Hello everybody, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my idea. It is known that Vanguards, as supposed to be easily playing with attack directions, are quite hard to design. My idea is Holy Persecutor - A knight wielding a mace in one hand, and a parrying dagger in the other one.
Lore: Before they became known as Holy Persecutors, they were usual priests. With the comming of Apollyon and war, some priests implied, that god will never allow so many fallen, so many blood spilled and so many lives wasted. They deserted from holy paths and created their own, secretive legion. As the war spreaded, one day it came knocking on their doors as well. Legend it says, that they made a promise to gods, to stop this bloody madness, and in return, gods grant them holy strength to do so.
Visuals/Basic appearance:
White cape covers the eyes, that is connected to a short white cloak, somewhere to a middle of their backs long. A golden chain with a cross on the neck. Metal three-piece shoulderguards from both sides. Chain armor leading from neck, to shoulderguards, to a leather belt, covered in cloth in the chest area. Standards will be replaced by a robe skirt, also in white colour, covering metal boots. The hand with a mace stays bare, the hand with a parrying dager hidden in a heavy Iron gauntlet.
Moves:
Sight of Allfather: Light, Heavy, Heavy
Allmighty wrath: Heavy, Heavy
Blessed path: Heavy, Light
Illuminated path: Heavy, Light, Heavy
Enlightened trick: Heavy, light immediately after (Heavy is soft-cancelled to a light from opposite direction of side attack. If used on top attack Heavy instead transforms to trap. If trap is blocked or parried, Holy Persecutor leads an opposing weapon aside with dagger, hitting your opponent with the fist of iron gauntlet leaving your opponent vulnerable to a guaranteed top light and slightly knocking them back. If an enemy hits the wall or an obstackle with a knockback, side heavy is guaranteed instead.)
Confusing light:Charged side Light (Side lights are quite slow, therefore easily parryable. If you hold LMB, the light attack transforms into a special counterattack with the same speed as light attack. When this attack is parried, Holy Persecutor throws opposing weapon aside with the dagger, grabbing her enemy and hitting it with a knee in the head, that stuns enemies, guranteeing a top light. While light is charged, attack deals no damage to opponent and Holy Persecutor is vulnerable to light attacks or GB)
Holy punishment: Parry, MMB (After parrying an attack, Holy Persecutor swiftly kicks opponent, draining opponents stamina a little and knock them back.)
Excaecatio Ictos: Random dash (W,A,S,D + Space)+ MMB (Similar to gladiator shield bash while dashing, Holy Persecutor dodges an attack with a punch of iron gauntlet. Hitting an enemy leaves an opener for your own combo and drains stamina from opponent.)
Excaecatio Pressura: Random dash + charged MMB (When enemy faints attack, they can dodge Excaecatio Ictos and get a guaranteed GB on you. If you hold MMB, Holy Persecutor shows the beggining of charging of Excaecatio Ictos, but lands it after her dash ends. This punch hits enemies even stronger, stunning enemy and knocking them back.)
Broken Guard: Charged MMB (Gaining from passive ability "Holy grace" requires an enemy to be on ground or hit by wall. Holy Pesecutor can delay her Guard Break, making it harder for opponents to counter it.)
Holy Cross: Zone attack (Heavy+light)(Holy Persecutor strikes quickly from a down left corner with her mace, doing an overhead loop, continuing with a next strike leading to a down right corner. Second attack can be fainted.)
Specials
Holy Grace: Passive ability. Each attack landed on enemy that is on ground or pressed against the wall leeches Health from an opponent
Her first light attacks from sides are made with a dagger, they are 600ms, and have superarmor-therefore are uninterruptable when suffering damage.
Her top light attacks are 400ms and have counterattack, same as wardens top light "crushing counterstrike" that inflicts medium damage and leeches health from enemies
Her side heavy attacks are 800ms, Her top heavy attack is 1000ms and is unblockable, able to be soft-fainted to a GB
Her second side heavy cannot be dodged
Her second light attack is uninterruptable (Combo will not be interrupted when this attack will be simply blocked)
Characteristic Feats:
Prayer: Holy Persecutor prays for a chosen ally, giving him slight health regeneration for 5 seconds
Cursed Enlightment: Holy Persecutor curses an enemy. That enemy slowly loses movment speed for a duration of 5 seconds, and the ally closest to a cursed opponent gains a slight movement speed buff for 5 seconds.
Duelists Blessing (Passive) Cofusing light now deals minor damage when missed, blocking a punish. When it hits, Confusing light knocks back enemies as well.
God's Champion After a short, 2 second delay, Holy Pesecutor lays blessing on her allies, healing them for half of their maximum health, wherever they are. Can be interrupted by damage or GB
Style:
If you are a fan of heroes able to spam attacks, this is not for you. Holy persecutor is a manner of sacrifice. Risking her Health while Confusing light and trading damage with her side lights for a chance to start her own combo. In need of healing her own wounds while dealing damage to enemies, she will be able to stand her ground and hold certain areas. In duels she will depend on enemy cornering or draining stamina quickly to be able to deal higher amounts of damage while healing herself. I would say, that she will not be that hard to play and in my mind, she will be well balanced in defence and attack alike, as Vanguards should be.
That is it for now. If my idea will be supported, I will gladly add execution ideas, secondary feats, her battlecries and other details. I'd love to see your feedback, your criticism or your ideas for improvement. Signed, Argas![]()
I am Mysterieizer, my job is to judge theories and ideas across internet. Now, For Honor is one of my favorite games. This idea is fit to the game, not so much to lore, sadly so, the system of her combat I kind of can imagine, but I'd say it is far too complicated for a Vanguard class. I wouldn't mind that. The game would get a bit spicier with Hard-to-play Vanguards, but I can as well imagine perfect community reaction to hard Vanguard. You see, most of the community would immediately cry for rework of delayed guardbreaks and so on, but I do not predict this character to be OP in the game. It would be fore fineschmackers, professionals. It does need a bit of work here or there, but if I may say so, this is what Ubisoft should definitely consider adding in next year, since there were no reveals of new heroes on E3 anyways.
