I did it solo last night and the final stage was really a PITA. Made it in 3 attempts though and got lucky the revive hive did it's job - even twice! Then I did it again this morning with a friend and got out of it with the tactical commendation for not getting armor depleted. Felt somehow way easier even tough the same enemies were around...

Because since the beginning I have done challenging Roosevelt with randoms and have experienced varying degrees of success and failures too.

So when doing the same mission with the same conditions and the only changing factor is the group it's not hard to pin point why things seem more easier or difficult and it's not the NPCs who magically became stronger or intelligent.

Additionally, I learn not only from my own failures but learn to adapt to randoms. Call me sadistic or whatever but I do missions with randoms where they struggle and help them when I can and IF they are willing to read group chat. I did the same thing in Division 1's Clear Sky Heroic. There was a time in this game where all I would was matchmake for Roosevelt challenging because 8/10 times I knew I would join a group at the end phase.

Now my motivation may have been for easy XP but I also did learn where mistakes were being made and how randoms played. It got to a point where I felt the randoms I matchmaked with either watched some video or were just skilled players as the end phase of Roosevelt went like clockwork. Also note this was before the nerf where I loved playing Roosevelt over and over again.

However since 1.7 with the crashes, long load times (which was only fixed yesterday), seeing how easy Challenging has become and forthcoming PTS changes I have no motivation to play the game. Many people feel the same way, so I stick by what I said.

Edit - It is however possible for Ubisoft to have buffed NPC's without telling anyone. If they have I'll definitely load the game just to test that theory out.

Maybe test it. I played the other day on that map and two waves spawned from locations that I've never seen used before. The mix seems to be variable now too as I played that map 5 times and it was different in some way each time. I'm not contesting that a good team of experienced players will not find it smoother than an inexperienced team as that much is obvious. But it isn't the easiest map in the game by a stretch. I think it's harder than Basin which is the second hardest map in my opinion.

I did it last night with 3 friends and the end happened to be the easiest part. We were actually surprised how fast we knocked out the boss. Didn't think it was any harder than normal.

I did the Roosevelt Island Combat Merit yesterday solo. The boss fight at the end was very hard. I tried it 4 times before i had sucsess. I think it's the hardest boss fight for a solo player because you can be flankt by npc's on the whole map.

At my last try i used the long cover beside the truck with the minigun on the left side. Use my turret for crowd control and have had a litte luck at the end (the boss stood near the tank and move slowly forward).

    [edit]
The invasion mode [hard, challenge] is a lot easier because of the different level design.

Did this with a friend and two randoms, first time at the end we wiped as there just seemed to spawn way too many enemies.
And then the second try barely any enemies spawned.... We were just standing waiting for another wave to come but nothing happen.

First time we had like 4-5 waves from the left side, second try there was 2.
Dunno if it bugged up or if the encounter truly is random with its spawns?

Roosevelt Island final fight is the hardest challenging difficulty part in the whole game imo. I shudder to think what heroic is like. No thanks.

Considering the only real "Boss" is about halfway through/at the C4 gate area.

The fact that that sledge boss AND the other sledge hammer guys refuse to chase you into the yellow tent/that you travel through to get to the gate area, it makes it way too easy to mow them down. I'm sure it's some coding glitch, but given it's a melee boss & they won't chase you into the tent, makes it the easiest named enemy in the entire game. You just blow the gate open, when the boss & other sledgies then spawn, run back to the tent & lightem up.

& hey to the devs, that's not the only "glitch" exploit on that mission, the fact players can camp at the wall/at the last part of the mission and spam seekers & turrets to clear the last area is still a thing. Only time players go over the wall is to destroy the tanks when the current waves of enemies are defeated, then they fast travel back to the teammate who didn't go over the wall, & they spend 20 more minutes killing off the new npc wave with the low powered skills again. Completely avoids engaging all npcs directly.....the "Forced catchup timer" for that area is missing in that mission, that's the issue. When one person goes over the wall, that timer should start & force everyone over, like it does in other missions at ending areas.
