I’m wondering if the telemetry is what screwed us on BreakPoint having no AI?
I wonder if after enabling the option to disable the AI in Wildlands, millions of active players explored that option and many played that way extensively after that leading them to believe the AI team wasn’t utilized much.
I’ve certainly done a couple campaign play throughs as a lone wolf since the option was available.
I’m guessing the decision to not include an AI Team in BreakPoint was actually made much earlier but maybe the telemetry confirmed their hypothesis.
If there’s any truth to this, I expect one thing they overlooked is that by the time the option became available, most people had been playing for so long the added challenge was welcome. Or it was s novelty. When in fact, almost everyone uses the AI for their first few play throughs.
I wonder if the telemetry said one thing and the vocal player base is saying something very different.

Options... that’s all anybody wants.
But yeah — I play exclusively without the Team AI.
At best, they’re overpowered, at worst they sit there getting shot not returning fire, for reasons I don’t think even the devs know why..
Friendly AI, is just a really difficult thing to do.
Otherwise there would be shining examples we could point to.
Open world is difficult as well especially with all the pathfinding issues and what not.
Best friendly AI I’ve seen that you had control of, where it just worked —
FREEDOM FIGHTERS - simplicity is key to success. And it just worked.
Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 - Again linear levels... simple.
Operation Flashpoint — had almost RTS level of control — but bit fiddly really.
When not in coop, I was soloing it. All the way through GM.
Unless there's a huge spectrum shift in Ubi, it doesn't look like we're getting anything like GRO ever again. Hopefully other studios will step up, similarly to Void Interactive. Who knows, maybe BI hits a breakthrough and Arma becomes a streamlined beast of a tac.shooter. Maybe someone will build a realistic AI with machine learning. I don't believe tactical shooters are history though.
Ditto. I actually prefer it. It’s a more hardcore experience.Originally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
