The Geisha
Summary:
By request I decided to make this little information box.
The Geisha will have a lot of moves that work similarly to other characters.
Her dodge heavy sequence will look similar to Nuxia's default execution where she twirls around the opponent.
this sequence will feel a lot like Aramusha's deadly feints, but it'll be for less damage and can't be dodged out of.
Her infinite chain is almost the exact same as berserker's, but without hyperarmor and different chain finishers
Her zone attack which I'll most likely add later (but can be previewed in the comments) will work a lot like Conquero's zone attack and it'll serve as a chain starter.
She's an extremely close-range fighter that will harass you for approaching her. How do you fight her? Characters who fight at medium or long range would be really good counters for her. She can't really do anything when she's not in your face. Another way would be how you fight of Berserkers, because their chain are quite similar: parry the heavies and block the lights. but watch out: the Geisha is able to softfeints her heavies into a GB. SHE WON'T BE ABLE TO SOFTFEINT HEAVIES INTO LIGHTS, THAT'S EXCLUSIVE TO HER TWIRL.
Backstory:
Ever since Maiko was a child she wanted to become a performer. She wanted to make people smile
while being in the spotlight herself of course. The village where she grew up wasn’t aware of what
was happening between the 3 factions. At the time there were tensions between the 3 but no war or
so they thought. When Maiko became 18 she decided to become a dancer ( a Geisha), but her father,
a general (who became more and more wary of the threat that were the Vikings and knights) pushed
her to learn self-defense and martial arts in her spare time.
As she grew older not only was she a battle ready warrior, she also was a graceful dancer who made
people smile every day. However on one fateful evening when she was performing with other
dancers in front of the emperor, her parents and family members, a group of Vikings came rushing in,
Maiko was left completely frozen of fear. They slaughtered everyone that tried to defend
themselves. They took Maiko, the dancers and some other unlucky (and rather weak) people and
imprisoned them.
Valkenheim isn’t a nice place for outsiders, certainly not for people who’re not used to the cold
temperatures. Maiko and the other prisoners were locked up outside in a wooden cell. Every day
someone succumbed to the cold up until the following happened: A knight assassin (Mercy from the story mode) apparently had
destroyed one Viking hideout by herself and quite a lot of Vikings were requested to immediately
restore the hideout. This meant that the security had been divided in half.
When the Vikings left, a group of Samurais appeared, fought off the remaining Vikings and freed the
handful of people that were still alive (including Maiko). They were brought to a Samurai hideout and
were informed that the Samurai were back on their way reclaiming the territory. Maiko was told
their lives would be the same as before, but Maiko didn’t want to listen, she lost all what she had.
Maiko didn’t want to lose anyone else to future raids and decided to teach her friends (the dancers)
a thing or two about self-defense. Thanks to her martial arts skills and dancing skills she was able to
create a completely new type of style. She’d incorporate dances to make herself extra deadly. She
ultimately became the leader of a clan of female assassins. They look like the typical dancers, but
they’re deadly battle ready warriors that could kill their enemies in seconds.
Fashion:
Just like the Wu Lin, I want her to have 3 default sets: a theatrical one (1), an assassin one (2) and
combat-ready one (3). Let me explain. Viking raids can happen at any time and so Maiko had to be
ready at any time to fight whether she was fighting on the front with metal armor or wearing
traditional makeup and a kimono or on her way to assassinate a target. Her grey gear would be
extremely battle worn.
(1) Her kimono would be slightly ripped and covered in dirt. The make up is worn off and her hair is
either loose or in a ponytail.
(2) When Maiko had just established her clan she didn’t have a lot of resources for a unique outfit
that hid her identity. She had to make do with a mask and fairly generic ‘ninja’ clothes.
(3) Maiko mourned the death of her father a lot. Right before he died he had given her combat ready
samurai armor, specifically made for her. The armor would be something similar to Orochi and
Kensei, but with metal and it would be worn out due to it being grey gear.
The higher the gear rarity the cleaner / more royal her gear is: She’d have quite some variations in
hair styles, kimono’s etc., her assassin outfit would begin to look more and more serious with
different hairstyles, face masks, demon masks etc. And lastly her combat armor would have
variations with different types of metal, cloth etc. but all in the style of the armor her dad made for
her.
Weapon:
Okay… don’t laugh, but I want her to wield a special type of war fans, similar to Kitana from Mortal
kombat. Her fans would be equipped with several knives.

Faction: Samurai
Class: Assassin
Specialty: Dodge specialist, harasser, close-range
Move-set
Maiko has a very unique fighting style, she incorporates her dance in the mix.
Chains:
Maiko has every 3-hit chain in the game, but can prolong her chain by switching up between lights
and heavies (or feints). After every chain (or at any point in her infinite chain, after she’s done at
least 3 inputs) she has two different chain finishers: an omnidirectional light attack which similar to
Shaman makes the opponent bleed or a bash (a kick) which guarantees a light attack.
