The so-called open world when you are caught in a mandated trap and mandated 'trials'. I'm doing Cull again after stopping a 'loot' truck option.
I wrote Ubisoft and told them they are losing fans, losing business, and future business with POOR GARBAGE mandated trials that many of us would avoid and NOT buy the game if we knew there wasn't a choice in the matter. Can't load a manual save -- not even ONE manual save slot.
So I'm heading unto another game for now. Unbelievable garbage that IS NOT fun!
I agree they're obnoxious and they pop up at inconvenient times. I can be driving, flying, or even at a base surrounded by resistance fighters and guns for hire but suddenly I pass out and have to go sacrifice the weak.
If I'm not in the mood for it or I keep being unlucky I'll usually go play something else then start fresh on it another night. But I agree with the OP that it's a very obnoxious game mechanic to have forced on you. Sometimes I just go play the arcade instead when I'm getting annoyed.
The biggest problem with the trials and forced captures is that the player will feel punished for doing too much in one region. Most of the time chaos caused by wandering players adds up the chance of randomly spawning inside a bunker room captured or in some hallucination by Faith, takes away from the pace of the game and makes it feel very slow.

1) Doing a mission for Kim(flying to take out fuel trucks), crash the plane(yeah, not paying attention to it enough) and instead of going to get another plane, get pulled into John's second bunker mission.....AND have to listen to Kim talk about the mission after every reload and scene change.....
2) Clear an outpost in Faith's area and get pulled into the Bliss before you can even explore the new outpost fully.....or sometimes even visit the store.
3) Land a chopper so my son can fly it out to the YES sign, and a truck roars up(out in the middle of the Forest almost to the sign) and get sucked into the John, first capture scene...
4) Standing in the middle of an outpost and get hit with Jacobs magic arrow...captured, even though allies are ALL AROUND ME.
5) Just wanting to run around with my son taking outposts and doing fun stuff, and have to sit though a stupid cutscene and scripted encounter instead of doing what we really wanted to do...
Luckily we are pretty good at them, as we like the gameplay...just wish there was a way to turn the story off so we could skip the BS and play the fun parts. Currently we are doing an Infamous no health upgrade with Bows, and Pistols...two holsters limited. Getting tutorial truck scene without having Health upgrades on Infamous was .....interesting to say the least....
