What happened to the tank, the healer, the damage dealer?

Sounds to me like the demolitionist was supposed to be the tank, the specialist the healer, and the sharpshooter was the damage dealer. They really messed this up.

Edit: also having puzzles that the whole community worked on together would have been fun. I know the internet works fast and is absurdly hard to stump, but it would be fun. The devs tries but their hunter puzzle was cracked during the beta.

The 'holy trinity' is not Massives goal if I recall correctly: there will be more specializations added later on.

    What is then?

I specifically even started a thread asking what exactly it is that makes a Raid a Raid?

Atm this looks like a heroic mission scaled for 8-man difficulty.

Didn’t they say they were inspired by WoW raiding? Why even call this a raid when the only role to lay is damage dealer?

If you want to play a role in TD, it is not the usual holy trinity type role. It is more of a combat role. Very high level and in theory, but you got:
    LMGs suppressing enemies (support fire).
Then long/mid/short range damage dealers: long range takes out enemy support fire/other long range enemies; mid/short range flank suppressed enemies.
Then you have a medic, which has some gadgets he could use, but mostly has to run to the downed player and "fix" them.

Of course, that doesn't mean the game is balanced for it, since you pretty much can get a squad using nothing but AR's and personal heals to finish all the content.

It’s just a glorified incursion with the name raid tbh. We went through it, but my team just basically said F this. They don’t even want to attempt it again. I might bring it up to them and see what happens. If I can actually get anyone to focus and keep task which seems kinda difficult as I feel I’m just talking to myself.

I can't believe we even entertain the idea of raids and roles in a shooter. Is Borderlands the only looter shooter where you can just shoot and loot?

A lot of games push DPS and glass cannon builds. This is no surprise.

    what happened to them?

they became a hybrid called 3/7/7 which has excellent self healing, self revive, top damage, and it can face tank too: they get it all in one package.

so ya, build diversity is non-existant if there is builds like this: why run anything else?

Good question. There's no balance so far, everyones going full blown DPS build. Skill builds sort of work, but not on higher difficulties. Tank builds don't work at all. So at the moment just different types of damage dealing.