Maiko has the ability to softfeint heavy attacks into guardbreaks and can dodge out of heavy attacks.
Forward dash heavy: The Geisha performs an overhead double slash which is undodgeable and
serves as a chain starter.
Forward dash bash: A beautiful kick comparable to Nobushi’s kick or a step-up knee smash (I’m not
completely sure which one of the two). It would confirm a light and it wallsplats. This kick/knee
smash can be feinted only by dodging out of it and will in turn similar to Tiandi not guarantee a GB if
the opponent guessed right.
Dodge attacks:
Okay this is where she shines.
She has regular dodge light attacks which look similar to Nuxia’s but
her dodge heavy will serve as a gimmick for her.
By pressing the dodge button + the input for a heavy attack (close enough to a single enemy) the
Geisha will start the sequence. She will start with a twirl and will start to attack you rotating around
you in a counter clockwise manner. This sequence is completely dependable on the Geisha’s inputs
and will be negated when an enemy/teammate attempts to attack or when the Geisha switches
targets. How does this work? Well the initial dodge heavy does nothing apart from making her dodge
with a twirl but you’ll have to incorporate lights and or heavies to make the sequence happen. This
attack will automatically end when she’s made an entire 360 around you. In this sequence any light
attack she throws cannot be parried, only blocked. Her heavies can be parried but they can be
softfeinted. To make sure this doesn’t become OP the damage per attack would be very low. The
Geisha can throw up to 3 heavies or 5 lights (/feinted heavies). These lights would be 400 ms, but
before you yell “OP” the damage total would be at a max of 20 if ALL of them were to hit and it’d
cost her a ton of stamina. Then why would she throw out raw heavies? Because they do the damage
(and block damage)! If all 3 heavies were to hit she’d have done around 40 – 50 damage max and be
nearly out of stamina. This sequence CANNOT be dodged out of.
If the Geisha is out of stamina the sequence will stop immediately. She can only end it prematurely
by switching targets or unlocking.
I’m willing to change some things about the twirl but this is basically how I would want it to be. It
should feel like you’re trapped, kind of like when you get bombarded with Aramusha’s attacks (and
deadly feints).
Deflect: Similar to Gladiator I would want her to penetrate the opponent’s side/stomach and hold
them there for a bit and inflict a ton of bleed damage. She’d catch the opponent’s weapon with one
fan (between two knives) and inflict bleed with the other.
I hope you like my idea so far, I’m willing to add more details later but I don’t want all of this work to
be for nothing.
Thanks, since I'm not exclusively a Shaman main anymore (for a while) I wanted a different picture and Wrestlemania had just happened so I thought: Why not? lolOriginally Posted by UbiInsulin Go to original post
My inspiration came from a lot of places actually (there was even a death battle video on YouTube between a Geisha assassin and a... gladiator?
I've seen people suggesting Geisha's in For Honor too and I liked the idea and made my own story, fashion and move-set around it.
I like the concept, its very interesting , i will probably not play it but fight against her, with the fashion and these special weapons, that can be very cool👌Originally Posted by rottmeister Go to original post
Damn better back story out of the gate compared to mine. Only misgiving I have there is the ending bit seems a bit rushed. feels like the knights and Samurai almost attacked one after another. Strong start though. Style wise I dig her very much and your weapon of choice is certainly something i'd love to see since we have included more exotic weapons with the wu-lin.
Having a dodge forward bash and heavy seems like it might be a nice mind game. Unfortunately the thing i'm not sold on is your main gimmick. Like, don't get me wrong. I wouldn't mind the dance effect in itself. But if that's kinda what i'm expected to be doing the entire time? Just doesn't seem practical in team fights. Maybe i'd have to see how fast it's done in action to quell my worry about it.
I can't really think of any inherent flaws. Other than maybe the unparryable lights. Not sure how that could be communicated visually to someone.
I made the backstory on the spot so yeah it might have some imperfections, but I wouldn't mind to rewrite the ending. I don't know if it came across wrong but Mercy the PK had destroyed another Viking hideout (like in the story mode). A lot of Vikings died in that night so a lot of other Vikings were requested to restore the hideout which meant a lot of the security from the hideout where Maiko was kept would be gone and in turn allow a little group of Samurais to take out the remaining Vikings and free the prisonersOriginally Posted by Knight_Raime Go to original post
Yeah her gimmick move is what I struggled with to balance. The reason I think it should have some guaranteed damage is because she puts herself at risk when in a multi-man match and in turn will lose a ton of stamina, however I didn't want the attacks to be as damaging as regular attacks. I had given the example that 5 light attacks in this sequence would add up to a maximum of 20, but since 400 ms aren't parried too often, I might take away the "unparryable" status, but then I would probably up the damage a bit for the light attacks.
