heavy/ranged guardbreak.

Again actually play shinobi before complaining, without hyper armor on his kicks everyone will just light attack him out of it and that only leaves him with 2 hit chains and the lowest healthpool in the game. If shinobi was op don't you think more people would play him, after this update you would see a shinobi once in a blue moon.

I agree with LynxD3stiny, this nerf was excessive in all of the worst ways and it only encourages Shinobi players to take even fewer risks.

In Dominion matches, the Post-Nerf Shinobi might just spend the whole match avoiding direct confrontations and instead only attacking when their opponents are distracted.

With these nerfs it's not worth trying to fight a fair fight since the Shinobi was already barely viable in 1v1 fights to begin with, this nerf only adds to that problem and gives the Shinobi player even more incentive to avoid most 1v1 fights and instead they may have to rely on sprinting around the map looking to gank outnumbered opponents using the Ranged GB.

Expect to see Shinobi players doing a lot more ganks during Dominion and spending a lot less time standing their ground. The irony is that the Post-Nerf Shinobi playstyle will probably evolve to annoy players even more because of the enhanced "weasel" tactics that they'll need to use to stay alive and competitive in 4v4 matches

As someone who used to main Shinobi, this seems like the only reliable way to compensate for the nerf. I will mostly be using the new hammer Hero, but I will still give this Nerfed Shinobi a test drive. If I have to fight like a weasel using the Nerfed Shinobi, then it will definitely annoy my opponents a lot more than it's going to bother me, because I DO NOT care if people respect how I compensate for a Nerf as MASSIVE as this.

I will use my Nerfed Rep 28 Shinobi to troll opponents to the worst extent possible if that is the only way to survive. This kind of a Nerf will not necessarily make the player experience better for people in 4v4 who have to play against the Nerfed-Shinobi playstyle which will undoubtedly rely more on trolling opponents using hit-and-run sneak attacks and less time on bothering to fight it out face-to-face.

This patch will not prevent a Shinobi from running away from a fight that they know they can't win because of how badly they have been nerfed. The Nerfed-Shinobi playstyle will almost certainly evolve into "attack, then run away, then attack, then run away, and the cycle will repeat throughout the entire match."

This will help the Shinobi. There won't be anymore spam which will allow Shinobi mains to get good at him instead of eating attacks. He doesn't need HA asthe whole point is to not get hit. They even gave him double dodge. And you can't just assume someone hasn't played a character just because their opinion goes against yours about your favorite hero.

Shinobi I thought use to be cool but he can't deal any damage that was worth trading. Having no HA will sharpen your skills in time and you'll be doing better than before.
