    Skull & Bones Delayed

I'm sure Borghal or Lucipus or someone will make an official post about this in the News and Announcements sub-forum, but since they haven't yet, I get to post this here anyway:

Skull & Bones has been officially delayed (again). Per Ubisoft's earnings report that was released today, this delay will push S&B beyond the April 2019 – March 2020 fiscal year. There is no current / new timeframe for release, so all we know at this point is "Sometime later than March 2020."

Additionally, Skull & Bones will not be appearing at E3 2019 this year.

Obviously this is kind of a bummer for those of us following the game (and especially those of us who have been following it since it was originally announced almost two years ago), but I think it's important to look at the positives.

    1. It's better to get a polished, finished game in 2020, or 2021, or 2024, or whatever, than it is to get another Anthem situation with a slapdash, unfinished mess that's released too early.

    2. We don't know why the game has been delayed. Maybe it's been delayed to focus on polishing up the current game concept. Maybe it's been delayed to overhaul the concept entirely. Maybe all you jokers will finally get land exploration and combat (that's a "Meh" for me, but hey, anything's possible). Whatever the reason, it's clear that the developers' focus is on providing a complete game that properly realizes its own vision, rather than cutting corners for the sake of getting a product out the door before it's ready.

    3. There are a ton of excellent games out there or on the near horizon that are also fully deserving of being played and enjoyed. Now they have one less competitor. Get out there an enjoy a game you might not have tried because you were waiting for Skull & Bones!

    Happy sailing, buccaneers.

I hope its delayed so its is a more complete Pirate RPG and not just a ship based shooter. To me, walking around towns, raiding ports, ship boarding, building your crew and fleet is a big part of what a Pirate game is to me.

I been saying this / guessed this before it was even announced in the fiscal accounts of Ubisoft. I believe my post about 1-2 months ago said this too.

Ye I gotten fairly good at guessing Ubisoft and their debacals. As I predicted before even AC:OD that it was going to be a pile of rolling dog crap. And it was hahah. Let’s hope Skull and Bones does better, and does not fall down the same trap

Honestly at this point I’m just waiting for them to add on foot exploration and missions and change the name to the latest AC game/clone, seeing that what people want.

woooow holy **** it got delayed to next year again? damn...well I hope its worth it (like adding on foot open world like in black flag) and manual boarding fighting with swords and guns and underwater diving, etc. etc. I think ubisoft finally saw all the attacks they have been getting from pretty much the majority of people who wanted to have all these features that I just mentioned in the game so I really hope they are finally working on it

Not exactly. There is no release date / window / time-frame currently, just that it's delayed. Delayed to next year? Maybe. Delayed to 2021? Maybe. Delayed to 2024? Maybe. Basically, it's gone from "2019" to "The rest of time that occurs after 2019, but nothing more specific than that."

More or less, yeah. I don't know that they've explicitly said "later than March 2020," but definitely "Not 2019, and nothing more specific beyond that."

Given the timing and the apparent nature of the delay, I don't think there's any danger of the game releasing between December 31, 2019 and March 31, 2020, though, so either way I'd say that's off the table.

My personal best-case-scenario guess at a release date is Q1 2021 right now, simply because Ubisoft likes to release big games-as-service products in Q1 of each calendar year (which also happens to be Q4 of their fiscal year, so they get a nice, big, year-end revenue boost). That said, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is releasing in October, so it could release as early as Q4 2020, but I would be shocked to see a date earlier than that, and wouldn't be surprised if it runs longer than Q1 2021.

Really, at this point, anything is just speculation, and there's not really anything we can do about it until information starts coming down the pipe from the development team. So right now we're best served by just kicking back and relaxing. Info will come when it's ready to come. The game will come when it's ready to come.

I actually prefer it this way. The AC title has now become an RPG. It is was people now expect from the isp. But if it’s not “Assassins Creed” they can focus on proper combat system like in the original games. And greatly improve it, without having to hold on the expectations of old AC fans and upsetting the new fans.

There fore it can be the BETTER AC game without having the publishing Bs that comes with an established lore and fan base.
—> aka we can now fully get our dream Black Flag. And I feel like they now know this.

It is why they said “oh **** man” and started to add this features- hence the cloak and dagger delay to add this features. And I M fine with this. Give the game another 2-3 years. That way it is a polished master piece.

And we will be happy the old AC fans, and the new fans that will join the game.

It’s an elegant solution to a complex issue of fan bases of old vs new
