RNG on side missions, sometimes so easy, today...what happened.

    I have some 200 hours in D2, 3 agents, 450 WT4, level 18 and level 12.
I have done the second part of the Odea Office and the batteries, 2 times before and it has been great fun but I have not died completing it until this morning.

It is not the 1st time I believe that a form of RNG exists on events / missions where most times you get the reasonable run, but like this morning there is the run from hell, sort of
    “You shall not pass”.

My CTar 21 suddenly was really ineffective, taking ages to do much damage, there were more npc’s spawning in total but they kept spawning behind me, the rushers vanished, then reappeared right next to me, some npc’s ran at me jumped the barrier I was hiding behind and then hid behind me and the big yellow mini gun guy was barely scratched by 4 magazines.

Constantly moved, healed up but just could not kill them quick enough, before getting surrounded by multiple npc’s. Interesting to see tomorrow whether a subsequent run will be as tough.

Fairly aggressive NPC’s crowding your position, died 6 times before deciding maybe later.
Similar runs on Capitol Hill, Roosevelt Island, Air and water Museum, where runs were horrible, subsequent tries a walk in the park.

Have you had a similar experience where one attempt to complete a mission is horrible, other tries a walk in the park?

I think I may have experienced something similar. I come up against one level 26 group that I quickly put away then I meet some level 25 enemy's that I cannot hurt. I put it down to some form of RNG, but wasn't sure.

It does feel different from time to time, but I think maybe the team mates on the team have an influence too. If the overall damage being dished out isn't enough, enemies will crowd you easier and feel more aggressive because the team is not putting them down fast enough.

There are rotations from what I have seen on the forum, so there will be team changes with the npc’s.
Certainly if you do not drop them they will crowd you, but there was a distinct difference in the damage I was dealing with hits not registering

The rushers would run at you, vanish and reappear 1 or 2 metres away, at times behind you, npc’s were spawning behind me repeatedly, just a whole lot of unusual behaviour by the npc’s.

When I played later back to usual standard, the CTar 21 melting them, no vanishing npc’s, no missed shots, cruising again.

Have not retried the side mission yet but it will be interesting to see if it is reasonable or terrible.

I noticed it's all up to position.
If you fighting enemies on large areas with a lot of cover positions, they can use them and fight correctly.
If there is not enough cover places they all rushing.
Looks like AI just can't find required conditions to cover for all mobs and give up.

I was doing a tier 4 CP today and after taking the cp when the second wave comes. They just kept coming. A boss never came.

45 min fighting a CP and they just kept coming,
all friendly npc's had of course died, then I finally died out of frustration figuring maybe if I restart it it would fix.
When I spawned at the closest safe point.. the cp was green. I got no reward...

    Something was wacky today.

    Food for thought....

Part of the "selling point" for this game was randomness (although I didn't expect it in the loot to this extent). They clearly stated that every time you repeated something the mix of mobs would be completely different. Although they tried very hard to balance this, it was a fail. Certain mixes of mobs in an encounter can make it 100x more difficult depending on your build, play style, etc...

I played a mission the other day that must have had 5 drone dudes in the mix... I was unable to even reload they were exploding so much on me (after my clip emptied). Even though I had HUGE resists and ignore to explosions, I ended up dying repeatedly because I simply couldn't reload my weapon and they popped me out of cover so much.

Welcome to the world of RNG. Try the mission tomorrow and it could be a walk in the park.

Ok thanks that gives some basis for why it happens but it is more than just NPC changes as weapons are far less effective, shots on target do not register, some npc’s move by vanishing then reappearing some where else. A whole collection of weird.

this is a clear case of bad conection from you to server, can be caused by either end, you or ubisoft, or anything inbetween
your client has different position for the npcs as the server and at some point yourclient just drops its position, enemies disappear, and inputs the newly aquired positions from the server, eneies reappear somewhere else
this will also happen with bullets, as the information that a bullet has hit the target will not reach the server, eg due to packet loss, and therefor this bullet will not deal dmg

all you can do is restart your router and hope its it was your router that caused the problem, else you cant do anything to fix it and have to wait untill somewhere someone will actually find out there is a problem and fix it

Your explanation has logic and would explain it if it was not for the fact the game was running flawlessly before the event, such as main mission, side mission, control point, territory control, hostage rescue, propaganda broadcast.

I can clear stuff easily, my weapons are very effective, the npc’s die quickly, shots cause damage, the world is running as it should be.
Most events are the same but just every now and then and it can be in the middle or at the end, npc’s become hard to kill, damage drops away, they change behaviour and begin to rush your position.

I have rerun incomplete missions and they have had extra numbers of npc’s, spawns in different places, guns do not cause damage and it takes much more to kill them.
On the space museum, there were 3 additional yellow bosses, multiple waves of additional npc’s, I ran out of ammunition on 2 main weapons, an AR and a 45 shot LMG, ending up with the 100 shot big LMG. The npc’s were much harder to kill, much more aggressive to close your position.
A thought was could it be running you temporarily on a higher level, in error.

Next day, rerun it for a 3rd time or some events on the 5th to X tries, it changes and is back to what you know and you can get through, perhaps the “random” parameter contributes to this, if so it needs the margins narrowed.

But it seems more like a program collection, designed to make it very tough, a you shall not pass scenario.
Not alone in feeling there are gremlins in the system as you can cruise through content then hit the twilight zone of weird, die repeatedly, like a recent run at Odea’s store, then later it is a walk in the park.
