I hate, HATE that this is my first post. I did not want to post this and I was even happy to see POG get the first win. I saw the other thread but this one isn't going to be about the players but more about what they represent.
As someone with a disability it's never an easy road and ableism is a growing trend amongst younger generations so it was very surprising to see a tweet by POG leader and well known Youtuber MarcoStyles making a mockery of disabled people. I don't care about jokes - Pewdiepie thought making Nazi jokes was funny at one point and Disney cut him loose over "a joke."
This isn't about being some sensitive snowflake or being offended, it's about respect and it would seem that POG and their member have very little for the community, the game, and it's players. I think it's time we send a message because if they are immortalized in the White House, this is saying that Ubisoft and Massive accept this type of joke as okay. Bigotry, racism, and discrimination are not okay. Giving them a place in the White House is saying that it's cool to hate on groups as long as you say it's a meme or a joke. It's not a joke it's our lives and some of us live this way day in and day out. Would this be any different if he posted a picture of a black guy, a woman, a gay man or another minority? Maybe a Mexican with a wall in front of him would have been hilarious too. Maybe it would have been funny as an MS joke and that would be taken a bit more seriously since that would be directed at an employee... either way, it was disrespectful and their clan thought it was hilarious.
So with that said - I would say it was just Marco, but with so many of his clan mates commenting on how funny it was, this need to be given to the next group or even a plaque that says something like "The First Raid group to finish gave up their right so that others may be immortalized in this halls. This plaque stands as a reminder that discrimination of any kind isn't tolerated. Ignorance breeds intolerance."
I don't really know but I personally took that as a direct attack on the disabled community.

Here's the petition. Personally, If any of their named go in the White House I will make sure that any one who listens be it Kotaku, IGN or even the ACLU knows that Ubisoft, Massive and the likes supports this type of bigotry and willful ignorance. God bless America.
These are all separate things.. they're not being awarded for making a joke... Their being awarded for their in game feat.
Pewds has been more successful since breaking away from Disney so that doesn't work.
So because someone said something you don't like..and remember. That's exactly what this is.. they should be stripped of their achievements?
I'm not offended by the joke.. and I think they should be awarded for what they did.
See how that works?
There are better ways of expressing the frustrations of console players for doing the raid. A more clever person could have expressed that. However, this may fit into the category of satire. Not meant to harm rather to expose the ridiculous nature of the given task. Though, perhaps, he may just well be a d^ck. That is up to Zeus to decide.
I don't think being disabled is funny and I do draw SSD btw... I thought the joke was funny though.Originally Posted by WheelednDealed Go to original post
People need to stop taking everything personally. Jokes are just jokes and that doesn't make me a bigot.
And what do you call yourself when you wish disabilities on others? So yeah... gtfo indeed.
I think you quoted the wrong person?Originally Posted by Pepsi82x Go to original post
Given the poster and the content, it was totally malicious. A direct jab at the console community, meant to be hateful and hurtful. I'd like to see him clear it on console.Originally Posted by makerofthings Go to original post
Satire would have been something like a comparison. Two people with disabilities approach the stair case. One in a wheel chair called console, another called PC. Expect that they have different styles of chairs, with PC having a specialty chair made for stairs. They also would have like "Hey Ubi/Massive, what gives?"
This points out that there are glaring differences in hardware, yet the same obstacle was placed before each.
Have you contacted Ubisoft directly and complained or just mouthed off here in the forums and made efforts to support your cause
I’m disabled and I found the joke post funny, I guess were all different.
If you’re unhappy with something that’s upset you then that’s fine but do something about it yourself, don’t try and spread hate to better your own cause

Everyone is indeed different, which is why it's always better to err on the side of caution. Then again, others obviously disagree and throw caution to the wind.
