HI,
Just released a new map, my first in ages, to apparently universal dislike. It's called 'Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah' and I thought based on quite a novel idea of nearly all the action taking place on zip lines. It's a pretty simple plot - slide down a series of zip lines, shooting bad guys as you go, then find the hidden exit (not really too hidden as Ubisoft lights the way). If you miss you go back and climb the first 'tower' and go round again.
Now I'll admit it's not the most sophisticated of maps, but I thought quite fun on all the test runs I did. So I'm curious to get some feedback as to why it's so disliked?
Feel free to let me have both barrels!![]()
As an description hook, this sounds fantastic. Though you may want to consider additional highlighting for the exit, I can see how going through it over and over if one is having a hard time finishing might be a downside.Originally Posted by MA_FC Go to original post
A word to the wise; if you - as the designer - think a mission's difficulty or puzzle challenge is just right, it's likely to be extremely difficult for the average player.![]()
Okay, that's interesting, thanks. There is a little bug in the software in that even though all the targets are supposed to be highlighted from the beginning sometimes the little red sign above their heads disappears, even though it shouldn't, and that can make pinpointing where a target might be left a bit difficult.
As for the hidden exit it's kind of all or nothing there. If I remove the tarps the final guardians of the exit become sitting ducks. Not sure there's a good answer for that.
I found your map HERE on the Arcade website its on PS4
Might get a chance to try it tomorrow, busy in the editor right now and have some other maps in a queue to try but will get around to it.
I played the map, the 1st go I went down each zipline and made it to the bottom but got zero kills.
Unsure if you knew but pushing forward or back on the analogue stick will increase or decrease your speed while using the zipline, as I was getting shot at I decided to go fast.
Got to the bottom then noticed the quad, I couldn't see a way back up and almost quit but on driving around noticed the grapple points - it takes a long long time to grapple back up (some might not have the patience) you could always look at adding in teleport scripts to teleport the player back up.
So at the top I got more ammo and decided to go slower and backwards, got one kill then ran out of ammo so that was the end for me I dropped off the zipline to my death.
I would give a choice in adding maybe 2 more weapons, have a pistol and something else (small hand weapons work on ziplines)
It's a tough map due to the enemies been protected from one side but if it were too easy people would complete it to quick.
Thanks for that. I go down backward and can pretty much kill them all with one run, but it does help to memorise which side they're going to be going past you on so that you can be ready. I've tried both full auto and single shot with the Uzi and the game's auto aim almost makes it too easy. You really can't try and shoot them from the side or front as you're passed them before you can take aim.
I think I'll add grapples to each stack so that you don't have to do the whole run. I'll also add some more weapon loadouts. I'll look into the teleport but I think they're one shot things so you couldn't keep going round and round.
Might also add infinite ammo if you're running out too soon.
Okay, so I added more weapons options (all side-arms as they're the only ones you can use on a zip line). I made the return to the top more obvious and added three beam-me-to-the-top points, as well as adding a whole lot more ammo to the various dumps. I even put up a sign saying to go down backwards.
And still no one appears to like it much - heh heh heh. Ah well, I still like it.![]()