The Geisha is more supposed to be a dueling hero, so her "gimmick" move might not always be the best use in 4's, but for that reason I gave her pretty decent chains. i probably should've specified but the infinite chain works like Berserker's (without Hyperarmor, but the moves are the same speed) and allows her to switch targets better while keeping her chain going, so she'd be a decent anti-ganker. Whenever she is outnumbering an enemy her usefulness will come in her bashes, her pressure from the infinite chain and probably some of her feats.
The fact that the Geisha has 2 different chain finishers allows her to play around and basically have some type of 50/50. You either get hit with a blood poke or you get bashed. The fact that she can do this at any point in the infinite chain allows her to pressure the opponent.
The goal of her "twirl" is to make the enemies feel trapped, if you have a better idea for it, I'm all ears. This twirl would be similar to Nuxia's default execution.
Let's say the lights are 400ms → 400 * 5 = 2000 ms
Her heavies would be 600ms (these speed values are exclusive for the twirl) → 600 * 3 = 1800 ms
That would be the ideal situation, it wouldn't take too long, but you can always end it prematurely by switching targets when you see an enemy coming.
I forgot to think about what would happen if the Geisha inputs a light in the sequence but nothing after it...
I was thinking it would either continue until the 360 is done, still allowing her to attack or it would immediately stop
I'm not a writer so I don't think I can give more info on that. I understood the events that took place. Merely saying the pacing of the writing could throw someone through a loop easily. Perhaps if there was more details on the knight's portion it might lengthen things enough to not feel awkward.Originally Posted by rottmeister Go to original post
I thank you for the comparisons. Both to Nuxia's execution and zerks style of play combo wise. Makes it much easier to understand. Maybe some how include both things in your opening post.
Yeah from what i'm hearing it sounds like her dance would be the gimmick and not the only thing i'm doing. Which quells most of my uneasyness. My only remaining concern honestly just is the trapping of an enemy inside the circle. I know movement isn't a huge part of in combat stuff. But it still. Not saying it needs changing. just something to note.
Probably best to just have it immediately stop. Unless I missed it you should also note if there is any dodge capabilities during start up, during the full thing, or at all.
I'm not a writer either but I imagined I didn't have to provide extra info about the knight's involvement because you play through it in the story mode, but I might change it later today or tomorrow.Originally Posted by Knight_Raime Go to original post
To make the twirl more fair you could dodge the first hit, but once hit or blocked, it starts. You'll basically have to guess whether she'll throw out a light, a heavy or softfeint her heavy and then dodge (or parry) accordingly. Once trapped the opponent can't dodge out of it, only block/parry. It might sound easy on paper to dodge but since she herself can dodge out of any heavy she throws it will make it more difficult. Imagine her starting her infinite chain on you and then suddenly when she throws a heavy, dodges out of it → twirl. If Nuxia's trap is able to catch people off guard, this certainly will!
Likely edits:
Zone attack (can't believe I forgot it): A simple and short twirl that does damage close range and fights off attacks. To give an example: Conqueror's zone attack has him swing his weapon around him. The Geisha will do something similar but she herself will make a twirl while doing so. It serves as a chain starter.
Chain finishers:
This is what makes the Geisha special, she has 2 different chain finishers: an omnidirectional bleed poke or a bash where she knees her opponent in the face while confirming a light attack which allows her to start yet another chain. The Geisha has every 3-hit chain in the game but can also opt for an infinite similar to Berserker's but without hyperarmor.
Deadly Duet / Deadly Ballet:
It requires the input of a dodge heavy attack and will allow the Geisha to trap her opponent into a circle of pain. The opponent will be able to dodge/parry his way out of Deadly Duet / Deadly Ballet in the initial hit, but it requires a read since the heavies in this sequence are softfeintable. When the sequence has begun the enemy CAN'T dodge or deflect his way out of the attack, he will be trapped in place and will get caught even when trying to unlock roll. Deadly Duet / Deadly Ballet will automatically end when either the Geisha has made a complete circle around him or when the enemy parries an attack. This move will automatically end when either the Geisha or the opponent gets hit by an external attack, when the Geisha unlocks/switches targets or stops with inputs. The amount of attacks the Geisha will be able to do is completely dependent on her inputs: If she decides to only throw lights, she'll be able to throw 5 400 ms lights making the move a total of 2000 ms. If the Geisha opts for all heavies, she'll be able to throw 3 600ms heavies adding up to a total of 1800ms. if she switches up her inputs the following will happen:
A heavy attack will count as 2 lights, this means that after doing 2 heavies (no feinting) she'll only be able to do 1 more light attack/heavy feint into light or a heavy of course. If the Geisha has thrown out 3 or more lights (and no heavies) and decides to opt for a heavy, it will automatically end the sequence after throwing the heavy. I've decided to make her lights in this chain a little more menacing and upped the damage from 5 to 7. going from a maximum of 20 damage to a maximum of 35 if all lights hit.
(I also added the Summary box to my concept above)
