What would be the best way to keep players busy?

Ok, put yourself in the devs shoes. The most dedicated players consume content faster than you can make it. You need time to balance the game because you just released WT5 and Tidal Basin and want to make sure all things are perfect before you add the 8 player raid and more gear sets. Some are already bored of dailies as we can see form the forum.

My idea is to add little weekly side missions that give you a clue to a narrative. Get to know a little more about Wyvern, Schaffer, and Mantis. Maybe introduce the agents from the comic who’s clothes are in the Ubisoft club and statues are in the collectors edition of the game. Even meaningless little quests to save people from settlements. Rewards can be a backpack token or a faction key. As for myself just doing the dailies is spending a lot of time on the game. Takes me 2 or 3 hours to finish all 3.

How about a quest line or project that takes weeks or more to complete, but rewards you with a piece of high rolled gear you actually want/need and is a upgrade for you? And I don't mean time-gated, I mean it actually takes a lot of work to get it and keeps you busy.

Hmmmm ... that assumes the game can figure out what you need. Maybe 3 possible rewards and you pick the one that best suits you? I’m more into lore and cosmetics are not important to me, but make good enough rewards without upsetting balance. Maybe a little map that points to where some collectibles are? Don’t make me go to YouTube for that.

You do nothing. Those people will return when the raid drops and will be the first to complete it and the first to complain that there is no content to do. Unpleasable.

Hahaha! Maybe. Can imagine it must be frustrating trying to create a build when you know the game is still in flux and changes are being made. I won’t even bother, as long as my character is good enough to hold their own in challenging I am happy. I mean not be a liability to my team.

I hate youtube, it ruins games. But as for my idea, maybe just pick a gear slot and stat, and you get a high rolled item you can use to transfer the talent from. Honestly, to keep me interested the game really needs to offer me a way to better my character and achieve my "perfect" build, regardless of how long that may take. I just want to know what I am working on and how I can achieve it.

The side missions and other ideas are good too and fun for killing time, I generally enjoy those and could totally be incorporated into my idea as well. But if I feel my character has become stagnant, I kinda lose interest. And no matter how much new content you toss out there, it will be consumed in minutes or hours. Long term goals and projects with real rewards, will definitely keep people playing. Heck, even a long term project that rewards a rare outfit or bling for the folks interested in that would be cool as well.

Basically, there are lots of great ideas, your included that could keep players engaged. Ubi just needs to get out of the mindset that everyone needs to be able to do and get everything in a couple play sessions. The fact that players can walk challenging and heroic already seems really dumb to me, that should have taken a really long time to achieve and something that you had to work for by optimizing your build over time and working with other players, not just toss on any old gear and go do the day its released.

Making new gs515 from 450 in a months time with every instance addition to the game is waste of time from players look .I have the same feeling now while waiting for Tidal when 450 ..no need to fine tune anything at the current state of the game as gs will be 515 soon why bother running same places over and over again ? if I get a god roll 500 weapon what will it be good for when there will be 515 weapon and I cant even upgrade my rifle ..Not even touching the game for a ouple of days ..just logged to say hello to clan after maintanance ,even clan is empty ..the clan easily have a gold clan cache everytime barely has a silver cache ....
The game developers is killing thier own game with stupid decisons according to me ... I was playing full speed and enjoying every moment (390hrs) a:the loot is everything in this game to rech the best tuning and the hardwork for that is the motive .Yet you change the gs and make loot irrevelant in a very short time just makes me loose interest to the game ,I mean cant motivate my self to get the best 500 weapon that will be junk in upcoming patch ...Same goes for gear also in a way ....

    Bad bad decisons from developers...

You can't fix the game with content, that will never keep people playing. The only thing that keeps people playing is loot, the constant upgrading of gear. So the main problem is that the looter aspect doesn't work and nothing is done to that on the PTS, so take a guess how long the raid will keep people entertained. TD2 can't really go the path diablo and many other games go with constantly harder content, as that doesn't work in the setting i feel. But instead of going with an approach where you can recal an item nearly any way you want, they have it so restrictive that it barely helps. Together with the RNG on RNG it just kills any excitement in the loot, so people spot caring and stop playing. If i could recal anything onto my items and had teh space for it, i would create sets for every weapon and skill, but jsut thinking about the time needed, i can't be bothered. The gradual on constant increase in "perfection" just isn't there, 99.99% of the play time just feels like a total waste of time in regards to any progress. So i sometimes do the hard daily or a few bounties, purely for the spec points, and that is it. And even teh specs are pointless, haven't used one in weeks as i still barely ever get any ammo. And that ignores that "soon" everything we got will be near 100% useless and would have been acquired in 1% of the time (GS 500 guaranteed and GS 515+ coming), though i expect they will screw the PVE players really bad with getting GS 515+ loot.

    1. Open up more buildings, have generic interior but a few of the interiors should have something silly or special placed inside.
Have you noticed the toy-bears littered around the place? I like that.
maybe small, simple puzzles to get deeper inside the buildings.

    2. Bounties and Boss Loot drops. Add something to those drops, like 5 extra rounds in a gun, 5% more armor on gear, little bonuses like that.

    Spice
    And depth.

If the gamesystems have depth, there is replayability, recalibration etc. Always something to test and try.

I feel depth needs to be designed in from the start.
A game with an A4-page thin story, sprinkled with some loot and crafting system that serves no real purpose, that is not going to last long.
