First I'd just like to say I started in beta, but due to frustrations of balance and internet connection have taken several long breaks. I think it's because of the breaks that I've noticed how strange some of the problems with the game are as well as where some obvious improvements could be. I don't really do forums, but For Honor is a unique game and I'd love to see it come back or keep chuggin along like Rainbow Six.
The first thing I think would be nice would be, at least for duel and brawl (although it could be for all modes), is an incentive for players to rematch with each other. It's really frustrating going through an epic fight barely losing 2-3, because I swung a heavy and the other guy tosses a light and kills me, and then despite us being pretty evenly matched, the guy leaves. Even in cases where I'm 0-3 and just demolished, I want to fight that guy (unless it's just more of a guessing game match of say a warden stagnating the shoulder bash timing), cause that's how I'll get better. Not to mention how much faster it is to level and gain steel in the 4v4 modes it's just doesn't feel worth it, outside of enjoying the tension. So I'd suggest something like 10% steel/rep boost for rematches in duel and brawl or maybe even some of the battle skins are offered for rematching people enough.
Second, and I don't expect this to change since it's over 2 years after launch, but my God does this game feel like it doesn't change. By the time the first 6 characters were released some characters had only been nerfed or generally left alone, despite being next to unplayable. I'm a shugoki main, but holy hell do I feel bad for raider/LB cause seriously? Over two years for some number changes that I'm sure a thousand people have suggested by now? Unless y'all actually have 5 people working on balance for this game... what exactly are you doing? There's currently 23 characters, if I'm not mistaken and several of which haven't been in game for most of the time, so unless there's just some serious development required for changing the animations I can't understand why certain characters have needed to wait over 2 years to get ANY serious attention.
Third, I recently did the math on how much it would cost to get MOST, not all, of the outfits and emotes/effects. It was over $12,000!!!!! I just bought a 2012 minivan with all the extra features for that much! You expect me to grind out well over 10 million steel in playing when 150,000 goes for $100? I mean that'd be... "ok" I guess if the game was being updated, but it really isn't outside of quality of life. I mean I'd like to suggest that you make outfits and effects faction specific, because that still won't cover things like emotes or executions and then there's still... well everything else. That only- and I can't believe I'm saying this- "only be" a thousand dollars cheaper. Don't get me wrong though, go ahead and make bank on the outfits and what not, but over 12 grand for a game that isn't getting updated constantly nor is well balanced?
Fourth, this is more a note to the community, although I doubt anyone reading the forums will be this kind of person. There are some characters with an insane amount of combos they can pull off, but they aren't all safe (characters with soft feints and light spam or just an opener). There are some characters with almost no combos or openers (see shugoki, raider, LB) and they aren't safe. Stop complaining that when I play shugoki "All I do is spam". What would you have me do? ONI CHARGE YOU? You want me to do my one mixup? I started playing again last night and got 5 messages that told me I spam while playing shugoki, three of which were against Orochis (if you can believe it. This morning I got another few messages after winning saying "Shugoki is trash and so are you". PSA That is NOT an insult against the person you are telling it to! You are insulting yourself! I'm not mad about this, I mean I won, but I just think it's crazy that despite not playing for months I still get these messages every few matches. Also I always say good fight, win or lose, I don't taunt, I don't emote (unless the other guy bows or I might bow if I found someone to be an exceptionally good player after I beat them).
Finally, I want to end on a positive note, cause this game always used to enrage me, but I loved it. There's a reason I quit several times, but here I am not only playing and intending to play more, but I'm on the forums. The game is a breath of fresh air in terms of concept even 2 years after launch and I love almost everything Ubisoft, although Ubi, babe, please go back to classic Assassins creed, but keep the skill tree. I'm not playing your game for a hack n slash I want that stealth and story. To be honest, I'm not sure much could make this game come back to those beta days where people still fought about ledging, GBs were "overpowered", parrying a heavy made you a pro, and you could only parry lights by mistake. I think the problem comes from the game itself, because the whole guard system and ability to block, dodge, or parry into, well anything, makes the game defensive oriented. I think it would be very interesting to see this game remove blocking and focus on range, excepting certain characters that are supposed to be defensive (Warlord, conq, LB, etc.). Slow the movement speed down while locked on and add some time to the parry window for lights. I think this would make the game's combos more useful as well as more realistic (are you really going to tell me that anyone other than the heavies is stopping a fully charged shugoki heavy cause they parried? I could see it if they deflected, but spoiler their arms are broken or they dropped their weapon).
Well that was longer and more rant filled than I thought it was going to be, but... hey there you go. Just some thoughts.
