Wanted to give some constructive feedback [SPOILERS]

    Intro:
I've played every Far Cry since it's original in 2014 I think it was? I have been a long time fan of the series. I never really felt the need to voice my opinion but I felt compelled to this time around because to be honest, this wasn't my favorite Far Cry. In this post I would like to share both my positive and negative outlook on the latest title. I understand not everyone will share my views and thats okay. I not here to trash talk Ubi or devs, not here to online troll. I'm just a typical gamer fan. So let me begin.

I'm Glad There Is Real Endgame:
Finally!!!!! A reason to keep playing!!! It's nice being able to still see enemies present after the game ends, individually reset outposts I can re-take forever. Expeditions were a nice add on, however I wish There were other missions available to choose from other than grab and run. Like kill a number of VIP's, free and save hostages, chase and kill an enemy before they make getaway. I hope this feature is kept because I feel like a lot more can be done with it.

I Did NOT Enjoy The Weapon And Enemy Tiers/ Rarities
It's not that it's a bad feature, I like the concept of being able to upgrade and advance weapons But I hate how enemies become bullet sponges if you don't have the right tier weapons. Yes it began to feel more normal, even Overpowered once you get your elite weapons, but Far Cry has always been a run and gun style, single player shooter.I didn't mind the heavy armored enemy with large vest and thick helm from time to time before but the first time I unloaded my entire clip from my grey machinegun into my first purple enemies head, and not even phase him was just so disheartening. or throwing 5 C4's at a gold enemy and still not kill them. Not to mention I hate seeing the numbers and health bars now, wouldn't even be necessary if this stuff didn't have new rarities to begin with. I like being able to win with skill and accuracy, now I just build an OP weapon that can one shot everything. That just isn't Far Cry and I honestly feel that game was trying to be something that it's not, and never was.

No More Squads? Lack of Air Combat? Guns for Hire Recruiting?
I know a lot of people complain that the game was to easy, but easy doesn't mean it wasn't fun. Was it easy to take an outpost with air squadron with Nick Rye, Adele Drumbman and myself in an attack chopper? Yeah easy. But was it fun? HECK YEAH IT WAS. Or being able to command Peaches and Jess Black to take an outpost stealthily while I disable the alarms. Even the Guns for hire recruits were fun leveling them up to get their perks, I wish they had done more with that like being able to make a custom gun for hire where you choose from limited weapons for them and a perk or 2, I don't know. I just don't like how now I can only have 1 Gun for hire to fight an outpost of bullet sponges. And I get that it's the apocalypse but I really miss Air combat. One of my favorite things to do was wait to get dive'd by an enemy plane and try and snipe the pilot out with the .50 cal. I know we still get helicopters, but even then I just feel like there was even more of a lack of air enemy presence, Even Far Cry 5 didn't have that much to begin with and was pretty almost existent once you took out Johns Region, minus a heilo here and there. They could have given enemies the ability to call air support, or give them lock on launchers or anti aircraft guns, There's a lot they could have done to make it challenging than just removing the features entirely. One of the best things about the series was just having a sandbox with cool toys to play around mess with and I just feel like there were less cool toys in New Dawns sandbox. Again I know it's the apocalypse and there probably wouldn't be a lot of that but like I said, fine line between realistic and fun.

    The map wasn't bad
I felt it was changed enough to feel different and I like having those bits of nestalgia coming across locations I remembered. Plus I really like having a home base with all sorts of shops available in one place. I like being able to upgrade and unlock new features and I felt this was executed really well. I loved the mission when the highwaymen attacked and I wish you could do more base and outpost defence oriented stuff. Like maybe a time limit to fortify and set traps before the invasion. The Gladiatorial fight pits and race durbies were AMAZING. Brought me back to the fight pit of FC4. I would love to see more stuff like that.

Mickey and Lou, and the Highwaymen in general lacked depth.
I liked the concept of twins but they seemed to lack character till the very end. The highwaymen....I mean, where did they come from? I get that there would be gangs after the world ends but how did one single gang manage to recruit so many members, have multiple chapter and holds across America? WTF does the Eye Symbol mean or represent? Out of all the gangs that had to of spring up after the bombs dropped, what made the Highwaymen this powerful? There just didn't seem to be a lot of effort into their story, origin, or anything. The most you get out of the twins is they had a father who saw the mom as a problem, took the twins, went soft in the head, so the twins killed the dad and.....thats it. When it came to the Seeds and Edens Gate, they had that and more. They had a beginning, the recruiting and brain washing process, walking the path, a clear purpose through the word of the father, their first church. Far Cry 5 did exceptionally well establishing the presence of the Cult, Joseph Seed and his siblings. The did the research on real world cults and it SHOWED. Yeah some were not fond of the story, sure it had some holes like where's the military during it all and they said they disabled radios and phone connections, it wasn't perfect but could see the effort made to make it all believable, In FC4, there was a great story with Ajay, Pagin Min, his dead mother and father, the affair and how you tied into it all, the character they claimed to know your parents and all the culture of Kyrat. When it comes to the twins and the highwaymen, I just don't see it. I don't get how they got to where they are, became so powerful with a huge presence across the country, they aren't unique and don't really seem different than any other gang in real life. There was no real introduction. it was just "hey this is the apocalypse, these are highwaymen, kill them and don't ask questions" I mean just go look at the Wiki for Highwaymen and then compare it to Project at Edens Gate, you can clearly see what had more content in terms of background and effort put into it but i guess thats why they had the cheaper price tag. I wish I didn't pre order anda wish I had got this on sale.

