Greetings All,
I was a moron recently, and would appreciate assistance in recovering from my current predicament.
TL;DR - How does one "un-settle" an island?
Beryl was grinding away on my girl Bente, so put a stop to it. Assembled several squadrons of Ships-of-the-Line and Frigates with my copious resources and Influence points. I keep 100 Influence or so in my pocket for propaganda needs. Deployed them around Beryl's outpost islands in both New and Old World. Went to the Diplomacy screen and... the monkey flipped the switch.
Didn't think the consequences through. A few minutes later I am possession of a half-dozen islands... and a huge negative Influence number.
Now of course... after the fact... I discovered a work-around. Instead of conquering, I take the shares, then sell them all to the Queen. Let the two of them work it out, I am sailing away to next target. Hope Beryl likes being Her Royal Majesty's b*tch. Target and short-term threat is negated. A little schadenfreude sauce makes victory taste better.
I neither want nor need these extra islands, and want my girl Bente to have a chance at them. I have little doubt there is a forehead-slappingly easy way to do this. Just want to get rid of a little trading post sitting by itself. I saved and tried selling all MY shares to the Queen, but that didn't get my Influence back.
I could easily destroy a few Zoo modules, and get back above water. Cutting off my nose to spite my face there, as that would reduce attractiveness and income. Selling a few ships would put a dent in it, but don't want to do that in a war situation.
So, laugh at the newb, but help him out please. What few simple mouse clicks am I missing?
Thanks for your attention.
As I see it in the current system, you can have 2 strategies:
1. Increase your investors population substantially before you begin a campaign to wipe out an AI characher with many islands. This way you'll have enough influence to just take them all before you give most of them (except ones you want to keep) to allies or neutral characters.
2. Long step by step war when you take one island at a time, evict it, give the permission to your allied character to settle it and then guard it from the enemy trying to resettle it until the ship of your ally comes. Meanwhile you'll have to protect your own islands and trade ships from constant attacks. With regard to cargo ships there is a simple solution to put white flags in every one of them.
I am not even at Engineers yet.
I use custom sandbox. Being a slow player, I am over 9 hours into current game now, with over 14K population, 2.5Mil in the bank, and 13k income... no engineers. Still have comparable economy and military to George and Beryl, while leaving Bente and the pirates in the dust.
They may have steamships, but they cannot match the raw power of 8 Ships-of-the-Line and six Frigates at once. When one of those squadrons rolls up... sh*t gets real.
Engineers are fussy, whiny elites that get all soggy and hard to light over a little propaganda. Can't imagine how much worse useless Investors will be. My army of workers with Artisan support could wipe the map of enemies right now.
yes, you can just delete the warehouse, but before you do it check for leftover ITEMS, not goods, but zoo animals, museum items can be there. and if you takeover AIs main island, it becomes your main island and when you destroy your warehouse there, you lose the game, so you have to first get yet another new main island, to be able to get rid of that previous one.

Wauw that sounds like a major bug
Wait, how do you know which AI's island is his/her main one??if you takeover AIs main island, it becomes your main island and when you destroy your warehouse there, you lose the game
And are you actually telling I'll have to keep it forever?? What if I don't want it?.. Like it's on the far side of the map or some other reason?
Unless you've already waged wars on AI then it will be their big and most developed island in the Old World. If there is a chance that you or another AI has already taken it then AFAIK the name of port building is different on the main island from other islands ports (can't launch Anno right now to check it).Originally Posted by akunamatataa Go to original post
