Classic snowflake lvl of writing. Dozends of dead agents AND yet it's one agent against the world. Everyone is the bad guy. I was hoping to see more grey areas and expected the Black Tusk as the actual "good guys" or atleast the good guys aswell just from a diffrent instance of the government. This story is a good example for bad/boring/linear writing.
The story itself is imo serviceable, if bland.
The real tragedy in the division 2 is imo the forgettable npc characters. Benitez, Rhodes and Kandel where really memorable and likeable imo. Faye Lau, while not on the same level as the others imo was ok too. The Division 2 absolutely dropped the ball in that regard.
Ortega is the only Division 2 character I remember by name, him and the "Drone Operator".
Ortega, the most memorable character in the game, and only because he´s got the most dialogue is as memorable as a person we know nothing about other than she´s female and she operates drones. That´s how bad it is.
The only thing story whise that intrigues me at this point is Aaron Keener vs The Black Tusk. They´re both ambitious, I don´t think they´re buddies and they gotta rub eachother the wrong way at some point. Plus Aaron Keener would be at least one well written character in DC. If they don´t mess his writing up that is.
Well done good sir. This also confirms what I tell people that there has always been planned Division 3 and this whole this at least a Trilogy Story Arc. When you look at Trilogys as well the middle one is always the weakest story since it never really introduces anybody major, and is just there to tie the beginning and end together.Originally Posted by orrthehunter Go to original post
This is probably my only major gripe with the game. While The Division was not known for it's groundbreaking story, the story was somewhat cohesive, had characters with unique personalities that made them memorable, and at least -hinted- at deeper themes through Paul Rhodes, Ricky Valassi, Larea Barrett, etc..--though I suspect someone took a hatchet to the story sometime during development to make sure the game was an uncomplicated good vs. evil theme.
In The Division 2, I somehow missed -major- plot points despite being a diligent phone/echo collector. When Black Tusk shows up, it seems almost random. There is barely any mention of this enormous paramilitary group that becomes the entire focus of the end game. There should be footage from completing missions that builds up to the invasion.
I found the primary characters to be mostly forgettable. The voice acting is fine, but they're just not given anything interesting to say. Kelso has potential to be interesting, but I think the game just vaguely hints at her underlying instability as a red herring and isn't going to follow up.
There are lines from The Division that are seared into my memory, like Captain Benitez saying "agent I thank you, my guys thank you, and the people of New York f'in thank you."
I felt like a damn hero when I heard that one.
Or feelingwhen Faye Lau says "Captain, we are the wolves."
Memorable, impactful lines delivered with a quality that you'd expect from a major network show.
Where are these moments in The Division 2?![]()
