*Bug* Persistant Notification on Inventory = SOLVED(ish)

Thank me later devs... but I figured out where everyone is getting their persistent notification ‘bug’ from.

My fellow practitioners of OCD and I have been suffering under the excruciating torment of a notification on your personal inventory window (middle option on pause) that just cannot be cleared. As someone who enjoys being meticulous... I searched every available option...

Equipped each gear dye on each type of gear piece and left the pause screen (just in case that was some weird code caveat)

Equipped every weapon skin and left the pause screen.

Equipped every individual cosmetic piece and left the pause screen.

I equipped every single weapon mod I own onto its corresponding weapon class.

I have slotted all gear mods and skill mods.

I have equipped all specializations and used their unique skill variation as well as outfit and weapon mod.

I have gone to every individual item square in my resources window and attempted to view item info if possible.

Nothing. I know for a fact that many users simply have a gear or weapon dye they haven’t seen in the menu... or a newly created weapon mod they haven’t ‘visited’ in the resource section of the inventory screen. Or that there’s a minor notification for unused SHD tech... I know because some people report doing one of the things I tried... actually worked and it was a cheeky drum mag for revolvers weapon mod that was the source of the notification.

I have literally been in every area of UI that allows people to click stuff... and I have clicked ALL THE STUFF. Notification still there. Ok fine. Not me. Bug. Will suffer in silence.

Then today I noticed on my WT4 alt, my lvl 17 farmer and my lvl 2 mule...

NONE OF THOSE MF’ERS HAVE THE PERSISTENT NOTIFICATION.

Godammit. Must just be something from early game days or because it’s my first/main character. Whatever they will fix someday. Sort of low on the list unless you’re OCD LIKE SO MANY PEOPLE LOL. Oh and turning off unassigned items does not remove notification either.

    C’est la vie. SNAFU.

So today I decided to put my lvl 18 farmer through the dark zone missions so she would have more places to fast travel around the map. After I had picked up the ‘contaminated gear’ that is part of the DZ East recon, I saw I had a notification. On all my alts, I can clear all notifications no problem, but for one piece of whatever I wasn’t going to be bothered. Did the scripted extract and was running around doing some off the books recon and testing before DZ became populated for that character forever... noticed I still had the notification. I had opened a random loot case in DZ, so I just went to see what it was... nothing fancy. Close window, kill hyenas leave DZ. Go back to BoO, sell the piece I found and then retrieve item from DZ in my mailbox... sell that too.

    OH NOES. PERSISTENT NOTIFICATION.

Just prior to the mission I had done an inventory sweep and was basking in the bliss of a notification free UI... (srsly)

Literally only thing different between my 2 alts without persistent notification and my 2 alts with that f’ing exclamation mark forever... is that two have been to DZ.

I’m no code monkey but I was team IT for many a day. W00t. I’ll bet a monkeys left nut that the ‘contaminated gear’ you pick up and extract in the DZ leaves a notification behind that can’t be cleared because the original ‘contaminated’ item or whatever can’t be seen or found anymore. Well probably not that specific... but at least a variation on that theme. The fact it’s not the ‘regular DZ’ probably means that ‘contaminated’ loot just populates weird... and the the whole guaranteed scripted extraction... some notification from that process carries over and then can never be cleared as that item and iteration of the DZ are gone forever for that character.

Even the people I know who NEVER go in DZ did the basic stuff to unlock fast travel. Even the ones that didn’t really care about fast travel did at least first DZ mission. It’s possible that viewing the contaminated loot that you pick up when you’re in the solo DZ... clears that notification so when you leave there’s nothing left over.

This would account for the seemingly random striking of this issue. Players who had been on this rodeo before potentially wouldn’t bother checking one piece of contaminated loot. Especially something super scripted. Similarly... many casual players wouldn’t bother... however, a lot would be newb curious and view the item. It’s the perfect notification crime. Almost completely random in its bug generation... yet extremely specific and so no one can find out where it comes from without exhaustive searching.

I exhausted all the searching. Only someone with a series of alts at different stages of development and who were intended for different things would even see the difference... otherwise people generally follow the same creation and development routine. Furthermore, it would only piss them off if they were OCD.

So there. I found it. I mean solving issue is probably the same code wise or at least similar... but knowing where the lost notification comes from means you can adjust that portion of the game so it doesn’t happen to new players.

I shall continue suffering until a fix is deployed... but my hope for future generations is that they too enjoy a world of order and harmony and 0 notifications pending.

Much wow and many thanks given to the omnissiah.

I too share this curse. Not holding my breath on the fix. Thank you very much for your efforts.

Thanks for finding out what caused that insufferable exclamation mark to persist through any and all attempts of freeing my inventory menu from it.
And I commend your perseverance on typing all that up

I have the same notification. I try and block it out. Just don't look at it, eventually it will get bored and leave.