    Thanks For Listening
Far Cry is still my favorite series, and though I was a bit disappointed and caught off guard on New Dawn, I'm still hoping the minds behind the series see some of the response and feedback of others around the web and adjust accordingly. Again Most of this is just my opinion and I know not everyone will agree with me and thats okay. I just wanted the chance to speak out and say what I felt about the newest release. I know its kind of a wall of text, but if you managed to read till the end, thanks.

    Long Live Far Cry

I have played all FC games since FC1 '04 .Actually the Far cry series., Crysis, and Wolfinstien series are bout the Only Games other than random Racing and combat flight Sims I play.. I'm a PC gamer only and have a real life and career away from the computer, so not a lot of time for tons of games..The Far Cry series are my Favorite..

The added ability to use the GFH and recruit random ones from FC 5 I loved.. was hoping for the ability to have one animal and 2 people by a patch or the next title.. They went backwards there for ND..
I think aside from the way too many forced captures and the resistance points system..FC5 was the best FC to date..
New Dawn could have been also if it did not have the negatives you mention..
I fully agree with your views and I DID AS YOU DID POSTING HERE.. I also under this user name for years did not bother to ever join this forum.. no reason.. I did after playing New dawn after FC5 just to try and speak my views hoping some of the dev's might listen if enough of us did.

    Hi there guys,

Thank you very much for the constructive feedback, I quite enjoyed going through it.

We tried to put a bit of a different spin on Far Cry conventions with the new features we added to New Dawn.
But I appreciate that they aren't guaranteed to be to everybody's liking.

You can be sure that we are keeping a close eye on the community's feelings towards New Dawn - what worked, what didn't work, what was missing and everything else besides.
We can learn a lot from the community's feedback moving forward. And of course that includes the topics that you have touched upon in this thread.

    Cheers,
    CJ

    In my own opinion

Let me start by saying: really proud to say that game was made in Montreal! The Expedition dude with his cursing in french always makes me laugh.

From my perspective, and respectfully, first time I have ever played far cry was 1 year ago (i know i’ve been missing!!). But this may offer a fresh perspective.

I always play Farcry in coop with my cousin and we’ve been loving it since FC5. Was not really sure about ND at first but it turns out we love it even more. We don’t really care most about the storyline (eventhough its really amazing) we were more hooked up on FC5. But the posts « levels » are AMAZING! We just keep doing it! Although we would like an even more challenging level, like a 5 star ranking or something with mostly yellow dudes, that’d be even more amazing.

Generally, the fact that we can see a health bar is also really nice!

Aside from that, I share your views about the expeditions, more scenarios could be really great ans haven’t thought of that before! Now I feel like it’s a must.. maybe an extension pack?

In general, I think ND is really amazing and I am sad that we are almost finished with all the posts. We usually just slowly stop playing when there is nothing new or not enough challenge :/

    Cheers

For me the game was just cool, I'm just pissed at the fact that Rookie has a mask and lots of characters aren't deeply analized like I need more from this game, Ubi released it too quick. More missions, more story telling about Rookie, bigger map or even the same, more of The Father dialogs and honestly I would like to start the game from the bunker where I'm The Deputy not some kind of hero from California that crashes with a train, with an antoginized moment when The Father brainwashes me and I release my self from a bliss hallucination out of the bunker and find my friends after "the collapse" don't know why the game started like that but it would be cooler. More connected with the previous game.

I was surprised how I enjoy New dawn a lot more than I did Far Cry 5.

Gravelmead, many people will agree with you.....But have you ever asked yourself why? Must be a reason. And not only one. Something makes people enjoy this game more than a bigger Far Cry 5.

Just finished FarCry New Dawn. FarCry 5 was my first experience with the franchise.
I agree with the original poster of this thread and have little to add.

Wish this game was included with the season pass of FC5 those DLC's where not worth the price.
Other than that I overall enjoyed the game.

Hope they add NewGame+ someday for this game.

    1. Could go either way on endgame. I've never been one to want a game to last endlessly.

    2. The weapon tiers didn't bother me, as I always expect a game like this to progress in level of weapons and enemies. Plus if you don't like that system you aren't forced to use the most powerful weapons and skill upgrades. There are ways other than headshots to take out higher tier enemies. Some parts of their bodies are not armored.

    3. New Dawn is supposed to be themed like a survive the post apocalypse game. Therefore it is scaled down in companions you can take and battle scenarios. While some may enjoy the battles you described in FC5, it doesn't really fit the theme of ND.

    4. I agree they made good use of the map, but I'm glad they didn't turn key story missions into a repetitious thing. They went overboard with that in past FCs like 4, where you get a call after liberating an outpost that enemies were trying to retake it. That got annoying real fast. I also feel the fight pit and derby track were way underutilized and not nearly fleshed out well enough. FC4's arena was WAY better than the 1 mission fight pit, and I feel the simple circle derby track should have been a figure 8 with tunnel, with an added extension to double as a rallycross track with multiple events.

    5. I really didn't like the villains either. I also felt the forced actions, especially where you have to handcuff yourself or be handcuffed, were a throwback to the forced captures of FC5. There should have been a fight option there that would cause another home base attack, or better yet, a mission where several people are taken from home base and you have to rescue them.

New Dawn is simply one hell of a lot of fun to play. I hope the next FC touches on some of the same and gives you so much freedom to mess around.
