The question however is if it's the best approach for the challenge versus the campaign mission (especially for a re-play due to the door glitch).

Personally, I never order my team to open fire. I want them to play as quietly as I do. So I will use sync shot, when neccesary, and take out as many NPC'sas I can, on my own. I don't find it fun to just sitting back and letting the AI and rebels, do all the killing. that's not why i bought the game. And if I screw up, it will be my fault, but as soon as the enemy starts shooting, the AI will automatically return fire, and have bailed me out of some sticky situations.

i wish that I could enter various formations, knowing that the AI would quietly kill any targets of opportunity, within their assigned sectors, but they aren't that smart. So you have to work with what we have. that was why I was hoping that in a new game that they would improve the AI, so that when you order them to follow you, it gives you the possible formation to use,

Then you can set various ROE, like in the SWAT series, where the AI will shoot on sight, return fire only, or use non - lethal weapons.

The rebels should also have had incremental skill increases such as healing the team and themselves. With all the medical supply we obtain for them, you'd think we'd have them up to speed on basic first aid.

You don't really address the points in your title. You don't say how you've figured out why the AI sucks, you just seem to have worked out, at last, that they will respond in a way that is relative to your respective locations and to where you tell them to fire. With a drone where it's focussed and without a drone where you're facing. Sometimes the AI must wonder just who is in control of them.

Neither do you explain why Breakpoint does it right, but I'd be interested in your view on that. There are plenty of threads on the topic in the Breakpoint forum.
Relax Master Yoda, try not to pop a vein, its not like they will ever fix this regardless of whether you or I are right... I mean, of course you will be always right since you have your BFF ears, hence, the awesome new GR proper experience we will be having in October.

After next week, will it be a re-cycle again of the original set of daily challenges I wonder.
Ding, Ding, Ding... I started laughing when I saw this in todays daily challenges

I am with you 100% but, You are missing the point though, the daily mission was about NOT being visually detected so you have to either snipe the few you can before they get alerted and come at you or get your teammates and the rebels to get rid of them to finish the mission. It is not my fault that whomever is in charge of putting the missions out has no idea that what we are playing is a shooter game and not an action movie scene.

Oh and by the way, on a different not but funny nonetheless situation... I call for rebel support near the sport car and they spawn outside the hacienda entrance where there is normally a rally truck and weaponized 4 door truck. Well out of the group of rebels that spawn, only 2 or 3 get to the pointed marker, the other phuckers get on the 4 door truck and run away with it

Of course first I got angry but the next few times I couldn't do anything but laugh

of course they stole the truck. How else do you think they keep their stockpile of vehicles topped up, just in case we need to drop a truck into a river, or the roof of a building, or something. They're rebels, not Ford motors.

and today in my version of Wildlands the rebels not only manned the truck, they starting hosing some of the bad guys with the mini. They then turned and headed back up the road towards the entry checkpoint. Why? Well, Unidad had spawned, heading towards the hacienda and the rebels also engaged those bad guys,

    I'd say, "well done!"

Closing this thread as the post was meant to troll a few other users, per what OP said.
