Good question... I’ve played many of them extensively and in the end, I prefer a big round like 50 cal or 338 LM. But lately, in the interest of a bit more realism, I don’t use 50-cal as I don’t like how it blows vehicles up as if they were a car bomb. So I’m mostly using .338 and my current fav is the SR-1 which is perhaps one of the least talked about rifles in the game (not sure why). It comes in a reasonable size, looks good, and packs a good punch with minimal bullet drop. I’m particularly fond of the cool looking SR-1 Chameleon when I’m in a province with suitable greenery.
The BFG-50A is my fav when I want to blow up vehicles without using explosives. And the HTI BDC is probably the best (most reliable one-shot) at Tier 1. The TAC-50 was my marksman rifle of choice on a recent lone wolf sniper play through. And I’ve used the glitched one-hit wonder that is the SR-25 Jungle on a couple of Tier Grinds, but they seem to have nerfed that rifle a bit recently. I use to like the SRSA1 for being so compact but the RoF for follow up shots is not great. I never really got into the MSR, it just never seemed to excel at anything - but was a great all-around choice. Early in the game, I tried some of the .308 rifles, but found the bullet drop to be a bit ridiculous. In fact, although it’s glitched, the SR-25 Jungle is probably the most realistic rifle in the game for bullet drop although the Extranjeros BFG is similar.
Everything I've read on the situation said that the production model MSRs supplied to SOCOM had inferior accuracy compared to the test models. Something about Remington supposedly changing barrel suppliers. Considering the MRAD competed alongside the MSR in the PSR trials and lost out, I'm inclined to think there's some truth to it.Originally Posted by Bone_Frog Go to original post
The M110 was just an SR-25 with a facelift (LoP-adjustable stock, ambi controls, different rail handguard, and some other changes) and the SR-25 has been in use since at least the late 80s, so I'd say it's service length has been respectable.
Do you have a source for any of that?Originally Posted by Ghost416 Go to original post
From what I can find at Loadout Room and a few other places the MRAD that Barret submitted the second time around had some significant improvements over the first. Likewise the Army isn't scheduled to take receipt of them until the original planned 10yr contract with Remmington has expired. They only ever envisioned a 10yr service life for the MSR.
Now I can find sources for the M110 not performing up to grade.

Which the Army eventually pulled a CYA on and said they wanted something different. They went with the G28 by HK. Notably the G28 is a face lift on the HK417.

Articles on Kit Up! and Soldier Systems, but I can't seem to find them anymore and the only other mentions I can find are hearsay from comments on such sites, so take my claim with a grain of sand.Originally Posted by Bone_Frog Go to original post
I wonder what the changes are. Oh, no doubt the SR-25 platform has had issues over the years. Chris Kyle wasn't kind to it in his book (take that for what you will, depending on what your opinion of him is) and the first round of production M110s supposedly had a habit of firing two-round bursts when the trigger was pulled (please don't ask for a source on that, the last time I read anything about it was '09 or '10 XD). I was merely commenting on the length of its service, its reputation being a whole different story. I think it only persisted for so long because it was more or less alone in its category for the longest time. I do think there are better AR-10 type platforms out there these days, such as the LaRue OBR (which I've seen being used by Army SF snipers in pics) and aforementioned HK417.Now I can find sources for the M110 not performing up to grade.
