The Old way was 10 x better, but because of the ill informed outcry and people having no clue how to use them (which infact was quite simple and easy to work out,) where you actually modded your gun for certain activities and each gun was modded differently we had a lot more diversity. Even the negatives were hardly noticeable once you modded it for exactly what you wanted that specific gun to do.
The mods were not the problem.
.
The devs listened and proceeded to nerf/ruin the weapon mods now they are just a generic, non diverse thing you put on a weapon that's the same for all weapons.
The weapon mod debacle was a perfect example, of the most vocal with no clue getting their own way
What actually blows me away, is that Ubi/Massive actually listened to feedback and made changes based on a 2 week old game, and continues to do so! I mean seriously, they spent years developing it, testing, etc... and right after launch, change it all. How can any player have a decent grasp of the game or even get used to something in that short time frame. Players gripe about any and all things that bugs them, because they want something simple and easy without considering the balance consequences. Then when you give it to them, they and more players now gripe about the changes.Originally Posted by Sensible-Jack Go to original post
It would have been nice if they left it alone, took a look at where the dust settled after a few months and the players had tried many different things (as opposed to copying some tuber), and then made slight adjustments to tweak the balance and gameplay over time. But, apparently Ubi listens to the vocal outcries and makes MASSIVE sweeping changes at the drop of a hat. I swear, it seems like if the first tuber videos all showed skill builds instead of DPS, everyone would have done that, then others would have screamed how OP it was. Yes I agree skill builds are mostly broken, but apparently 6 weeks in, folks are finding some pretty decent ones, now that they put in the time to collect the gear, play with the skills and have gotten the drops to make it work.
Anyhow, I liked the weapon mods how they were orgionaly with the negatives. I never found a single one where the negative actually affected me. The changes made, especially the lowering of the mag size, definitely affected my game negatively though.
I think they made the change to appeal more to the casual players, I think most people who complained were not even level 30Originally Posted by Kwoung Go to original post

devs in a stream explaining what small nerfs/buffs are to come, e.g. the mk17 too strong and all

which then went live. at that point nobody was complaining about too strong skills. it was not
on any radar.
Yup, and who would have cared if you lost some weapon stability, if they even had the Sharpshooter specialization already... no one. But hey, lets make huge changes based on knee jerk reactions by people who haven't even played the whole game to see how things work together yet.Originally Posted by Steppia Go to original post
Yeah, the thing is that, at least I, wanted some weak no negative mods as additional options, not as a replacement for everything. It was so you could put anything into those slots if you didn't want the negatives, i really didn't expect UBI to that lazy and just create duplicates and near no negative options at all.Originally Posted by Visualsun Go to original post
I was ok with the way they were at launch because there were consequences to which one you picked.
But the snowflakes cried and they immediately got changed. But I'm ok with how they are now also. Still looking for that 20 round AR mag though.
However I did NOT like the way they were in TD1 because if you wanted to use a scope that was on a different weapon, then you had to remove it from that weapon. That was a p.i.t.a.
