So I have been with this game since the Alpha and have seen a great (though unstable) game where skill, good defense and focus were what you needed to play this game.
Even in 4 vs 4 modes most of the time it was quite fair, with the old revenge system etc. The Art of Battle system required you to fight with care and attention.
Now it has turned into some spammy, unblockable, hyper armored gankfest where there is simply no defense possible with more than 1 person on you and each match is basicly about hoping your teammates stay with you as well or otherwise you are screwed.
Basicly the game isn't any fun anymore for me.
This is not cause I'm losing a lot or anything, in fact the new hero Hitokiri is basicly a walking "I WIN" button, and the new Raider is even worse.
You can basicly win with your eyes closed. But I can see this game going down slope with each update. With the team so focused on breaking the defensive meta that in the end there is almost no reason or even possibility to defend.
I know the reason is changing the defensive meta, however changing it into spam attack kill mode was not why I started playing this game.
Back then during a Dominion game getting 6-10 kills was quite a feat. Today it's almost like a Hero based FPS shooter, with games running up to 18-25 kills per match. Breach mode even higher than that.
All the best to people still enjoying this game, it has been my go to game for almost 3 years (including alpha en beta's), playing almost every evening.
But to me it's just not fun anymore.
The game is going way too frenzy imo.....Ubi is trying to follow the tendency of games like MK, Injustice, DB fighterZ, etc etc. of smashing and spamming attacks and the problem is that those are fighting games in 2D with only two defense positions....but in FH we have three defense positions, faints, soft faints, unblockable attacks, super armor...and it is too hard to react to all that now that they are adding light attacks of 400ms and 500ms.
A long time ago people complained that duels were too slow, where people were playing like if it was a chess game...but you know? I liked those times....I always thought that duels were for tactical parties...if you wanted a rush game dominio was always an option....
Now we have rush in duels and impossible situations in dominio.......I still love the game, but I stay in PvAI because PvP is broken

I agree with you're initial statement. But I'd like to add to what I think the direct problem lies.
In mid to high level play of DBFZ you have to be ever mindful of 4 directions you have to block. You need to be prepared to defend yourself *SEVEN*different ways while on the ground & *FIVE* ways while in the air. If you consider higher level stagger pressure & air to ground scramble situations, that's *NINE+* different ways while on the ground & *SIX+* ways in the air.
The main 2 differences between FH & DBFZ, excluding one being 2D & the other 3D ... Is that DBFZ also gives players way more defensive options than FH. There's things like: Reflect, Special moves & level 1/3 Supers with invulnerability on start up (THAT ARE EXTREMELY PUNISHABLE ON BLOCK), Sparking, DP Assists, Vanish, Empty Vanish, Air Dashes, Super Dash, Counters etc.
The second is DBFZ running at a locked 60 FPS... all of the time. The online is terrible, but the FPS is crisp
FH 2 or whatever big update next, definitely should look into integrating a meter system. One that adds a nice boon of defensive options. This is all just my opinion.
