    Survival Question

So this last weekend I was bored with TD2 and missed Survival Mode. So I decided to give go retro and play some TD.

1st, I load in grab some easy gear and go hit a landmark. It was like riding a bike, until NPCs spawned in from every where. It felt a little like TD2 spawn system, where pending on where you are makes it so that they can spawn every where. So even though I cleared the area before engaging in the Landmark, it didn't matter. The NPCs seemed to just respawn and attack me from behind. So I got wiped. It made a old game interesting again.

2nd, Ok, so they added some new tricks for this old dog. This run ran better in the beginning, getting to a landmark, just like the old days. Staying hid so I can get ready and poof, OHK. The NPCs killed me without ever seeing me. I was extremely careful to make sure I didn't get seen and was extra careful because I was a little rusty. Yet their detection mechanic was full on mode.

So did they buff up this mode while I was gone or did just have a odd WTH moment, twice?

1st. Never kill NPCs to quickly, then the game simply throws more at you. If true I'm not sure but it does feel that way for me at times. Don't think they changed spawns but I can confirm that you get a lot of enemy spawns in your back somehow, even when I've walked in that area few seconds ago.

2nd. Although you can barely see where you are going in survival due to the fog, all the NPC's do not seem to have any problem spotting you. The only time that you can get close without being seen is to follow them, you can get away with that pretty easy without detection. But besides that, there is still the server-client sync that can get very bad so you think you are safe but on server there is one standing next to you. See this happen all the time when trying to ambush NPC's, they just zap to other places, or in cover when they are to close.

But in all I think you just have to re-adjust to the old game again, after few hours in game you'll get the hang of it again.

Like I said it just felt buffed compared to what I remember and it hasn't been that long ago. I used to run 4 characters a week since the mode was released. Once upon a time, I used to know what I was doing. It felt way different some how.

I last played Survival about a month ago, maybe 6 weeks tops. I didn't notice anything different then.

I just did 4 survival sessions over the last 2 days and everything has been the same for me. I love survival so I've played it a lot and have a few favorite routes. On these routes, I've ended up memorizing how many NPCs there are and their routes so I know where they are and if I've killed/avoided them all. It was still the same number of NPCs in the same spots for me. My second run yesterday I got killed by the Hunter at my extraction but I wasn't even mad. My fault for being too cocky and thinking my M60 would save me when I got too close.
