    Confusing numbers....

I have the same gun (military mk17 rifle) with a different score and 2/3 same talents. How one gun scores 500 and the other scores 497 but shoots 5.6% stronger (46.5 against 43.9)? Is it the third talent “greased” instead of the other “double duty” that makes it? I’m confused.... I don’t think so because in recalibration station, if I change the talent it remains the same 497...

The 500 and 497 are geasr scores and they don't really mean anything.
Weapons have a damage range. If you have a Military MK 17 for example the damage range can be between 28122 - 34372. (Before you add on damage modifiers)
Therefore you may have a GS500 rifle that only rolled 29,000 for damage but a GS497 rifle that rolled 32,000 damage.

You can actually loot a 485 weapon or gear that could have better stats than a 500. Gear score is mostly meaningless in this game, as there are low-high rolls in the RNG for every item. Basically, a high rolled 485 weapon could make a low rolled 500 look like junk, and in your case a 497 vs 500, pretty much no difference at all and highly likely the lower gear score one could be better.
