Why do you need several tons of iron and wood to slightly upgrade a simple sword?

What "Einstein" ever came with this idea? The Excel guy from the finance department, to force people to buy crates of resources for real money?

Ever since Ubisoft started implemented those fraudulent lootbox schemes into their games, the quality and appeal of their titles plummeted.

I am still trying to finish Odyssey, but it's my last AC title. Well done, devs, your greed have managed to absolutely destroy the game with uninteresting, filler gameplay.

Resource crates give very little boost to your economy from mid game. Have you heard about dismantling gear? Also the further you progress with the game the more resources you loot and get back from dismantling gear.
They could reduce the amount to upgrade a sword from lvl80 to lvl99 to cost only 200 each. But then you would probably loot much less from every source to balance it out.

It's not fraudulent, it's optional. Microtransactions divide people, but fortunately this game can be played, enjoyed and finished without spending a single penny from your wallet. It's there if you want to get something extra (skins, gear, treasure maps etc.) but if you don't, you are not forced to spend money.

I think the resource crates in the helix store should be removed. They have no real value at all. But nobody is forcing you to buy them. Maybe you have some spare helix credits burning a hole in your pocket, don't buy them, they won't help you. Instead find a nearby fort, call Phobos, avoid the road, travel as the crow flies looting all the way, clear the fort, loot everything & you'll have earned tons more resources than the store boxes. Treasure maps are useful, some players want to find all treasure by exploring. But I would do 3-4 sessions exploring & doing quests as normal, then spend a session ticking off treasure on the map, & travelling from 1 tablet to the next, you'll discover new locations anyway, killing wild animals & looting as you go, you will find all the resources you need to upgrade your simple sword.

Exactly. And do all the locations with unfinished objectives and with a ? mark. Go from region to region, from one location to another in a pattern so you will minimize the unnecessary travelling back and forth. This way at least you will discover new locations that are not marked on the map, as some only appear if you get in a 300-400m distance.
After you finished a region go to the blacksmith and sell/dismantle what you don't need. I dismantled every 3rd-4th region and each time it was 3+ million drachmae and a couple ten thousand resources each (except obsidian and gems).

Last but not least, loot everything you see. I even jump off a cliff to go after a mercenary that died and fell off. You never know he may has that gear you've been looking for weeks.
That's what i done twice with both of my lvl99 saves.... took about 30-40 hrs/character to finish everything though.
You will be swimming in drachmae and resources after that.
