So I have been playing this game a while now and have learned to just ignore the "XXX is Leaving" and the "This Game Sucks" threads. I am having a TON of fun and have drug my 15+ little gaming group along with me. Everyone has a blast and we are enjoying the game a lot. Now not everyone is as into it as others but that is because peoples taste varies in the kind of games they like.
The game is not perfect for sure but we seldom see crashes and those , so far, have all been liked to issues outside the game. There are glitches and things I and others would like to see fixed, especially the positional audio. However, none of us have experienced an issue that makes us not want to enjoy the game.
The way I look at this game is "Shooter Meets MMO". As with all MMOs the game needs time to flesh out, add more and keep people active. With time it will gorw into a deeper and broader game, that is my hope.
The game advertises itself as an MMORPG but there is no roleplaying (R). The only role is damage. Even when a skill build is somewhat effective, it is still a damage role. So far Massive only suggests at improving skill builds; aka damage. You can say I'm being negative but there is not the kind of talk like there was in Div1 when people would figure out who provide healing, protection etc. before starting a fight. You can argue that the raid offers roles but those are more task oriented not role.
No matter how much it advertised as an Mmo no one in their right mind should have believed it, it was always gonna be an Arpg at best. What it is is an Action game with a bit of a story and a lot of killing stuff for loot. sure it has loot issues, but its a game, play it, enjoy it, or don't and move on.Originally Posted by Motomofo Go to original post
Did you get 60-80 hours out of it? then great. I got several hundred hours of amusement out of it, more than worth the cost of entry.
How would you cosplay as "damage"? I'd be interested to see what that costume looks like at the next convention.Originally Posted by Motomofo Go to original post
I see this argument with a lot of games and it is almost always from "younger" players. That is comparatively younger BTW. For us older gamers Role Play was never about the mechanics, it was about being able to feel a role as we played the game and to play the game within that role. From this perspective ANY game, well most, can have role play elements.Originally Posted by Motomofo Go to original post
For me I find it easy to play a role in this game. I have three characters that I play very different. One is a "former" military and is very goal and mission oriented. Another is a "first responder" so is always squirreling off to help people in need. The third I have yet to truly define.
Role Play at the end of the day is never about mechanics in a game but the attitude you bring and for me this game offers some nice role play options.
So it was a mistake to assume the game would have as many roles and useful gear/brand sets as Div1? I even told someone "hey if div2 is nothing more than some improvements on top of div1 plus a new story, that i'd be happy". I wasnt being unrealistic.Originally Posted by KagatoAC Go to original post
When games advertise themselves as RPGs, they aren't saying "when you play our game feel free to develop a backstory for yourself and play the game as if you are that character". What they normally are talking about are the roles you play in battle (ex DPS, Tank, Healer, Thief, etc). Div1 had those type of roles. You'd change roles or have hybrids by use of changing gear/skills/talents/etc.. Dunno if you are trolling. Div2 is at most different versions of the same role. Anyways I remember playing UO and I think the had some servers dedicated to the roleplaying you're talking about.Originally Posted by Mopar_63 Go to original post
