Feels like a betrayal... really does.
When I consider what a great and loyal community GR Wildlands has.
How often folks have requested a greater focus on singleplayer.
BREAKPOINT is rapidly turning into a real screw you to the fan base.
Learning more details about BREAKPOINT — it’s really dashed my faith in the franchise and Ubisoft. I was super excited initially...
So whats the deal Ubisoft?
We already have the Division 1&2... You need another?
- BREAKPOINT IS ONLINE ONLY **
What the hell? Seriously?!
Why does it need to be online only??
That’s a real problem for me.
- IT HAS A CLASS SYSTEM.
The class system is straight out of any MP game design, similar to The Division.
WITH SET LOAD OUTS AND WEAPON AND GEAR RESTRICTIONS, BETWEEN CLASSES. Which makes sense — when you play the game Coop, but NOT when played solo.
It’s becoming more obvious that BREAKPOINT is meant to be played not in singleplayer, but coop, or in PVP.
Solo is NOT the focus. They’ve even admitted the game isn’t even balanced for solo play on harder difficulties.
Online only is the final straw for me....
And it’s sad too be honest. I’ve always enjoyed Ubisoft games. A lot of the time they make games I wanna play.
It’s been hard not to notice Ubisoft games in recent times obviously moving toward one central model. It’s been hard not to wince seeing some great franchises begin to be designed around corporate monetisation and longevity. Keeping players playing for longer, ‘keep them in the Casino’ for longer so to speak.
It’s been hard to watch singleplayer only franchises be bastardised to suit the corporate execs greed. Everything is just going MP... urrrrghhhh.
What’s others thoughts?
Online ONLY is a deal breaker for me.
I’ve never bought an online only game.
Call me crazy but I don’t like the idea of dropping £60 on a game that I can’t play if my connection goes down!
Sad...
I don’t get the big deal — people play offline, but still play online enough to become potential customers of new content...?
I don’t get the logic of wanting to make a game always online..? And wanting to ditch the option of playing offline.?
Does that offline play honestly hurt there potential profits that much?
To me it's obvious why, and none of what I'm going to tell you are good, but rather greedy reasons.Originally Posted by LaMOi Go to original post
1. Online only games never get cracked. The Division 1 is 3 yrs old and no one's cracked it. No crack, no piracy.
2. Online players that compare their clothes, gear, and weapons, are suckers for micro transactions.
3. Games as a Service is a long term business model. That combined with their going to a Silent Key Activation model, where no keys will be sold separately, means GaaS titles will stay high priced a long time.
In short, it has zero to do with game design or loyalty to the fanbase. It's purely about maximizing how much they take in for how much they spend. It should be no surprise Ubi has fallen to becoming on par with EA as far as a total disregard for their fanbase. After all, the crappy FairFight anticheat, which they still use in TD1, is mostly only used by them and EA.
Welcome to modern gaming, now that Ubi is one of the biggest dev/pub teams in the world, they think they can get away with putting out crap product and get max profits from you.
After Ubi said that The Crew will be an always online game I expected them to continue with the online-only trend. Unfortunately they did. The Crew 2 is online only and Breakpoint will be online only too. Ok, for The Crew I can understand it because the map is massive and being alone in such a big map would feel strange, but they still had many races locked behind co-op. The Crew 2 isn't as bad as the first though since all races are open for lone players too. The downside of being always online is that some idiots might crash into you on purpose when you are stopped or they come near you and start bragging about how they have a better car/bike than yours. Not to mention the unstable servers that will prevent you from accessing the game for half a day or even more.
