First off, I already pre-ordered Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, ultimate edition.
I'm only saying that because, I'm putting it out there that I'm a believer that they will listen to the feedback, *gulp* and continued feedback about AI teammates *gulp*, and I have been a contributing fan of Ghost Recon: Wildlands. They have my money.
Playing GR:W hit me with the rose tinted nostalgia bug that was SOCOM 2, the game I have been longing to re-experience, which is why I'm nearly over 1600 hrs in GR:W. It really hit that nostalgia funnybone hard. A TPV tactical/tacticool shooter with an AI squad doing spec ops things like spec ops soldiers would do.
Anyone recall the fall of SOCOM?
Slowly but surely, and then definitely. After SOCOM 2 was SOCOM 3, Combined Assault, PS3 came out with Confrontation a PVP only game. They were pumping out games just to pump out games due to the success of SOCOM 2. People were still playing SOCOM 2 on PS2 despite there being SOCOM: Confrontation on PS3. When PS4 came out with SOCOM 4 which was unfortunately released during that time when the PS network was hacked, SOCOM 4, the now TPV action adventure shooter where you go to SE Asia and fight elite military PMCs, a story of comrade betrayal and player sacrifice with a bunch of Hollywood military tech stuff. Shortly after Zipper fell under. In interviews they were supposedly pushed by investors to keep pumping out product year after year and then their vision was redirected to assimilate and follow the blueprint of the modern shooter genre at the time which was Call of Duty.
IDK, the parallel is uncanny. I do not want Ghost Recon: Breakpoint to fail, but dang deja vu. Especially going from tactical/tacticool shooter to "the now TPV action adventure shooter where you go to SE Asia and fight elite military PMCs, a story of comrade betrayal and player sacrifice with a bunch of Hollywood military tech stuff.
Well not Asia, but SE Pacific... Instead of modern military shooter, it's modern action adventure RPG.
